The Raadha Kalpa Method is a comprehensive training program for Bharatanatyam devised by Rukmini Vijayakumar through her years of research on the mechanics of movement within the Bharatanatyam vocabulary. The philosophy of the training system lies in developing a neutral body and mind such that the dancer is able to be versatile and malleable within performance.
The program is primarily offered at the LshVa Studios, run by the Raadha Kalpa Dance company in Bangalore.

Yoga and meditation has somehow led me to Bharatanatyam and so am impressed by the depth of content behind it and by the complexity of the movements. The music that escorts the dance is as complex and demanding, therefore also very fulfilling. I am so glad I have discovered this treasure. As a european, I am overwhelmed by the richness of the indian culture. I hope dancing schools if this type will flourish in the world. For my seven-year old daughter you are an idol and I am glad she chose such an outstanding woman for a role model.

I believe bharatanatyam is particularlly relevant today in a world where celebreties and stars sustained by old media become obsolete and people can potentially enjoy better quality artworks.

Yes Barathnatyam has the ability, through skillfull- co-ordination of leg movements-& hand gestures to communicate beautifully....... I used to be a Barathnatyam dancer..... my dancing classes started off outside my school premises... then, the same dance teaching couple started giving lessons in our school.... there were many dances they choreographed to English songs which we performed for school functions-. & it turned out beautiful.... In fact much better than the traditional dance recitals which we dance to our local languages.... the response of the educated class to dances to English songs is so, so, positive & encouraging in keeping this art alive!

All the Classical Dance is relevant in any type of World,I Personally feel🙏🙏
I dont know why people make things so complicated. I don't understand why everything has to be 'relevant' and 'pc' in the world today. As a fellow classical Indian dancer we only have one job and that is to entertain an audience. This is the only reason why we train so hard for years, take 3 hours to get ready and dance on that stage. Its purely to impress and please the crowd and nothing else. We just want to showcase our talent and want the audience to enjoy the performance and leave happy and in this we get our satisfaction. It really doesn't matter what kind of performance you are giving and if the audience even understands your abhinaya or mudras, the most important factor is that you engage and connect with the audience through your perfectly executed movements. I want to start a new movement in Odissi whereby the items are more about the relation with dancer and the music. Enough with the Leelas and Shastra references. I feel this is why classical dance doesn't appeal to mass worldwide audience as does with Western and Bollywood dance. People don't understand the expressions and gestures the classical dancer conveys and the audience gets bored. We need the choreography to be more dynamic and have a direct relation with the musical instruments what makes us move our feet. We lack this in the classical field and focus too much on the intricate eye movements or the arms or torso position to express a certain emotion. This is the reason why a lot of dancers lack energy and stamina in the performance so much so that some can't even lift their feet effectively. Audience want to see vibrancy and energetics. To finish I just want to stress that we classical dancers need to start a revolution where we come out of our comfort zone and start composing fresh choreography, something new and exciting to bring in a wider audience as I feel the world is lacking view of this magnificent art form since the performers lack creativity. Lets now focus on innovative ideas....bohut Mahabharat our Ramayana dekhli 🙏🏽

My parents told me, to put my arms down and stop talking with your hands. Instead they would say stand up straight, and look someone in the eyes. The eyes can convey meaning and emotion just as well as your hands. Besides that, then you don't look like a bird flapping it's wings trying to fly. Peace and love to you !
