OMG!!! ONE MILLION VIEWS??? I have been away for several months because I am expecting a baby boy in 3 weeks. I will make new videos as soon as I get some spare time. I have missed this little hobby on the side! Do you have any requests about videos you want to see in the future?
To be a good client make sure to do this: 1) Don't haggle 2) know what you want and don't keep changing your mind 3) Be on time or 10-15 minutes early to appointment 3) shower before tattoo appointment 4) don't bring a lot of people with you 5) don't micromanage your artist 6) listen to your artist aftercare instructions
aaaand, that is still too much of an effort for many commentators here.....well.....(agree.;)))..its plain and simple, people dont like order, thats it....stupidity is a trend)
Yeah me too... That's how it should be though! It's gonna be you forever, you have a right to be picky about it! You want it to look nice and be how you imagined it! A good tattoo artist might think it's s little annoying, but should definitely understand and respect that.
AnT wOorD I understand both sides. I think she means the “hyper-nit-picky” types. They interfere every 2 minuets with more “instructions” for the artist and tell them they’re doing it wrong etc. If it is wrong yeah speak up, but if you agreed and wanted the stencil the artist designed and then pick it apart what is the artist supposed to do? Change it mid-tattoo? Picky is what you SHOULD be, but be picky during the design and placement, after that don’t nitpick. Obviously if the artist is NOT doing your tattoo how you agreed then say something, but don’t do it during the tattoo that’s being done how you agreed for it to be
Totally agree with all of these except #10. It's something that is going to be on this person's body for the rest of their lives. If they get the stencil put on, and it looks different than they imagined or they don't like the placement and they want to tweak it, I don't see a problem with that. All I've ever done is made mine bigger, but if people want to make small changes to the original sketch to make it exactly what they want, they deserve to. Like you said, good tattoos aren't cheap. They should get what they want for all the money they're putting into the piece.
+Astarte Astaroth Have you ever gotten a custom piece? Where an artist sketches something up for you from your ideas? They usually show you it when you show up for your appointment. You may love or hate it, and want to change what they did. That's their job is to create art for you that you like. For a good artist you're paying hundreds to thousands of dollars for that piece, a little inconvenience to them to change the sketch shouldn't be an issue. Not everyone wants to just pick something off a flash sheet or copy something they found on the Internet.
it still isn't the tattoo's decision on where the tattoo is placed. Honestly I could care less if the tattooist has other clients. They aren't working on those clients right now. They're working on me. If I don't like the way its placed, yeah, I want it changed. Im not saying changing the stencil, im just saying change the placement. any GOOOD tattoo artist will say " we can change the placement as many times as you want until we get it too a good position you like since its going on your body for the rest of your life". Both of my tattoo artists have said that line to me. a GOOD tattooist wouldn't give a fuck, because they just want their customer happy.
Atomic Amy we’re not talking about that issue though. We’re talking about they put the stencil on your leg and you want it in the perfect spot, even if you have to move the stencil around a few times, and the tattooist being annoyed. Like get over it.
Atomic Amy it’s not a two way street. If the tattooist is going to get annoyed at me because I want the placement of my tattoo in the PERFECT spot when it’s going to be on my body for the rest of my life, then maybe they shouldn’t be a tattoo artist. Some of these points she makes are really fucking ignorant. She just sounds like a bitch. Some of them are understanding but some are just bs.
When I got my first tattoo I was so excited that I had to look at it and what the artist was doing the whole time while getting tattooed. It was fascinating and helped calm me down. I didn't realize it was disturbing the artist. She was pretty chill throughout the session.
I got a tattoo last night and I was thirsty so I asked my brother (who came with me to watch because he's going to get his first tattoo in a few months) to hand me my soda but the artist was doing a line so I told him to wait before I grabbed it. When he finished the line he said "thank you so much, you wouldn't believe how many people would just move while I'm in the middle of it." Just sit still people! Common curtesy!
Wow more like common sense. That's sad lol. And I bet if the tatt doesn't come out the way they'd like, they'll complain it's the artist not being professional or some bs.
Like others, I don’t agree with #10. However, if I wanted changes after a stencil that I agreed to is applied, I would pay for the artist’s extra time. I have a right to be happy with my tattoo, and the artist has a right to get paid for anything out of the scope of the normal tattooing process and quote, including multiple revisions. I don’t think it’s right to get upset with a client if they don’t like the look or placement of a potential tattoo once the stencil is applied. It’s their body, and their tattoo, and they shouldn’t feel pressured to say yes to something they are not confident about for fear of upsetting their artist.
I completely agree. I get it's an inconvenience to them but this is someone's body and a tattoo is permanent so if they want a change you try and make it
Damien Brafford - I don’t consider it a waste of the artist’s time if I am paying them for it. As I said, if I ask for revisions after the stencil is applied, I would absolutely pay for the time and effort it requires. Sometimes it is hard for people to visualize how a tattoo will look in the chosen location before the stencil is applied. I see nothing wrong with someone changing their mind, as long as the artist is compensated appropriately. The customer is not always right. But they are paying for a service, and it is the artist’s responsibility to do what they can to make sure the customer is happy (within reason, of course). If the tattoo artist is not amenable to changes in order to please the person paying for their service, then they should find a different line of work.
I don't understand when people complain that a tattoo artist won't tattoo someone elses work on you. Aww man you mean the professional said no to literal art theft? shocker
it depends.... a lot of people nowadays see themselfes as "artists" but are artisans. An artist puts his emotions, lifelessons, feelings and expressions into the piece. Thin kof Bob Ross, he is an artisan not an artist.
Luckma1 lmao Bob Ross is an artist not an artisan. An artisan is someone who crafts things with their hand such as jewelry, pottery etc. now if bob ross was making macaroni jewelry then I’d give it to ya lol
@@zachh298 depends how you look at it. his later pictures were mostly made as an instrument to teach and show people that its not that difficult to make something good looking. There is no other meaning behind these pictures besides looking good. old japanese tattoo masters will tell you they are artisans and not artists. They learned a craft and practice it.
There are two sides to this as with most things Like if you want pop culture, or a band logo, that's someone else's work If the art was paid and made for the client by someone, then the client wants someone else to tattoo it. But sure if it's a tattoo already on someone else, that's bad
While some of these points do make sense I don't understand why it's wrong for someone to want something they're going to keep on their body for the rest of their lives to be perfect? I've had my tattoo artist refusing to start tattooing me until I was completely sure where and how I want the tattoo to be, he even showed me a tattoo he had on the same place I wanted to get mine on to get an idea of how it's going to look according to the position of my arm etc. If you don't have patience, don't work with people.
that's how it supposed to be done, but as an artist there's protocol you don't just blatantly copy someone else's work try to switch it up a bit, make sure the client is extremely comfortable and happy with the design and decisions made
Because you should of come prepared... if that tattoo is so important than you would of done the research and you would of put in work just like us....
People get sooo offended whenever I post on Facebook the reminder that tattoo shops aren’t the place for kids. If you can pay for a tattoo, you can also pay for a baby sitter. Kids not sitting still in a tattoo shop is incredibly stressful and dangerous. Buuuuut some people still accuse me of ‘hating kids’ and they want to use the excuse “oh, my child is just curious’. Then make them watch ink master or some shit. Hahahaha.
Kids are actually banned in the shop I work in! Thank god haha each artist has their own room, and the max room capacity is *always* 3 - the artist, client, and client can bring *one* friend. And in the lobby you have to either be waiting for an appointment, or waiting to book an appointment. If you're not old enough to get work done, you're not allowed in the shop. No exceptions. You get the odd parent that thinks their kid is a friggin god, but other than that our clients are super appreciative.
I love kids and feel like there are a lot of places they're unfairly banned from but a tattoo shop is not a safe place for kids. Parents aren't able watch their little ones very well while sitting still for the artist and they can get into things (like needles and ink) then you end up having to make a trip to the doctors.
April Mckenzy It’s still stressful to the artist tattooing you. Sitting quietly or not, the artist will still be uncomfortable and constantly looking over at them to make sure they’re not going to get into anything or touch anything they shouldn’t be. It’s not recommended to have a kid sitting in an operating room for all the same reasons it’s not recommended for them to be in a tattoo shop.
If I had any tattoos I would legit want her to do mine. She is honest and straightforward. I don’t understand why so many Grown people have such a problem with her point of views. SHE’s not going to people they’re COMING TO HER!!!
we do the tattoo our way? I am an artist and unless I am doing something for myself I do as the customer asks. All my tattoos were what I wanted and paid for. If you wanna be greative paint your walls..when I pay for service I expect what I paid for
If you’re referring to #4, as an artist you would copy someone else’s work if that’s what the customer wanted? That could involve copyright issues and what Linda said made perfect sense. A tattoo artist with integrity wouldn’t straight up plagiarize someone else’s work. They could do the design but just tweak it a bit in their own style. And it’s not like they would change anything without informing the customer first.
I highly doubt that when a client shows up with a picture they want to be tattooed, the artist does through google search to make sure it is not stolen from anyone. I designed my own tattoo. I don't think they searched "all existing tattoos" to make sure I didn't just steal someone elses. Damn i would be offended if designed my own tattoo and worked hard on it and the artist just changes it...wtf. I searched for the artist that would be compatible with my artist style -that's normal. But don't freaking change something I worked hard on.
