England was lucky to make the final. Worst of all, they played 'small nation' football (eg Greece 2004) despite the talent available. Disgraceful! Meanwhile, Spain beat Italy, Croatia, Germany, and France to make the final and they did so playing adventurous, attacking football. It didn't matter the opponent: Spain played toe-to-toe (without fear) against every and anybody.
While some believe Southgate should get credit for taking England to consecutive finals, I'm of the opinion that England made those finals in spite of him. He sets the team up "not to lose" instead of playing to win. Soft mentality.

England were probably the politest finalists ever. They never started an attack without giving their opponents plenty of time to get ready to stop them, and were always ready to give the ball back. The way England played after going behind proves that it was the manager and not the players in the squad: a totally defensive mindset, determined not to win without etra time or penalties. Those players were brilliant: they got to a final despite their manager setting them up to fail. It's mind boggling, I've never seen the like before because those players could have run most teams ragged, but weren't allowed to try.
