Wow, what a beefy low register and sound in general.

Carl Hill also has a couple Schmidt style horns with a piston valve in the world! Joe Rounds in the Pittsburgh Symphony plays one. Great horns!

Jayson Monroe I completely forgot about Karl’s horns. Thanks for reminding me!

Would you suggest purchasing one of these if available and in good working condition? Saw one on Ebay and was tempted to get it. Had to sell my horn due to financial issues due to Covid earlier in the year and have bounced back.

I think these horns have a great sound! The only issue I have with them is the position of the thumb valve. Try one out and see how it works for you, everyone has their own preferences!

Nice video, but one correction - the Conn 6D is a completely different model that is still being produced. The change valve on the 6D is rotary. The Schmidt model had a number designation but I do not recall what it was. Good to hear this model horn. King made a Schmidt model too.

According to all the places that either sell this model horn, along with this source: cderksen.home.xs4all.nl/ConnDModels.html the 6D seems to be the correct number designation. The 6D Schmidt was in use until the rotary valve 6D replaced it some years later, as mentioned by Dick Martz here: rjmartz.com/horns/Schmidt/Conn6D.html