Olya A What? I meant if someone brings in a picture of someone else’s tattoo... that’s on someone’s body and is clearly another artists design. Not if they just pull out some random picture
I love what you said about being an artist and doing your own style and how much you pay for it by that artist. My first tattoo I got was for my PTSD/sexually assault survivor tattoo and I walked into a shop that I found after researching and told him what I wanted but I wanted him to surprise me and that I don't care about price since it's meaningful to me. When I got to my appointment he showed me the design and I started crying because it was better than I could've imagined and he gave me a discount since I told him price didn't matter this was my final step on overcoming my struggles. He was amazing and the tattoo is better than I could've ever thought since I told him the basic idea of what I wanted and he made it mine and perfect.
Luna Aiko I wish I could show you a picture of it but oh well. I did the teal ribbon but instead of the ribbon looking like fabric since I didn't want that look he ended up doing a broken ribbon that looks painted. I also had lettering done saying I could've ended the pain; I chose to stay... He did so much better than I could've imagined and I let him have full creative control and he did better than I could've imagined. And it's absolutely perfect. I'll try to put the tattoo as my RUclips picture so you can see.
I lost my children's father in 2012. He was murdered in front of me. Since then I have PTSD and anxiety. Music is my only escape. I chose "stronger than I was" one of my favorite songs, because I am now, and because I look down and see it on my arm all day long. I have three kids who need me to stay strong for them.
I've had depression for most of my life and I know how hard it can get, so I just wanted to let you know that I'm happy you decided to keep on going :)
Art is copying stuff... with a twist sometimes I guess. Depends on whether it's realism, impressionism, etc etc, or your own twist. I mean I guess abstract isn't copying... The point is, most tattoo shops don't have great artists... So if I bring in a design, whether it be my own or one I found, I would expect it to be done. With a stencil especially, there shouldn't be any complaining.
Sorry but Number 10 is part of your job, deal with it. You're providing a service, a service that is going to include permanently marking somebody's skin. I've got a tattoo that I wasn't happy with because I was too afraid to speak up about it. Now, if something isn't to my liking then I'll want it changed until it is and if you don't like that, I'll happily take my money elsewhere.
Yes, totally! She is being so hypocritical about it too. 10) Says how it's annoying when people keep changing their mind and wanting another stencil. 15)''It's gonna stay on your body for the rest of your life'' So she does not like it when people decide on something that is going to be on their body forever, but is actually aware of that fact. Best artist of the year, honestly. I make digital art commissions and i am more than happy to hear people change something rather than have them be quiet and not secretly not like it.
Gerillia San having the stencil done is like you completing the linework and/or basic colouring and then the person commissioning you telling you to change the pose. Its not in the design process, its right before it is about to be inked.
trying_digital_art Yes exactly, it is lineart only and can be changed easily. Thats why wips are needed to be shown. If any major changes were needed, charge more money for your work, thats only normal. I just do not see the point in getting upset about it.
Gerillia San now imagine doing that ten times over. The design is literally on the persons skin, just bear in mind that she means *multiple* times, not once or twice...
To help with that, let your clients know beforehand that major changes, especially re-doing the stencil will cost them extra. That would be a fair compromise.
i can't imagine how frustrating it might be but #10 is kind of a reach because although you are the artist you never know what idea the person getting the tattoo has in their head, maybe its very significant and means a lot to them and they're going to have it on their body for the REST of their lives so can't say i agree with #10
You'll remember in the example she gave the client went back to the first design, because the artist knows best. Either do your research and trust your artist. You should care about your tattoos, of course. But come on. Being a brat about it doesn't make you discerning.
Would you get irritated when someone asks you to change the design 40+ times? "Oh i totally want that! oh wait nvm i changed my mind.. i want this instead! oh wait.. can you change that?" especially when they have another appointment at a specific time. its like are you going to commit or not?
Poopy Peepod I don't think thats not what they were saying. Its just people who are looking over as t there arm. Even then its a big thing, you are doing something that is extrwmely hard to remove.
Madeline TheFab well I'm not a tattoo artist but I do digital and traditional work and you meet people like this. "Hey i want a dragon breathing ice flying over a forest." Hey can you change that to be fire breathing dragon?" And they do it after you've already started ad they breathe over your shoulder. I'm referring to her #10
Poopy Peepod I get that but I feel like when someones paying you 1,000+ you can suck it up. Usually they have times to meet before hand as well that cost too.
Definitely don't agree with 17. Some of us have allergies/sensitivities to certain ingredients and can't use the specific cream every damn tattoo artist seems to want us to use. Also people with generally sensitive skin, they'll know what will be okay for their skin and what won't. If I wouldn't put it on my normal skin, why would I put it on a fresh wound?
But than you could say it. LIke: I've got this allergy - My skin is to sensitive or you could ask the artist to try it out on your normal, dry skin. When your skin is itching after this or something else it would be worse with the tattoo... When everything is fine you could try out the cream.....
Tell the artist then. Don't assume you know everything, just because the artist doesn't know what's going on with your skin, they're not in the wrong. If you're dumb enough to put cream on the tattoo without checking to see if your skin is allergic or sensitive, don't be mad when it doesn't heal right.
@@alize0623 I've used the products recommended by a tattoo artist and it got infected. Did everything I was supposed to. I switched back to the one I used before and it healed right up. Don't be so high and mighty.
I mean after I got a tattoo my artist told me to use a specific cream on it, but few days after I got like a minor allergy since I'm generally allergic to one of the ingredients. The tattoo was fine, I'm also fine, my skin was just more scratchy than usual but everything was okay. But yeah, if you have skin problems, please tell your artist and they may suggest another product that may work better. Please talk it out.
My worst client was a lady getting a tiny purple zodiac symbol on her wrist. It took less than ten minutes after the initial set up but she still managed to piss me off more than anyone else I can recall. She wouldn't stop moving. She wouldn't shut up. Her spouse kept leaning in over her shoulder so they could make out (Gross!). She tried to put her cell phone down on my workstation twice. She snarked that she had never worked a tattooist so high strung or bossy before. When it was over, she spent several minutes looking at it and then said "It's perfect" in a disappointed voice. I think she was trying to find something to complain about but couldn't. The whole encounter was absurd and I still wonder if they were fucking with me on purpose.
jesus Christ if she has any idea how disgusting her phone is she wouldn't have it anywhere near your equipment, it's like she's begging for an infection, or a crooked line with the moving and sucking face. please, for shits and giggles, if you can provide a hint to the zodiac sign I'd be forever in your debt edit:typo
also "it's perfect" in a disappointed voice, she could have been looking for any imperfection that might get her that tattoo for free :/ which is so disgusting I hope it itched badly the whole time it was healing
You usually visit certain artists bc you like their style and you want their work on you. It's also kinda disrespectful to steal someone's tattoo (if it's not something generic like say a bumblebee or something). It's like taking a photo the Mona Lisa to a painter and requesting a copy bc you don't wanna buy the real deal?
@@nitroxler So what about people who get star wars, anime, Mona Lisa, and other works of art. Explain that situation! It's basically "Stolen art" If I get a badass wolf tattoo does that mean me and my artist now own it? Love that logic we are now Monopolizing art.
Jesus samurai if you get a badass wolf tattoo that YOUR tattoo artist created for you, why would you want your tattoo artist or other tattoo artists to tattoo YOUR wolf on another person exactly how it is on you?
@@jesussamurai8433 as artist, I would rather make something for someone personally over giving them something that another person has on their body already. Do you really want a matching tattoo with a stranger? I think the average person would want something more personal to them rather than a carbon copy.
Another great 👍video 📹Getting my first tattoo this week I'm 59 years old. Glad I have been watching 👀☺your videos. Very interesting and informative. Thankyou.
tattoos aren’t a haircut you act like you want to get it over with and that it’s not a big deal i don’t blame you but the customer has the right to be happy with their tattoo and you should take into consideration on how they feel about the design and how much effort is being put into their work that will be on their body forever so don’t freak out if they don’t like the stencil
Imagine doing a work of art and spending so much time and materials on it just to get told it isn't right.....a simple change in a design can take as little as 30 minutes or as long as a few hours. My wife and I tattoo and pierce professionally and one of our biggest pet peeves is when this happens. We can spend hours on a stencil just to have one small detail changed. Its annoying and tedious after a while.
Well, after this, I'm lowkey scared to get a tattoo. Is that really what tatoo artist think? I get you are an artist but I'm the canvas. I'm the one having that tattoo for the rest of my life.
When you find a good artist he would talk to you first, how you want it, what he want from his clients and so on. You could ask every question you have and only when you sure, after this date, than you get the tattoo. This is one of the signs of a good artist. That he is honest with you.
@@undeadsphinxx they arent eveb taking it harsh, they're just worried that all tattoo artists think like that. They are worried that all tattoo artists have these peeves, and that by speaking, breathing, moving, or looking around your tattoo artist will suddenly hate you,, -which is a terrifying thought because- -they're putting something on your body permanently-
Nah man, artist are fucking weirdos in general thats coming from a person who took visual arts and wants to be an tattooist. This lady gives off weird vibes, if I was you're tattoo artist I'd def not act like that cause that's just embarrassing and quite frankly the way how she's acting is rude. Tattoo artist are like every single other person you'll meet ones that fuel your fire and then there's the really weird ones that just douse your flame. Don't worry I wouldn't want to get a tattoo from her either like SKRRT. She reminds me of the people who can't take criticism, a good artist will say "I don't consider myself an artist, I'm still learning" pick your artist by loving their work don't just pick artists that call themselves professionals they may have years but it doesn't mean they're good. I hope you find your dream artist and I hope you get your dream tattoos.
