The sad thing about doll brands that start out with a bang is that there is so much pressure for them to continuously be unique and original. What works for the first few waves have an expiration date. After that date it's stale, like we've seen it countless times.

I'm a big G3 Frankie fan, but their looks are starting to get really repetitive. Same color palette, same silhouettes, similar shoes. Frankie deserves better! There is so much variety within the preppy punk style the designers have given Frankie, and I would like to see that variety represented. All the characters are becoming repetitive tbh, especially when it comes to hair and makeup.

I really really want a green colour scheme for a Frankie doll, from the box art I believe the SS neon frights doll looks promising, but I just hope for more unique palates for them since they’re one of my favourite characters

I think what would’ve made the Project Runway dolls a lot cooler is if the dresses had a transformation gimmick like it did in the show, the ones where you can just tug on something and the whole dress collapses down.

Also, the RH runway dolls have really boring second outfits. Like i get that most of the budget went to the runway outfit, but almost all the girls second outfit is the same. I'm tired of mini dresses. Poppy is the stand out one for having both a good first and second outfit.
I didn’t care for RH junior high until I got JH Jade. I love that little gremlin. I don’t really play with my dolls, but I’ve enjoyed bringing her around and having her posed to interact with the environment like having her climb a bowl of fruit. I don’t know she’s just my little baby.
Same for my Junior High Poppy. Only have her so far, but I might end up buying one of the twins.
I love junior high Jade too, her outfit is just so fun. She’s the only jh doll I have & i like her so much better in person than I expected to!

She only released as a Disney LE, I love Yzma but she looked a bit scary in the toys made for the movie

Rainbow High is the only contemporary doll I collect and the upcoming releases leave me cold for the same reasons you stated: I just don't care for the fashions. So, I'll be saving some money at least. I'm interested in the white-haired customizable dolls, but I'll have to see reviews and/or see them in person before I make the leap.
When I heard you mention Xcanadensis I screamed! I love her content! So glad to see my two favorite doll channels being friendly. Some collectors/channels can feel so gatekeeper-y. Love you guys!

The Aladdin Ily doll is a little disappointing because he looks so much like the orginal character, but the new fashion packs are amazing! Surprised you didn't talk about the new ones since some of them are based on attractions, which is similar to the Disney attraction dolls you talked about in the past. My favorite has to be the space mountain one. Also, there's one based on the Beast for the male doll, and it has a much better design.
i actually prefer the rainbow junior high. those smol gurls are more "1/6 scaled" which is more appropriate for what i do with dolls in general (i customize them, also i don't care about fashion). in my opinion they're more a play line for kids, compared to their older counterpart who look more fit for collection. i bought a Natasha Zima and regretted it instantly.

@@em84c lol, yeah she is, but as i said, it's a matter of size. i don't collect. i customize, make photostories with dolls, barbie/monster high scaled preferably. so Rainbow high girls are just too big for me (the head size among other things). i just don't know what to do with those... but i would love to have a junior natasha ^^

I actually thought them doing the runway outfits for RH was pretty cool; I guess I just don't care about the web series so it doesn't matter to me if they retroactively decided to recreate a look from season one (I also don't think of 1-2 years ago as...a long time ago?). I personally like seeing the real life versions, and I think Sunny's is especially cool because it has this playful, gimmicky runway look that feels authentic to her being a fashion student and unique for playline dolls. I'm also really happy to see Jade with a dark lip, and Skyler looks best with big bouncy curls to me. Yeah the second outfits are unfulfilling and all the budget went to the main dress, but I all of that is to be expected and doesn't make me mad.
But I work for a company that is a licensed partner of MGA, and I attended a meeting with them where they did kind of a state of the union presentation on their lines. A little insight I think I can share from the notes I took is they felt they got away from the strict color theme (they said they 'lost their way' from this in 2022), the core cast, and the premise of being at a fashion school (hence the Skyler playset.). They are also trying to retarget moms and younger kids which is worrisome. The runway looks seem to me like them trying to position that marketing strategy - doing a new line with the core characters (it's been a while, right?), focusing on their specific color schemes and individual looks, and the dramatic dresses probably appeal to kids + the extra outfit being boring probably doesn't befront them and mom's feel like they're getting more value. I don't really know and probably couldn't share much else but I do think we're going to see the line in this direction this year.
thank you for the insight! on a similar note if appealing to parents and younger kids is MGA's aim then the shadow high series 3 leaks that have been circulating for a while now makes sense as to why their names are so 'childish' and so on the nose :')

@@saragreenfire4515 I kinda wonder if it started as a 'fashion school' concept but because they expanded the characters and wanted them to have unique areas of study expanded to an art school? I think art school would've been the better direction to start with, but I think the word 'fashion' probably comes across as more glamorous and marketable for a fashion doll line. Just hypothesizing though

Even though the runway looks were not expected, I'm always in love with jade. Her black lip is so cool and the boots do really make her look stunning. I wish i had more room for another doll. I'd get her in a heartbeat