The only thing that bothered me was the not talking one. Like, I get not wanting more than one friend there, and of corse if it's distracting I understand, but the best tattoo experience I've had was when the artist not only didn't mind me talking with the person I brought, but joined in the conversation. Even the other artist that was there came and talked. The tattoo was in a really painful spot and that made it so much easier to handle.
No One I understand that, of corse every client and every artist is different and have different needs. I just meant in the context of the video, she said that talking is something that all (or most) tattoo artists dislike, and I don't think that's a good thing to perpetuate because unlike some of the other things on her list, talking can really help the client be comfortable, and that should be a priority for the artist.
My artist is amazing and hilarious! Last year on my birthday, I was going to Murphy, NC to see a friend and visit the casino there. I wanted a tattoo for my birthday, so I looked on the internet to see if there were any in or near Murphy. There were two or three shops and I contacted them about general prices (sit-down fee, etc.) and was answered by both. I sent a few photos of some ideas that I had and only one contacted me back. I was given a reasonable estimate, told them when I'd be coming to Murphy, that I was bringing friends who may or may not also want to get some ink done, and everything was Gucci. On the day we were to arrive, I get a Facebook message from the shop telling me everything was ready for our arrival, what time were we expecting to be there, and they even told me to travel safely (we were driving through the mountains of Georgia) which was so sweet and thoughtful. At the shop, I found out that they had recently opened, so I was happy to help a new business. The guy, Benny, was hilarious and constantly cracking jokes. His wife was pregnant and so sweet. They worked together, she setting up appointments and him tattooing. We watched Star Wars Rogue One as we waiting on the stencil (I had a quote and wasn't sure what font and there was the placement of the tattoo itself. He wanted to make sure everything looked good where it was gonna be placed). While i was getting ink done, my friends were on the other side of the wall of his area watching. One of my friends (who always makes a point to make me laugh during times i'm not supposed to...like when i was having my Monroe pierced...damn her Cher impressions...) was making me laugh and I knew my body was shaking and apologized. He said it was no problem and kept going. He was a talker anyway and we all just sat there having a conversation as he's doing my ink. Everybody would watch and comment on how good it looked and how the colors were nice or how the font was pretty...he didn't mind it one bit and tbh I think he would have been weirded out if we had been quiet the whole time.... By the way, if you're ever near Murphy, NC or just wanna go, Ink Nerds is the best...ask for Benny :)
clara hasbrook Its fine as long as the client doesn't get too relaxed and forget where they are. If people get too relaxed they start moving too much. One friend is fine, as long as that friend doesn't become a distraction or make the artist job harder. That's all she is saying.
People are different, and tattoo artists are people. Some like to talk, some don't. Some need quiet to consentrate to their work, some don't. So just find a tattoo artist that suits you. My tattoo artist don't talk. Only things he says during tattooing is when he wants me to change position. So I have a book to read while being tattooed :) And I love his work :)
Same! When I got my last tattoo there was a few times where my friend made me laugh and I tried my hardest to stay still, but I thought for sure I was moving too much. But then my artist gave me a bit of a price cut because he said I was sitting so still, even while we were talking, that it made it a pleasant tattooing experience! I was so surprised haha
Once my mother unannounced just showed up with friends at my appointment. I’ve never been so embarrassed. I didn’t even tell her I was getting the tattoo done, someone else did. We live in a small town so there were only 2 shops at the time. I was 22 at the time, too.
Dmitriy no just be a normal person. Go get tatted, know wtf you want on your body, let the artist do their thing and focus, don’t move or try not to as much. That’s it and if they do a good job tip them! That’s what I do.
Estée Zeller you shouldn't have to call out an artists mistakes. Sure everyone makes mistakes, maybe a line isn't as clean as it could have been but an artist is going to know what they're doing
IF I'TS A SPOT THEY HAVEN'T GOTTEN TO YET, THEY MOST LIKELY WILL AND ARE WAITING FOR A PARTICULAR REASON (I.E NOT TRYING TO SMUDGE THE STENCIL, NOT TRYING TO MUDDY THE INK COLOR OR IT'S A HIGHLIGHT OR LOWLIGHT. I ALWAYS ASK MT CLIENTS TO LOOK AT THE ART ON PAPER AND THEN THE STENCIL ON THEIR SKIN AND THEN THE FINISHED TATTOO AT THE END ON BIG TATTOOS I USUALLY TELL THEM TO CHECK OUT THE PROGRESS HALFWAY THROUGH OR SO IN CASE THEY HAVE ANY THOUGHTS... AND THEY ALMOST NEVER DO!!! IF THE TATTOO ARTIST IS NOT A BETTER ARTIST THAN YOU ARE THAN YOU SHOULDN'T BE GETTING TATTOOED BY THEM. A REAL TATTOO ARTIST DOES ARTWORK EVERY DAY SO THERE IS NO WAY A NON ARTIST SHOULD BE GIVING THEM ART TIPS. THAT'S LIKE NOT KNOWING HOW TO WORK ON CARS AT ALL AND WATCHING YOUR MECHANIC AND TRYING TO GIVE THEM ADVICE... IT'S JUST STRAIGHT UP SILLY!!! :/
nope, in a lot of cases the artist is not actually that proficient or a master level, so they won't be anywhere near perfect knowledge wise. They are relatively better compared to the customer, but that would also depend on who the client is. I don't agree that you should never have to call out mistakes, because the artist could be open to it and grateful. THE TATTOO IS ON YOUR SKIN, YOU SHOULD COMMUNICATE IF YOU FEEL THE NEED TO.
I mean, you could ask an artist politely "hey could you go over that a bit straighter" or "could you please fix that up a little bit" however dont be a know it all like, "a good artist would do it like this" or "could you make your lines any straighter!?" I think it's all about your wording and being polite. ask questions because it makes you seem curious, meanwhile stating "facts" makes you seem know-it-all
Oh man, all of the things I've wanted to say to my clients... I've been tattooing for twelve years now, in a shop and also solo, and I can totally relate to most of these. I'm glad someone was honest enough to put it out there so that maybe people will keep things in mind the next time they go to get a tattoo. Having said that, I've also gotten tattoos from several different artists, so I've been on both sides and can understand how the client, as well as the artist, can do things that would come off as annoying. When I was getting my back piece done, my artist was the one who wanted to have a bunch of loud friends hanging around and take a twenty-minute smoke break every half hour while I just wanted to zone out to some music and get the thing finished, so the boat can definitely rock both ways on this one. I think the best advice to both the client and the artist is just to be kind and considerate to the other person, because really, there's a level of discomfort for each of you.
I hate people on their phone I hate people who bring friends I hate people who bring parents I hate people who know what they want I hate people that laugh I hate parents who advice I hate this, I hate that, all I want is to get paid and not deal with people as an "artist"
Orlando Pergamo - talking to people can be distracting yourself from the tattoo if it's in a painful spot or you just have a low pain tolerance. I have a low pain tolerance myself and I want someone there to help me because I always go too big. I haven't gotten a tattoo yet but I plan to soon and if my tattoo artist is like her I don't want her near my with a sharp object that she could easily hurt me with or fuck up the art (that last comment isn't based on her character I just have bad trust issues)
People on their phone move, and aren't paying attention to the artist, especially when the artist is trying to talk to them. People who bring too many friends can fill up a small shop, bump into other artists, make it harder for the artist to move around. And be VERY distracting. Parents try to make the kids do things the kid doesn't want, or talk them out of something creative and orginal for something more common. There is a difference between knowing what you want and micromanaging. If you did your reaearch, and choose a good artist you need to trust them to do the job you hired them for. You can't tell them how to do their job. Again, laughter moves the whole body. Do you want a clean tattoo, or to joke around and hang out? All she wants it people to think and be respectful. That's not asking a lot. And if you can't do those basic things, or you think asking for them is a big deal, either you're a spoiled brat, or a person who shouldn't get tattoos because they can't understand basic concepts like a moving person makes a wobbly line.
Wolf Sleigher what she didn’t explain is that besides it being disrespectful to the other artist there can be legal issues with inking someone else’s work.
then you have no clue who this artist is and believe me most artist deal with people like this and have the same opinions about clients who cant behave
SANTINO Chad people at every job ever judge customers. She made valid points on things that would cause trouble for a tattoo artist. She needs to concentrate while working just like everybody else at their job.
Shivarra you’re too young to understand what it’s like working a 9-5 job then. Multiple unpleasant customer experiences will eventually make you frustrated. There are rules that customers need to obey while in a tattoo shop so what she is saying isn’t unreasonable.
The customer chose the artist. After that it's up to the artist to do their best work, and that's not gonna happen when a customer tells them how to do their job... I mean, you're not gonna go in and tell your heart surgeon what sutures they should tie. If you pick an artist that you love, you're not gonna need to nit pick anyway. And if no one specializes in the kind of tattoo you want, it's probably a shit idea...
The customer generally doesn't know what makes a good tattoo. It's a unique medium, and the placement and design are things that need to be considered from the artists perspective. The artist's job is to do a good tattoo that will age well. Micromanaging a tattoo will make for a worse tattoo. The fact that it's on the body for life is exactly why you should listen to your artist.
As a tattoo artist of almost 20 years I've learned fun ways to deal w difficult clients but the main thing that gets me is "I don't know" & "what do you think?" on endless repeat. My favorite line I use is "if you don't know, I have no idea where to start" It also doesn't matter what I think of your choice. My job is to do awesome tattoos and advise on what not to do - not make YOUR life decisions.
Tracey Delfs yeah but as the expert they are asking for your input because they trust you n for u to be a jerk about it would make me question why am I even coming to u then and it make me want to leave n let someone else do or finish the job.
Yeah I got a quote on my body and was asked is that all and I said yeah I'm good. I asked his input and he wanted to add a scroll like texture and it fit. It looks so much better and I just told him do what you feel is best I just wanted the quote everything else was up to the artist.
Dude I have a really good solution for your problem all you have to do is tell them make sure you they know what they want before they get in. Problem solved it’s called communication
So relieved I don't do any of these things!! I only have 5 tattoos and I go to the same artist, she is absolutely amazing and I always trust her judgment. 🌹
Same here xD although I gave lost some faith in her last time she did a touch up of my tattoo, it seemed like she was trying to see how fast she could do it rather than taking her time
Not sure why you are getting so much hate on this video. I don't think any of these things are unrealistic to ask for in clients. You're an artist, you trained and learned for a long time to be good at what you do and you have a certain way of doing things. Not all artists will agree but this is your experience and I think that's totally fine. Every artist will have different peeves about what they hate and I feel that many people don't understand unless the've done it themselves. This is your opinion and people don't have to agree with it. To be completely honest, i really enjoyed this video and I think you're hilarious. So, keep doing you and ignore all the people shitting on what you're saying. *shrugs*
I think it's really amusing that the person that posted it liked it. I would never buy a tattoo from her. She has an attitude like she's better than everyone because she doodles permanently on people for a living. She's part of the service industry and needs to suck it up.
@@angussneef if you call tattooing "permanent doodling" then you probably shouldn't be getting tattooes. if an artists realistic standards offend you, that's a you problem.
@@angussneef for sure. She seems like a headache. I would walk right out if she started acting like this with me. I'm paying her. She should act accordingly.
@@angussneef okay for one being in the service industry people still deserve respect and when your trusting somebody to put something on your body for the rest of your life she does not have a bad attitude shes being blount so u need to suck it all up and slurp it all up Karen
As a music producer and sound engineer I can relate and understand your frustrations, specially when clients don't express very well what they want, and make you back track a lot of the work done, but at the same time I wanna smack you across the face. If you're making a business out of this then you gotta leave your artistic ego out of the picture. I make backing tracks for a living that are later used for Karaokes of pop music, so my job is to copy other peoples songs to the highest of details, to the point of almost not noticing mine form the original. Basically I'm a specialist at being a "Copy Machine". That's ok because THEY PAY ME TO DO THAT! I don't even like pop music, I never listen to it outside of the job, I like metal and heavy music. So If I feel like I want to express my own art somewhere and make my own original music I do that with my band, where no one pays us and we just do it for the love of music. There's a big difference between a client and a friend who's whiling to let you use their body as your canvas where you can express yourself artistically. Edit: sorry if it comes off as rude, if anything I only wanna help you separate the two in your mind, I know it helps me.
Did u notice at 542 to about 554 there’s a whispering or like something being dubbed over forwarding ..I am trying to explain it as best as I can ..I thought since u make and🎼🎧🎤🎼🎵🎶 create and also make copies u have an ear to 👂🏼hear sounds under sound under sound or over sound over another ..if that makes 🤔..I had head phones on while watching so I could hear it really well..beats head phones lol... BTW advice was good not harsh at all..Buisness is Buisness ...
sorry if 'I wanna smack you across the face' comes off as rude? You need to separate YOUR ego from your supposed desire to help someone else. Really doesn't sound like it
You seem really uptight. I wouldn't want to go to you to get my tattoo done. I understand a lot of these, but like I would just feel like I'm being judged the whole time. Like, the whole point of doing a stencil is that you can check the placement and redo it if it's not what you want. That's going to be on your body forever.
This is literally her top 20 worst. If you didnt want to listen to her explain the things she dislikes most about clients, maybe dont click on a video that says "my top 20 worst clients" hm? I think everything she's said makes sense, but that's probably because I've had many tattoos done my many artists and I have friends that are artists so I understand the process and how certain things can be frustrating.
I agree with all of these except the "we don't copy artists" if you are a fandom artist, then you copy. I have pokemon tattoos and mario tattoos. you better believe the artist copied an image.I also dont agree with the stencil one. you dont get to decide if the stencil looks good. the person getting the tattoo does.
Tasmin Henson whats wrong with that? Even if something was “original” there is probably someone out there that has the same exact tattoo. I understand wanting to keep things original because I am an artist myself, but, it’s not like people are gonna stop wanting an exact replica of something.
Naysia I agree, out there people are going to steal tattoos forever, doesn't make it right. An artist spends their time making a custom piece for my body then it should be on MY body, the only tattoo I have that someone else has is a matching tattoo~ if you can't see how stealing tattoos is wrong please go watch some videos on the subject~
Tasmin Henson I literally said I understand because I’m an artist myself. I also have tattoos too. I know how this goes. All I’m saying is that it’s hard to avoid something not being copied.
I don't get how some of these are complaint worthy? " One friend maybe". I always bring a friend. I need a hand to hold. And number 10? Whats wrong with num 10? If im paying over $200 for a tattoo yeah, Im gonna make sure its in the right spot. Also whats wrong with people using their own tattoo recovery shit? My tattoo artist recommended a cream for me and I used it and it irritated my skin so I use my own cream ( Mind you my tattoos have healed perfectly so.)
also she mentioned how no " good tattoo artist copies another work". My two tattoos were traced from another tattoo. I'm not afraid to admit it, However they did the shading different so it doesn't look the exact same. Both tattoo artists were amazing, great artists in my area.
Zoiyee cx you missed out *why* she only thinks you should bring one friend. Obviously when there’s more than one they’re gonna be chatting and it’s distracting! This tattoo is going to be on the person *forever* might as well get it right. Some of the rest are petty but she has pretty good reason to only want one other person
I have a salon and all of these types of clients are completely relatable.... our guests are the reason for either really great days or awful days that make me question my life lol
Arianna P same here. But it is fun to learn and then use various techniques to make it easier on myself as well as the guest in my chair :) I’ve actually asked parents to go ahead and help themselves to some coffee or a magazine and have a seat in the waiting area. Some kids behave way better if their parent isn’t nearby.
si stayed still for my first butterfly tattoo and I went alone and someone walked by asked how I was doing and the artist said she's tough... I felt so happy with my self and it healed wonderfully!
My first butterfly tattoo at 18 was from an apprentice that didn’t shut up, he went too far in my skin and left scarring. Still don’t regret it 11 years later. I have another tattoo on my foot and on my rib, never made a noise or complained about anything. Haven’t since I was a child, even as a baby my parents said I never cried with needles or anything.
As a professional tattoo artist of 10 years now I can totally relate to all of these. If your not a tattoo artist and have to deal with any of these scenarios on a daily/ weekly basis you won't understand the frustration some people put us through. so many of these annoyances could be avoided if the ones described used a little common sense.
#2 is funny because one time... I was a getting a tattoo done. And yes, I looked too. I told my tattoo artist to not tattoo a spot, cuz I wanted something there. And he thanked me, he thanked me for correcting him. And we have a beatufiul tattoo! so sometimes, you gotta let your client speak up!
I’m sorry but the fact the piece is going to be on my skin forever is more important then you’re need to be original or feel validated. Maybe they’re looking at the tattoo a lot because it’s a fascinating process and unusual thing to do. Maybe they want to bring a friend to calm their nerves and share a big experience with someone they care about. The thing about them tanning or smelling though I get you that must be so irritating.
the fact is that tattoos been around longer than you where here , the fact is that artists have pride in what they do . the fact that a artist spent years and years and years perfecting the style they doing has nothing to do with you , you are the one walking to a shop , you are the one who likes what you see from the artist thats why you are there . so no it has nothing to do with you other than you choose a artist you like and you listen to that artist , that how you get the best work done .
Amelia Fortune if you need a stamp machine just walk into any corner run down tattoo shop and get your unoriginal printed picture etched into your body forever.
jesco white It has EVERYTHING to do with the costumer. If an artist can't accept my way then I am going to an artist that does because I am the one that has to live with it. I agree that you go to them for a specific style but if someone wants a simple piece that is easily doable and they want to get it done there because of whatever reason, they should be able to do so without feeling guilty. Respect the artist. But the artist has to respect you too.
ofcourse there are plenty of options . but people who wants to go to a well reknown shop or artist should know that you dont come in there with your phone and start showing pictures of other peoples tattoos and so on , that maybe works in a shop that just do whatever tattoos that was my point . but artists that have a well known reputation and have spent years n years to perfect what they do YOU should know what your looking at when looking at the portfolio they have . and like i said hehe no they dont have to do anything if its not there style or if they feel you showing up something they cant be proud of doing , thats where `´ its not about you `´ come to play , a artist can say no , but hey there are many many shops and artists out there but if you want great work you should listen to the artist.
Yea... i have more tats than i can count and have never done most if these... i smoke and will only go out for one when the artist needs a brake... so no not all customers.