I am excited for the Magic Mixie Pixlings! I will definitely be picking up Deerlee. I hope the doll line is successful so they can do more waves, do fully fabric clothing, and add knee articulation. The fantasy theme is a really good idea when paired with beautiful doll designs, so they have a lot of potential. It would be awesome if they did an "older sister" series, although I really LOVE the mini size.
12:47 I think making two outfits for most of these dolls would be too easy. The whole point of most of their outfits is that they transform on stage. All you have to do is make two dresses : the before and then the after. The only ones this wouldn't work for would be Jade (because her change is more of an additional layer of lightning to the already existing outfit), Skyler (because her outfit didn't transform), and maybe Violet (because the change was so minimal). And back to Jade, I don't know how they could have made the lightning look better than with this plastic piece without adding a lighting effect that would hike up the price; both of production and sales.
as someone who's not really in the know in the fashion doll collector community, i always look forward to your monthly update videos!
OH MY GOD I WAS NOT EXPECTING TO START CRYING WHEN I SAW THE LATINISTAS LOL. I don’t think I’ve EVER seen an exclusively Latina fashion doll before and it touched me so much how genuine they feel??? Like it doesn’t make sense because they just look very “normal” but I think its the normalness that really gets me? Like usually when I see a Latino character represented in media its either a period/cultural piece (think Encanto or coco) or based on latin-american communities in the US ( Vivo to a point, Spiderverse, and In the Heights) which is hella valid but it can feel very exclusive at times because we might not be able to see ourselves represented in the characters. For example I’m told a lot that I look a lot like Mirabel, I definitely relate to many of the topics in the movie but I’m not Colombia so theres a limit to my identification with the character (which is totally fine!!!! She’s Colombian and they deserve that rep too!!!!) and then you have Nina from In the Heights (a movie that was a little painful to watch at times as someone that had to leave her home due to its political and economical crisis) is Puerto Rican like me but I couldn’t relate to her one bit (nor any of the characters tbf) bc she is second generation in the mainland US and I was born and raised in Puerto Rico. The closest I’ve gotten to feeling represented (and this also made me all giddy lol) was in the second Spiderverse movie because they focused a bit more on Miles Puerto Rican side and Miles’ mom felt so much like me and my mom and the other women in my family. Anyways these dolls are blank canvases and their blankness is exactly what makes them so inclusive as weird as it may sound. Like she could be Chicana or Argentinian, Newyorican or Ecuadorian, Dominican or El Salvadorian or Puerto Rican or Cuban and her life is as flexible as Barbie because of it too! She’s a modern girl that can be a president of the world, superhero, teacher, doctor, student, princess or literally anything and its so comforting??? Idk how to explain it?? I feel this might’ve been how black girls felt when the Naturalistas came out maybe, if anyone wants to chime in I’d love to hear your side of the story! Anyways this is a long way of saying these dolls made me obscenely happy and I will be snatching one (or all of them) when they come out and I’ll probably cry as I do it. I’ll feel bad for the employee at Target who’ll spot a sobbing grown ass woman in the toys aisle holding a doll like if she was holding idk baby Jesus or something 😂

i am so excited about the constance le doll!! she's my favorite park character and i've wanted to make a custom of her for so long. i never thought they'd actually make an official one, especially with her being the first in the series! it feels so specifically tailored to me
The pixlings look adorable and I've been hoping sm for some cute fantasy fashion dolls but the fact that they come with the big plastic gimmick bottle packaging definitely gives me pause and puts me off of wanting to pick them up. I'm so ready for the blind box/gimmick reveal trend in toy packaging to be done. So much bulky waste if you don't have space to keep every item :(
I hate blind packaging with a passion too!!!! They usually aren't even cheap so what if you buy 3 and get something you hate or already have? its just a total waste of money and bad for the environment
You can tell which one you are getting by the color of the gem on the box!!

I love the Pixlings, and in general Magic Mixies- I always thought the execution of the surprise was unique on the market. And I am SO excited for Runway Jade; I think it’s a vast improvement from the original! Both outfits are amazing 💚

Something else that's releasing soon that I'm super excited for is Series 2 of Zombaes Forever!! It's all animal themed and this time there's 15 dolls to get! The first line was really strong, and tbh in the second line, there's some flops. But for the $10 price point they still have an insane attention to detail. It's the only line I can say I have completed.
I cannot wait for the pixlings. There's so many doll drops out of nowhere recently on Amazon (lol series 8, rainbow high two pack, monster high) and I just found both skulltimate secret lines in person so my bank account is weeping

I'm so excited about the RH Runway dolls as I loved the looks in the show, and as a newer collector I like how the dolls include second looks that are in a similar vein to the original doll outfits. They also looked better in person than the stock photos, which left me wanting to get any I wasn't sure about before - like Violet - so I want to get the whole series.
For budget reasons I am waiting for now, but will have them on my birthday and holiday lists.
Also, with Sunny being my favorite RH character I have been psyched for the twins pack as well.