Alot of you seem to get number 10 wrong. It's not about stencil placement that doesn't satisfy the customer. It's about people that change their minds about the template and want to change small things, so you have to go and make another one. Not being 100 % sure about what you're getting tattooed on you and wanting to change it when it's kinda too late is pretty annoying, yes. Btw, number 15 is so trueeee
*It's about people that change their minds about the template AFTER the stencil is put on the skin, and want to change small things, so you have to go and make another one. - what i wanted to say :)
2Pac71x96x14 it doesn’t matter, if you’re paying for something permanent it needs to be done right the first time. So id rather spend 10 mins bucks for my tattoo to stenciled on correctly or send a few weeks perfecting my tattoo design than spend forever with a tattoo i hate and spend hundreds to thousands of dollars to get it removed or covered up.
Demetry Blair "or spend a few weeks perfecting the design" which is exactly the opposite of what a person who would be a number 10 client would do. A 10 would just walk in, say "I want this" and once the stencil is done go "You know what, I think I want this instead" which, in the long run, would indeed be annoying as all hell, especially if it happened over and over again with the same client. If you are not 100% certain what you want tattooed on your skin, maybe you shouldn't jump into getting one just for the fun of it.
Yes that's the point. When the template is done and the client is satisfied with it, the tattooer THEN will make the stencil (because the client obviously agreed). And after some time when the stencil is on the skin and you want to change small things.. well, congratulations. You belong to the annoying people categorized in number 10. :D
80% of tattoers that I have met are exactly like this woman: full of themselves and dreaming that their diploma from the Art Institute will some day translate into a real painting gallery
Big Nasty Haha-me too, i was thinking about getting one but i don't want to get a tatoo by someone who i just pissed of by taking to long to decide on the design!
Not all are like this, I'm sure you can find one that's extremely nice like how I did. She was this tiny goth girl covered in tattoos and was the most relaxed person I've ever met. Most of the artists I've met when going with friends and trying to find the right place for me were super nice and just liked hearing you out and doing what you wanted. My only word of advice is to get a tattoo in a place you know you can cover. Don't get in somewhere that can discourage you from getting a job, maybe get one on your ankle or anywhere that gets covered by clothes without much effort.
I honestly adore tattoo artists, like you have the agility to keep a steady hand and put something permanent on someone, i dont know how but i adore it
If you have a cancelation why would you be so specific with the style of tattoo you’re willing to do? That’s pretty weird. The majority of people don’t want a portrait, why lose customers because that’s all you’re willing to do? Never heard a tattoo artist say anything like that
My artist says things like that all the time. Offers last minute booking to replace cancellations. He offers these spots at a reduced price, sometimes he will request, in exchange for the reduced price, for someone that wants a specific style that he is keen to work on.
im guessing because its probably something that she has already designed and drawn up....so shes not doing a customer tattoo, it will just be what she already has drawn up.
Hm I'd guess certain tattoos like portraits require different inks than other types of tattoos so since she already prepared those inks and needles maybe that's why?
As an artist myself (photographer/graphic designer) I HIGHLY respect everything you said about concentration and being alone to work in peace. And everything else you mentioned. My god did that resonate with me deeply. I’m planning on getting my first tat I just wish it was with you lol! Your tats on you are gorgeous AF! 💖 Thank you for your tips they surely will be easy for me to do since I’m a very introvert quiet person who zones out when getting pedicures or manicures. I rather them do the talking while I stay still and quiet lol. Happy to have found your channel! 🙏🏼
I'm relieved that I'm not super guilty of all of this. I try so hard not to be annoying to tattoo artists because they do such valid work. I really liked watching this so I can try harder to not be as irritating. So many things though hopefully I don't bother my artist. Cus I really appreciate his custom designs. Also --I really like your content :)
Most of the guess work is done during the consultation. By the time you get to your appointment you should have your design and location pretty well locked down. It's okay to straighten a stencil or blow it up/ shrink it a bit but going from arm to leg means a whole seperate drawing. We may pay to get inked but the artist isn't compensated for all their design time.
Like you say it is totally fine, but some clients change constantly and that’s not ok,i think that’s what she means, and we don’t know how many hours of work she put in the picture!!!!
The best tattoos I've had are the ones where I had a general idea, but allowed the artist to put their unique spin on it. That's the best way to allow true art to take form, at least in my opinion.
Your right I think good tattoo artists are amazing artist but u have to realise in people's heads it will be on their body for life so I think it's just part of the job x
SHES TALKING ABOUT CHANGING THE ARTWORK WHEN YOU ALREADY AGREED THAT IT LOOKS FINE AND SHE MAKES THE STENCIL AND EVERYTHING... SHE'S NOT TALKING ABOUT PLACEMENT!!! LISTEN TO WHAT SHE SAID CLOSER AND IT WILL MAKE SENSE TO YOU :) ... SHES JUST SAYING PLEASE DON'T CHANGE YOUR MIND AFTER SHE IS SET UP AND HAS THE STENCIL READY TO GO... WHEN SHE ASKS IF YOU LIKE THE ART AND THE SIZE THAT IS WHEN YOU WOULD HAVE SOME CHANGES DONE TO IT , IF NEEDED.
Wow, an old-wised Navy is Saying. Never piss off the Cook, and that is preparing your food. Never Piss off the doctor getting ready to give you an injection. Never Piss off the tattoo artist trying to give you the best tattoo ever.
I was for sure someone’s worst tattoo customer . I was 19, it was my 3rd tattoo, totally thought I knew everything. I rushed the artist, talked with my hands(tattoo is on my left arm),complained about the price, whined because I didn’t want to come back, had a panic attack and literally ran out of the shop. My entire body cringes whenever I think about it. Ya live and ya learn... I guess
Agree with all of these except number 10. This exact attitude is why I'd be afraid to say anything to the tattooist if I saw something I'd want to change.
Maby she didn't add that in. Watch Huff paranormal, see how he shows how spirits talk through devices. I sound crazy now, but if you watch, it's very convincing and interesting. ;-)
@@lapis3834 ...or you could just simply isolate the wave and amplify it to hear exactly what it is. Its nearly audible. Just remove hers and clean up the other. Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence.
N 15# omg!!! i m a cake artist !!! i hate when people just bring me 30/40 pics of cakes they dont like and they bring me lists of things they dont want and even every pics of my cakes I show them, every idea i say is a "no i dont like it". For me is more usuful when people bring me pics of cakes they like or details they like so i can compose a personalize cake for theyr taste but if you show what you dont like is useless and if you dont like anything how can i make something you gonna love?? So if i find client like this i refuse the order becouse some people never be happy with the result. Fortunally are very rare but i avoid this type of client
I get that it might be annoying that people bring a lot of people but you have to understand that it’s kinda scary for some people. Like people that are maybe afraid of needles...and it’s exciting and they want to share the exciting moment with people that matter to them.
oh,cmon....getting a tattoo is like, having some kind of ballsy attitude....you don't bring your momma to a studio to hold your hand...that just doesn't go together
no,tattoo artist of her calibar actually doesn't have to put up with morons....its your choice...I appreciate that more than all pleasing "artists" who fuck you for life just to get the money....there is a difference, like in all proffesions..people are plain stupid....and don't listen to experts...are you one?no?then listen and learn....mho,no pun intended
@@skelitonizer same!! im an artist and i would love to design my own tattoos in the future and this just makes me think tatto artists will be like "nah ima do what i want lmao"
such a straight up lady this is awesome :) this is great, informative! cause i watched this so i know what not to do one day when i decide to get a tattoo x3
Why is no one talking about that sketchy stuff at 5:40? I was bugging and went looking for a clue in comments and lost my mind until I replayed the video
I think you're very honest. All of us are guilty of hating some things to do with our work and you have every right to say, its perfectly natural and we are all human. I love tattoos and piercings and i space 2 years or so between each one so i know exactly what i want and i look around at artists who i think will be able to interpret the best design of what i want. It's a tattoo and no one is psychic!
But it's our body right? We get to keep a tattoo of our choice. You just sound like you really hate your job and need excuses. All my tattoo artists were kind and agreed to what I wanted.
TED -dy as in copied another design on you? If that's the case and they made no customisation at all to your tattoo or even mentioned that the design you wanted was already on somebody they aren't a very good artist.
There’s literally no whispering... wtf are you smoking? it’s the mic picking up the breeze and movement in the room. Doesn’t sound anything like whispering.
Great video and tips for our next tattoo. Just one thing... in my case I feel really identified with that kind of people who don't know what to do but they don't know what to do. In this case... what can we do?. We don't try (at least I don't) to be annoying. We just need help and advise from a professional. That's why we pay all that money you all get. And very good luck with your baby. Keep going with your videos whenever you have time. I like them very much!!
Loved this video :). My husband paid for me to get a half sleeve for my birthday and I was super nervous because even though I had gone in and given my tattoo artist some ideas I had no clue what he had actually come up with before my appointment. But in the end I have been so glad that I didn't interfere with his process and let him run with the idea because he had come up with the most amazing stuff! Love the tattoo he's done for me and when I'm ready to turn my half sleeve into a full sleeve he will be the one I go to :). I wish I was half as creative as tattoo artists are. You guys are amazing with what you do and how you do it!
If someone has tons of tattoos and they have their own aftercare process, and your tattoo didn’t heal well, it’s likely your fault as an artist. It’s fine. Sometimes tattoos don’t heal perfectly. But to tell someone who is covered in tattoos with a history of their tattoos healing well, that suddenly it is the fault of their aftercare process …the same aftercare that was fine for their first 30 tattoos…is a little arrogant.
Isabelle Rizo yeah industries where low qualified laborers think they're God's gift to mankind, like Starbucks baristas or nail salons to name a couple
about the tanning issue -what happens if someone is already nicely tanned when they get the tattoo? later (maybe in the winter) when their tan goes away, how will the tattoo be affected ?
As much as I appreciate a subject like this being brought to light and discussed, I think one should be done on the subject of tattoo artists to avoid also. So while we can take this knowledge with us to our next tat sessions in order to not be annoying, we should also know what the warning signs are for neglectful shops and artists. Some artists like to charge professional prices for art that looks worse than prison shit, but can hide it well. Just saying.
My complaints about tattoo artists I've had: 1. Offering me painkillers. First of all, these people are not doctors, yes I'm in pain when my neck and the underside of my upper arms are being worked on, but I can take it, and I was a severe opiate addict who overdosed six times, and even the smallest buzz could lead to a relapse, this was at a reputable place in Venice C.A. and later on I realized a few of the artists supplemented their income by selling oxy. Not cool. 2. Acting super professional when we meet, then hitting on me awkwardly when i'm laying down in a vulnerable position. 3. Overcharging for something really simple just because the person looks like they have a lot of money. 4. BABIES AND SMALL CHILDREN. If you can afford a tattoo you can afford a babysitter, I don't like babies, not everyone does. Keep them away from tattoo shops, they get bored, overstimulated and they cry, I don't want the soundtrack to my tattoo to be your kid screaming and crying. Same with nice restaurants and movies not meant for kids. 5. Snobs. Some of my best work was done by a man who learned how to tattoo in prison, his shop is simple and clean, and it's located in east LA, he is amazing and will cover up gang tattoos for free, rich white kids who are underage constantly come in to get blasted thinking he'd do that because of where the shop is located. He won't, he knows your ID is fake, and he's not going to blast you with random crap he knows you'll regret later, obviously if you really want them you'll find someone. I got my first tattoos at 16, artwork from a Marilyn Manson album, which I actually do like, a snake wrapped around my lower leg which I had to retouch, and the classic nineties arm band with bats and pentagrams I had covered up. What you love as a teenager will change, just be aware of that.
Completely agree- no good artist would copy some tattoo off Google or Pinterest. Why would someone want to have someone else's tattoo on their body anyway?! Tattoo artists want to create original pieces not copy. It's also unfair on the client who has the original piece that was custom designed for them.
This is why I dont work with the public. It's a nightmare.... alot of neurotic people out there. Bad energy.... Maybe you need to create something which will help weed out these people. There not good customers and they end up being a headache. Blessings to you.
OMG!!! ONE MILLION VIEWS??? I have been away for several months because I am expecting a baby boy in 3 weeks. I will make new videos as soon as I get some spare time. I have missed this little hobby on the side! Do you have any requests about videos you want to see in the future?

How about your take on future trends ,whats coming next.great videos love em.
Sooo u tattoo the client the way you want .. not the client !!???
Congrats hopefully you love the job of a mother because it's seems like you hate being a tattoo artist
To be a good client make sure to do this:
1) Don't haggle
2) know what you want and don't keep changing your mind
3) Be on time or 10-15 minutes early to appointment
3) shower before tattoo appointment
4) don't bring a lot of people with you
5) don't micromanage your artist
6) listen to your artist aftercare instructions
aaaand, that is still too much of an effort for many commentators here.....well.....(agree.;)))..its plain and simple, people dont like order, thats it....stupidity is a trend)
Yeah, bring ONE quiet, respectful, responsible friend or family member to keep you calm if you are nervous or scared of needles or something.
Exactly it’s not hard if everyone did that there wouldn’t be annoying artists like this who whine on forever about how bad there customers are
@@motomc6962 you're right!following few simple steps at doctor's isn't an issue, and following the same at tattoo studio is?ehm.....ok
Well if your gonna haggle haggle upwards not downwards
I'm guilty of Number 10.
If i'm paying for something, especially if it's pricey,
I want it to be in the right position and to look nice.
Melanie Exactly. It's gonna be on my body forever so if I'm picky about the stencil I think the artist should understand
Yeah me too... That's how it should be though! It's gonna be you forever, you have a right to be picky about it! You want it to look nice and be how you imagined it! A good tattoo artist might think it's s little annoying, but should definitely understand and respect that.
so make up your mind before .
I did it too. Almost walked out because he couldn't get it symmetrical, then got pissy with me....
Obviously if the artist is NOT doing your tattoo how you agreed then say something, but don’t do it during the tattoo that’s being done how you agreed for it to be
"She seems to have a lot of complaints" Yeah 20 of them, clues in the title. Censor your own viewing.
Well said xD
Lmao this comment 😂
And her complaints are like a single sentence or 2
Lmao probably because this isn’t her first video about the subject
Hehehe yes!
EpilepticGiraffesX so make those decisions before the 2nd and 3rd stencil like she said
or don't go for tattoo at all if you can't make up your mind
+Astarte Astaroth Have you ever gotten a custom piece? Where an artist sketches something up for you from your ideas? They usually show you it when you show up for your appointment. You may love or hate it, and want to change what they did. That's their job is to create art for you that you like. For a good artist you're paying hundreds to thousands of dollars for that piece, a little inconvenience to them to change the sketch shouldn't be an issue. Not everyone wants to just pick something off a flash sheet or copy something they found on the Internet.
Same
Yes ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Number 10 is a shit complaint, tattoos are expensive and will be on your body forever , you need to get the positioning 100%
100%
it still isn't the tattoo's decision on where the tattoo is placed. Honestly I could care less if the tattooist has other clients. They aren't working on those clients right now. They're working on me. If I don't like the way its placed, yeah, I want it changed. Im not saying changing the stencil, im just saying change the placement.
any GOOOD tattoo artist will say
" we can change the placement as many times as you want until we get it too a good position you like since its going on your body for the rest of your life".
Both of my tattoo artists have said that line to me. a GOOD tattooist wouldn't give a fuck, because they just want their customer happy.
Zoiyee cx yes yes yes!
I had to watch half of the time but luckily mine was on my wrist so I'd hop from scrolling through fb to looking down n watching my cow come to life!
@frammug1609. So four years later are you not tire of that tattoo and wish you would have left well enough alone?
@@JustMeandMykittyKats-kl8tp I'm very happy with my tattoos. If you don't like tattoos, why are you watching videos about the topic?
I got a tattoo last night and I was thirsty so I asked my brother (who came with me to watch because he's going to get his first tattoo in a few months) to hand me my soda but the artist was doing a line so I told him to wait before I grabbed it. When he finished the line he said "thank you so much, you wouldn't believe how many people would just move while I'm in the middle of it." Just sit still people! Common curtesy!
Sarah Basto only this time, it was all I brought with me! Happy to report I haven’t had soda in 3 weeks 😁
Wow more like common sense. That's sad lol. And I bet if the tatt doesn't come out the way they'd like, they'll complain it's the artist not being professional or some bs.
When you said doing a line, I deadass thought they were doing coke mid tat
Well if u move u get a crappy tattoo. Why would u move. It's going to be on you forever
The Original EB I agree I mean it's going to be PERMANENT so as long, as the artist is getting the money they deserve at the end
Agree, I always tip extra when I change my Mind in the last minute
There are two sides to this as with most things
Like if you want pop culture, or a band logo, that's someone else's work
If the art was paid and made for the client by someone, then the client wants someone else to tattoo it.
You had an amazing tattoo artist 😊
Thats because you had a good artist
that's how it supposed to be done, but as an artist there's protocol you don't just blatantly copy someone else's work try to switch it up a bit, make sure the client is extremely comfortable and happy with the design and decisions made
Because you should of come prepared... if that tattoo is so important than you would of done the research and you would of put in work just like us....
%100 agree
People get sooo offended whenever I post on Facebook the reminder that tattoo shops aren’t the place for kids. If you can pay for a tattoo, you can also pay for a baby sitter. Kids not sitting still in a tattoo shop is incredibly stressful and dangerous. Buuuuut some people still accuse me of ‘hating kids’ and they want to use the excuse “oh, my child is just curious’. Then make them watch ink master or some shit. Hahahaha.
Carly Allman ikr, kids are germ factories too!
Carly Allman I do hate kids
She doesn't pay the customers, they pay her.
we do the tattoo our way? I am an artist and unless I am doing something for myself I do as the customer asks. All my tattoos were what I wanted and paid for. If you wanna be greative paint your walls..when I pay for service I expect what I paid for
Love this. U r right
If you’re referring to #4, as an artist you would copy someone else’s work if that’s what the customer wanted?
Amen!
❤️❤️❤️
I lost my children's father in 2012. He was murdered in front of me. Since then I have PTSD and anxiety. Music is my only escape. I chose "stronger than I was" one of my favorite songs, because I am now, and because I look down and see it on my arm all day long. I have three kids who need me to stay strong for them.
I've had depression for most of my life and I know how hard it can get, so I just wanted to let you know that I'm happy you decided to keep on going :)
Caitlin Marie aww that’s amazing.
yes I actually scratched my tattoo on my arm and peeled off the scab its still faded in that spot to this day, dont peel off the scab folks
''we're artists not copy machines''
YES!
omg little bit in love with you haha!
+treacle tatts 😘
XD We have this exact phrase written on our Release Form we get people to sign before we Tattoo Hahaha
treacle tatts yeah we give the tattoos we want nt the one you want it’s not like it’s there for a lifetime or anything
Boy don't start.