with the pixlings the crystal on the bottle has a different colour depending on who you get :3 plue , pink and i think a peachy orange colour

I know! I wanted that Alice doll so bad. I just can’t afford $100 dollars. They won’t even let you use PayPal in 4 so if you are on a budget you can’t get her. It’s kind of stupid because half the fans are living paycheck to paycheck. I still want her and hopefully in the future I can get her. 🖤

I fell in love with RH and I love how unique most of their characters are! Sunny doesn't fit my style but it encapsulates her character perfectly! I adore the way Luna looks, but she is way more my style. Oh I didnt even realize it was one lmao I thought it was a gem shirt! I love the junior high line so much! I'm really happy they exist. I'm loving Skylar more and more every time I see her. OMG THE RUNWAY LOOKS ARE SO PRETTY I LOVE THEM!! I genuinely love these outfits!

for the alice doll, i was so SO excited when i saw her picture, and then i saw it was a mattel creations doll and immediately knew i was gonna skip her lmao. and i was actually pretty hyped about the fashion show looks finally being translated to the actual dolls, but i was very worried about how they were going to execute jade's look. i thought in the cartoon her look was the coolest, but i had no clue how they were going to recreate it for a playline doll. turns out my concerns were valid haha ): it just looks so hammy... i love poppy's dress though!!
Might just be my age showing but i want the whole line of pretty n punk bratz dolls they were one of my favorites as a kid and while i think i still have some of them they are in rough shape and i want new ones to sit looking perfect on a shelf in my office 😍

I feel like for a period of time MGA just wasn't doing playsets for whatever reason (excluding houses + cars). Cause I think the diner set was the first for OMG and that was what? 3 years into their release? Same with RH just getting them now. It feels very weird to *start* playsets this late into a line
If we split the cost on the twin set you can keep Sunny and I'll keep Luna! 😆 But yeah Rainbow High is the only doll line I'm interested in atm and I don't see myself getting much of the newest releases. My mind could change down the line though so we'll see! Shadow High is always my priority though

Moose toys: I like merenna the best of all the pixilings. Might pick her up.theres also a way to tell! Mermaid’s bottle gem is blue, unicorn is a purpley pink, and deer is light pink!
Naturalistas: very pretty. Yass!
Monster High: huge YASS to Amped Up Frankie! They look so cute.
Bratz: pass, but just because I’m not really into Bratz.

Def need a little something for the second outfits.

You know... I hate to admit this but I have extreme RH fatigue. They are all blending into each other at this point. They are all pretty. They've always been pretty. But I'm not sure I need any future dolls.
the mattel creations alice doll is so cute and fun but the price point is mind boggling! give her a second outfit and a stand at LEAST before asking for that!
I’m actually getting the Sunny Runway doll and the two pack of her with Luna because I’m a Sunny stan who has made it my mission to get every doll of her as well as any doll of her sister cause sisters especially twins need to be together. Or at least they do in the doll world.
As for the others I might get Wildflower but only cause pink is my favorite color which yeah means I might get that Mixxies doll or I might get all three since it’s actually easy to figure out who is in which bottle via the gems.
The Disney dolls I’m not sure on besides the villains pack and that’s mostly cause Yzma has never had a doll. Not even when TENG came out in theaters all those years ago so if anything the pack is a must for her alone. Such a shame that Eartha Kitt isn’t around anymore as I’m certain she would of been thrilled to see one of her fav roles finally get the merch respect she rightfully deserves.
Now last but not least (for me anyways) is the latest Bratz reproduction and omg I am so glad that this line is getting remade as I lost my Pretty In Punk Jade so the fact I can finally get a new one that isn’t going to cost me hundreds of dollars to replace is a major plus in my book. Here’s hoping we get reproductions of the Genie Magic line as I’ll give anything to have a cheaper way to get back my favorite Bratz (and Jade) doll that I unfortunately lost because of that a-hole former landlord.

Rainbow/Shadow High is going through a rough patch I suspect a lot of people saw coming. Their output, and huge jump in quality/design over the past 2 years was never gonna be sustainable. I know a lot people (me included) are still trying to catch up with Series 4/5 and SH2, let alone the new girls coming.
I'm also sensing a hard pivot towards trying to appeal as a "safe" kids brand with their commercials, the show and even in the leaked fall lineup. That's turning me off from buying many of the new dolls, it just feels disingenuous.
I'll also just say this: whichever members of the RH team that are still so attached to the original 7 girls need to let it GO. They've upgraded the sculpts and designs for a reason and chaining themselves to dolls that were dated upon release isn't helping anyone.
I mean i am 500% getting that Frankie. This may be the first time i buy more than one of the same doll because i love both the base doll and all of the pieces so much. I do agree with your comment on the ombré boot tho- i think it’s still cute but having ombré boots does not solve what people what been saying about non-painted details.

The monster high twins I will admit the monochrome one is kind of boring but I'd prefer her over sunny still ad I do like a darker theme.