15)''It's gonna stay on your body for the rest of your life''
So she does not like it when people decide on something that is going to be on their body forever, but is actually aware of that fact.
I’ve learned from watching you that tattoo professionals are true ARTISTS as they have to create and draw - so intriguing!
i can't imagine how frustrating it might be but #10 is kind of a reach because although you are the artist you never know what idea the person getting the tattoo has in their head, maybe its very significant and means a lot to them and they're going to have it on their body for the REST of their lives so can't say i agree with #10
Munda 100% agree.
Agreed, getting a permanent tattoo is kind of a big deal. It’s you that’s got to be happy with it for the rest of your life
Totally agree 🙌🏼
You'll remember in the example she gave the client went back to the first design, because the artist knows best. Either do your research and trust your artist. You should care about your tattoos, of course. But come on. Being a brat about it doesn't make you discerning.
I was going to say..
You get pissed off when someone wants their tattoo to look how they want it?
Would you get irritated when someone asks you to change the design 40+ times? "Oh i totally want that! oh wait nvm i changed my mind.. i want this instead! oh wait.. can you change that?"
especially when they have another appointment at a specific time. its like are you going to commit or not?
Poopy Peepod I don't think thats not what they were saying. Its just people who are looking over as t there arm. Even then its a big thing, you are doing something that is extrwmely hard to remove.
Bayliekerswill I was just about to say that
Madeline TheFab well I'm not a tattoo artist but I do digital and traditional work and you meet people like this.
LIke: I've got this allergy - My skin is to sensitive
or you could ask the artist to try it out on your normal, dry skin. When your skin is itching after this or something else it would be worse with the tattoo... When everything is fine you could try out the cream.....
Tristen MT That’s fine but don’t blame the artist if it didn’t heal right when you used products they didn’t recommend.
Lucky Sister That sounds terrible. I hope you never have to deal with people this rude again.
StevoLad1990 harsh
StevoLad1990 U can't say shit if you weren't there.
jesus Christ if she has any idea how disgusting her phone is she wouldn't have it anywhere near your equipment, it's like she's begging for an infection, or a crooked line with the moving and sucking face. please, for shits and giggles, if you can provide a hint to the zodiac sign I'd be forever in your debt
edit:typo
also "it's perfect" in a disappointed voice, she could have been looking for any imperfection that might get her that tattoo for free :/ which is so disgusting I hope it itched badly the whole time it was healing
You want to do it the way you want?! But it's my body and I must wear it rest of my life, so shouldn't the customer decide???
Your right the customer should decide what to get or not its their body not that tattoo artist. 💯💯
It's basically "Stolen art"
If I get a badass wolf tattoo does that mean me and my artist now own it?
Thankyou.
Not impressed by her.......half of that was just filler , also her own tattoos didn’t look good so I would be careful of ink in her league.
haha look her up and tell us that again
You are too kind :)
Bugsy Malone you really were too nice. She needs to realize her Art Institute diploma is only a step above toilet paper and Trump University
tattoos aren’t a haircut you act like you want to get it over with and that it’s not a big deal i don’t blame you but the customer has the right to be happy with their tattoo and you should take into consideration on how they feel about the design and how much effort is being put into their work that will be on their body forever so don’t freak out if they don’t like the stencil
let her rant dammit
@@cch1899 Oh, it can take 30 minutes to change the design? Having an ugly tattoo will last 80 years.
I think she's talking about the unrealistic people.
Well, after this, I'm lowkey scared to get a tattoo. Is that really what tatoo artist think? I get you are an artist but I'm the canvas. I'm the one having that tattoo for the rest of my life.
You find an artist that suits you. You are taking this WAY too harshly.
They are worried that all tattoo artists have these peeves, and that by speaking, breathing, moving, or looking around your tattoo artist will suddenly hate you,, -which is a terrifying thought because-
-they're putting something on your body permanently-
Nah man, artist are fucking weirdos in general thats coming from a person who took visual arts and wants to be an tattooist. I hope you find your dream artist and I hope you get your dream tattoos.
ariane. Not all tattooists are like this. If they were then I wouldn’t have the amount of tattoos I have now. Just find the artist you like. 🖤
That's all she is saying.
my artist does that too cause he knows im a total wuss puss when it comes to pain, hell they always have music playing in the background 😂
I'm shocked I'm not guilty of any of these.. I have such paranoia of being annoying. 🤔
Samantha T sameeeeeee
SAME
I was so surprised haha
same meeeeeeeeee :)
That's because you're a Millennial.
Once my mother unannounced just showed up with friends at my appointment. I’ve never been so embarrassed. I didn’t even tell her I was getting the tattoo done, someone else did. We live in a small town so there were only 2 shops at the time.
I was 22 at the time, too.
I remember that
So pretty much everyone pisses her off
Dmitriy no just be a normal person. Go get tatted, know wtf you want on your body, let the artist do their thing and focus, don’t move or try not to as much. That’s it and if they do a good job tip them! That’s what I do.
Was just gonna comment that 😂 😂
quick question: where's the line between being a know it all and calling out your artist's mistakes?
I mean, you could ask an artist politely "hey could you go over that a bit straighter" or "could you please fix that up a little bit"
however dont be a know it all like, "a good artist would do it like this" or "could you make your lines any straighter!?"
I think it's all about your wording and being polite. ask questions because it makes you seem curious, meanwhile stating "facts" makes you seem know-it-all
@@FuryVoxx77 you can turn off caps lock by just pressing the caps-lock button again.
I hate people on their phone
I hate people who bring friends
I hate people who bring parents
I hate people who know what they want
I hate people that laugh
I hate parents who advice
I hate this, I hate that, all I want is to get paid and not deal with people as an "artist"
Know what they want? Wait wtf?
Hade grime :DD
InkAirArt - she's the one being a spoiled brat. Your type and her type are the reasons I'm probably not gonna get a tattoo.
I'm sorry, but if I want something specific, I'm paying for something specific. You don't get to say "Yo I'm the artist and I'm gonna do this instead"
Wolf Sleigher what she didn’t explain is that besides it being disrespectful to the other artist there can be legal issues with inking someone else’s work.
It isn’t your art to put on your body. You don’t deserve tattoos if you can’t respect them enough be original you little worm.
You can get something specific. What you can't get is a tattoo artist to blatantly copy another artists work. That's literally stealing.
I learned that you pick the best artist and let them do what they do. A good tattooer will try to give you what you want.
Funny thing is yes, they can. You can say "I want this tattoo" and they have all right to say "Nah I don't want to do it"
Looks like someone hates what they do I'd never go to her shop knowing I be judged
then you have no clue who this artist is and believe me most artist deal with people like this and have the same opinions about clients who cant behave
What.... she made valid points, people are just so dumb.
SANTINO Chad people at every job ever judge customers. She made valid points on things that would cause trouble for a tattoo artist. She needs to concentrate while working just like everybody else at their job.
every single tattooists hates all of the exact same shit. You just don't see them telling you.
Shivarra you’re too young to understand what it’s like working a 9-5 job then. Multiple unpleasant customer experiences will eventually make you frustrated. There are rules that customers need to obey while in a tattoo shop so what she is saying isn’t unreasonable.
good info for those who go for first tattoo.
surfitlive very. very. lame.
surfitlive smh😔
surfitlive i laughed
That was terrible though 😂
surfitlive that's equivalent to: Are you guys feeling alright? *Silence* No, because you're all left! *Chirp chirp*
“We are going to make it the way we want it” how about the way the customer wants it. I mean it’s not like it’s on their body...for life.
This is the only profession I’ve ever seen that has the nerve to talk shit about people who are making the money.
So relieved I don't do any of these things!! I only have 5 tattoos and I go to the same artist, she is absolutely amazing and I always trust her judgment. 🌹
So glad I clicked on your channel!! 💕 excited to watch more of your videos!
Thank you! So glad to hear.
Exact same story hereee!!! 5 tatoos, thanking I didn' t do any of these things, love my tatoo artist!!;)
Same here
Same here xD although I gave lost some faith in her last time she did a touch up of my tattoo, it seemed like she was trying to see how fast she could do it rather than taking her time
Not sure why you are getting so much hate on this video.
I agree with you,my friend, artists are not pets, neither massagers are and so on so forth, just being respectful to one another is the key.
VEXARI I've been looking all over for someone to recreate some hard to find instrumentals for a mixtape project. How much do you charge per song?
Really doesn't sound like it
No one cares
You seem really uptight. I wouldn't want to go to you to get my tattoo done. I understand a lot of these, but like I would just feel like I'm being judged the whole time. Like, the whole point of doing a stencil is that you can check the placement and redo it if it's not what you want. That's going to be on your body forever.
She sounds like she has had a hard day at work idk abiut uptight
This is literally her top 20 worst. If you didnt want to listen to her explain the things she dislikes most about clients, maybe dont click on a video that says "my top 20 worst clients" hm? I think everything she's said makes sense, but that's probably because I've had many tattoos done my many artists and I have friends that are artists so I understand the process and how certain things can be frustrating.
Exactly ugh I've been looking for this comment hahah
I don't think she's talking about repositioning.
But, redoing the whole design.
They show you the stencil, before putting it on you...
And tattoo artists don't want idiots like you as clients
I agree with all of these except the "we don't copy artists" if you are a fandom artist, then you copy. I have pokemon tattoos and mario tattoos. you better believe the artist copied an image.I also dont agree with the stencil one. you dont get to decide if the stencil looks good. the person getting the tattoo does.
VampyrRaye it's less copying the theme (be it mario or a rose) it's more taking another tattoo, line for line, and trying to recreate it
Tasmin Henson whats wrong with that?
Naysia it's hard to stop people doing it I get that, but it's very easy to just ask the artist "change up this design a lil to make it different"
My tattoo artist recommended a cream for me and I used it and it irritated my skin so I use my own cream ( Mind you my tattoos have healed perfectly so.)
foreal!
also she mentioned how no " good tattoo artist copies another work".
ISH ISH she made it seem like even one friend was “a lot”.
#10 is about people who can't make up their minds and waste the artists time because they can't commit to a design that was changed 20 times.
I was debating getting a tatoo ... after watching this I changed my mind . Thank you .
I have a salon and all of these types of clients are completely relatable.... our guests are the reason for either really great days or awful days that make me question my life lol
Arianna P same here. But it is fun to learn and then use various techniques to make it easier on myself as well as the guest in my chair :)
I’ve actually asked parents to go ahead and help themselves to some coffee or a magazine and have a seat in the waiting area.
People getting defensive in the comments lmao i have sympathy for their artists.
I, too, have annoyances at work with people. You aren't special.
👏🏽
#2 is funny because one time... I was a getting a tattoo done. And yes, I looked too. I told my tattoo artist to not tattoo a spot, cuz I wanted something there. And he thanked me, he thanked me for correcting him. And we have a beatufiul tattoo! so sometimes, you gotta let your client speak up!
TRUST ME SHE DOESN'T MEAN SOMETHING LIKE THAT... SHE MEANS WHEN PEOPLE THINK THEY KNOW ARTWORK BETTER THAN SOMEBODY WHO IS AN ARTIST FOR A JOB
Fury Voxx chill out my dude, turn cap locks off, stop commenting. You won’t make everyone understand lol
I missed my appointment- dealing with insomnia but finally feel 😴- apologized profusely and rescheduled at his convenience.
A lot of people here saying I wouldn't get a tattoo by this lady... I would! This woman is firm to the point and I think super creative
But the artist has to respect you too.
ofcourse there are plenty of options . but people who wants to go to a well reknown shop or artist should know that you dont come in there with your phone and start showing pictures of other peoples tattoos and so on , that maybe works in a shop that just do whatever tattoos that was my point . but artists that have a well known reputation and have spent years n years to perfect what they do YOU should know what your looking at when looking at the portfolio they have . and like i said hehe no they dont have to do anything if its not there style or if they feel you showing up something they cant be proud of doing , thats where `´ its not about you `´ come to play , a artist can say no , but hey there are many many shops and artists out there but if you want great work you should listen to the artist.
jesco white the fact that I pay the person
With my money
Which I worked for
So basically all customers lmfao
No ! Just you !
Ya basically all customers
Not really. Usually first timers.
Yea... i have more tats than i can count and have never done most if these... i smoke and will only go out for one when the artist needs a brake... so no not all customers.
+bubu mic g
As a tattooer I completely appreciate this video I just hope more clients can see it and understand how annoying they can be lol
2Pac71x96x14 its not too late when its just the template
Thanks for talking me out of ever getting a tattoo.
there are non doucehe bag tattoo artists, lol. This is the reason I stay out of tattoo shops though. Lots of good non shop tattooist out there
Not all tattooists are like this, it's just finding one that you feel comfortable with
80% of tattoers that I have met are exactly like this woman: full of themselves and dreaming that their diploma from the Art Institute will some day translate into a real painting gallery
Big Nasty
Haha-me too, i was thinking about getting one but i don't want to get a tatoo by someone who i just pissed of by taking to long to decide on the design!
I honestly adore tattoo artists, like you have the agility to keep a steady hand and put something permanent on someone, i dont know how but i adore it
Well, if you're bungling up the tattoo, I'm going to say something. It's on my body!
,aybe you should tattoo yourself then ?
If you have a cancelation why would you be so specific with the style of tattoo you’re willing to do? That’s pretty weird. The majority of people don’t want a portrait, why lose customers because that’s all you’re willing to do? Never heard a tattoo artist say anything like that
My artist says things like that all the time. Offers last minute booking to replace cancellations. He offers these spots at a reduced price, sometimes he will request, in exchange for the reduced price, for someone that wants a specific style that he is keen to work on.
im guessing because its probably something that she has already designed and drawn up....so shes not doing a customer tattoo, it will just be what she already has drawn up.
thats fine.. but for her to only offer a portrait in that spot is kinda anla
a portrait isn't already drawn up.
Thank you for your tips they surely will be easy for me to do since I’m a very introvert quiet person who zones out when getting pedicures or manicures.
+AlecIsNostalgic Thank you!!! :)
If the client wants you to change the Work or picture you already drew, I think it's totally fine I mean they will keep it for the rest of their life.
Also, exchange emails so you can communicate back and forth on the design.
I totally agree 😊
💯
WHEN SHE ASKS IF YOU LIKE THE ART AND THE SIZE THAT IS WHEN YOU WOULD HAVE SOME CHANGES DONE TO IT , IF NEEDED.
how do you get mad at someone making sure that they LOVE what goes on their body
I guess
I'm the weird client that arrives 20 minutes the before an appointment to do my paperwork with nibbles and coffee for the artists 😂😂😂
One of my favorites!!
You... deserve an award!
John P sarcasm or? 😂
Electric Linda ❤❤❤
No sarcasm 😁
Agree with all of these except number 10. This exact attitude is why I'd be afraid to say anything to the tattooist if I saw something I'd want to change.
Same I always feel so intimidated to say or change anything because I’m afraid I’m annoying them
I got so freaked out from 5:43 - 5:53. It sounds like there's a ghost whispering 😳😳😳
wtf was that.....
Wtf
Maby she didn't add that in. Watch Huff paranormal, see how he shows how spirits talk through devices. I sound crazy now, but if you watch, it's very convincing and interesting. ;-)

Fortunally are very rare but i avoid this type of client
im getting my first tattoo this week so im watching this to try and make sure im (hopefully) not a bad client
How did it go?
@sirenlucy932 amazing i got my second a few weeks ago and planning my third for in a few months times
@@not_month6370 That sounds great.
Good luck 👍🏻🍀
I get that it might be annoying that people bring a lot of people but you have to understand that it’s kinda scary for some people. Like people that are maybe afraid of needles...and it’s exciting and they want to share the exciting moment with people that matter to them.
oh,cmon....getting a tattoo is like, having some kind of ballsy attitude....you don't bring your momma to a studio to hold your hand...that just doesn't go together
Yeah but if everyone brings 4 friend and there is 11 client in the shop then you can imagine the crowd.. Bring one that you trust.
Holy moly, does anything please you? If I'm paying the bill I'd like a say in whats going on, chill.

this video literally gives me anxiety about going to get a tattoo, as if it wasn't enough of an anxiety inducing procedure
@@skelitonizer same!! im an artist and i would love to design my own tattoos in the future and this just makes me think tatto artists will be like "nah ima do what i want lmao"
As a tattoo collector since 1991 and former tattoo artist, I agree with you on ALL these points.
such a straight up lady this is awesome :) this is great, informative! cause
i watched this so i know what not to do one day when i decide to get a tattoo x3
Why is no one talking about that sketchy stuff at 5:40? I was bugging and went looking for a clue in comments and lost my mind until I replayed the video
it's so creepy
The whispering! Wtf!
Shes being honest and these people probably dont come around often
TED -dy as in copied another design on you? If that's the case and they made no customisation at all to your tattoo or even mentioned that the design you wanted was already on somebody they aren't a very good artist.
Did anyone else hear the whispering around 5:50
Lita Nicole Stovall damm that’s creepy
There’s literally no whispering... wtf are you smoking? it’s the mic picking up the breeze and movement in the room. Doesn’t sound anything like whispering.
Lita Nicole Stovall yes dis creepy
Lita Nicole Stovall its a sond effect
Yehhhh I got so scared! I had to put the lights on 😅
Great video and tips for our next tattoo.
I like them very much!!
aannd... i've just subscribed ,love you
Number 10 is bs, it’s something that’s basically permanent on your body so stop complaining they want their favorite option
Linda, I think you’re just phenomenal, love the vids, keep it up. Kick ass from Boston, Mass!
Love the comment of how people don't listen! That is so exactly true. thank you!
Thanks for watching!
This can be applied to so many industries
Isabelle Rizo yeah industries where low qualified laborers think they're God's gift to mankind, like Starbucks baristas or nail salons to name a couple
"People don't read anymore..." Right on the money! Couldn't of said it better!
Obviously you don't either when you don't know "couldn't have " from "couldn't of". Pot... meet kettle.
about the tanning issue -what happens if someone is already nicely tanned when they get the tattoo? later (maybe in the winter) when their tan goes away, how will the tattoo be affected ?
I saw one of you're videos when you did a huge back tattoo and I'm just saying you should be on ink master
this is an awesome video. well done.
Oh my you used the Romeo and Juliet op. 64 by Prokofiev at 2:30. I see you. Great piece and I’m ashamed I know it
This is why I dont work with the public. It's a nightmare.... alot of neurotic people out there. Bad energy....
Maybe you need to create something which will help weed out these people. There not good customers and they end up being a headache.
Blessings to you.
Some if these are very similar to my worst clients as a nail tech lol
