Andrew thanks so much for once in a while recognizing Kenenisa Bekele. Bekele is the undisputed GOAT of our sport, and while we should all admire Kipchoge for his exploits in the Marathon event, it's also worth mentioning that besides the 2003 WC 5K, Kipchoge has never, ever beaten a 100% healthy, injury free Bekele..
I don't hate on Kipchoge or anything like that, it's just that as a distance running fan, it hurts me that Bekele is all but forgotten about

The fact that after last years Kipchoge WR that people thought was untouchable.... and for Bekele to actually come within 2 seconds was monumental. Because of his prior failures there was an article on the NN running site that states Bekele drastically changed his approach and actually moved to Amsterdam for a while to prepare for this race and actually prepare properly. Amazing that it took him this long to do something like that.

Bekele was the man when I started my track career in 2006. His Berlin performance brought tears in my eyes to see the legend rising once again. He definitely is in top 3 list of male distance running legends. I however, feel that Kosgei's marathon record should be the #1. Radcliffe's record was so ridiculously fast that I thought her record will not be broken in my life time. But anyway, thank you for the great content.

Awesome video! I'd definitely agree with Bekele's performance as the top of 2019. I know all these athletes trained incredibly hard to achieve all those incredible marks (and I know each made very tough decisions and sacrifices) but what Bekele had to endure over the last couple of years truly takes the cake in my opinion. What a comeback that was too! To bad that race was nestled between Kipchoge's marathon record and his under two hour marathon. It seems like Bekele's performance didn't get the proper recognition it deserved. Anyways, I can't wait to see what he has in store for 2020! With that being said, you know all these great performances are just going to collectively push other runners (athletes in general) to testing their limits. It's going to be crazy!

I couldn't agree more, such an amazing performance by Bekele and Kepchogi, I can't wait for 2020 London April 26 ( i think) You should have some live streaming on what people think of those two and who people think will take the crown.
For me, i would say depends on the last 10k, If Kenenisa is close to Kip then Kenenisa will take the crown, but if Kip makes the move around the half it would be the greatest races and Kip will take the crown as always :)

Not only did he finish a marathon but he actually almost broke the marathon record that was only set the previous yr(we prob thought that record wouldn't be broken for a few yrs). I love KB, too, and I enjoyed seeing him run that fast, but BK crushed a previously untouchable record. That was the better performance. I might have found a place in the top ten for Delilah Muhammad, too, rather than making her an honorable mention. That was a great run, holding off Sydney McLaughlin, who also broke the old WR.

The best performance of 2019 is Eliud Kipchoge's sub 2hr marathon. Although Bekele's performance in Berlin was great, it wasn't historic. Like the first ever sub 4 minute mile set by Roger Bannister, the sub 2hr marathon is likewise a watershed moment in distance running history. I am not saying that the floodgates are going to open and everyone is going to run sub 2hr marathons (impossible). But a barrier that at once seemed insurmountable is at least obtainable and within human reach. That is the glory of Kipchoge's sub 2hr marathon. Breaking barriers is what 2019 is all about.

At age 37 Carlos Alberto de Sousa Lopes of Portugal won the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic marathon gold medal breaking the Olympic record that stood till 2008 Beijing Olympics. The 2008 Beijing marathon was won by the gutsy 21 year-old sensation, Samuel Wanjiru of Kenya, in style breaking the Olympic record that still stands to this day in scorching Summer heat and humidity. At the time Samuel Wanjiru still held the half marathon world record and the 10,000 m world junior record.
Wanjiru won all his three half marathon races breaking the world record three times in a row! He then moved to the full marathon where he won all six marathons breaking course records in his first five races with the Beijing Olympics being his second marathon ever! At a tender age of 17 he ran a world junior 10,000 m record of 26.41.75 in Rotterdam in 2005. The cruel hands of death took him away at the tender age of 24!

Dude, I like ur channel and ur style and everything, but seriously... Bekele was ur #1 pick??? C'mon now! The man didn't break a record!!! How can he possibly be above all of the other picks. Thousands of people around the world were following the Ineos 1'59 challenge for months. Real race or not, THAT was the best racing moment of the year, of the decade, man!!!! Anyway, to each its own. Thanks for all the vids. Definitely one of the most entertaining channels for runners out there. Peace!

Trust me, had it not been for his nagging injury, Kenenisa would have, not only broken but also, set a world record on all events of long-distance running and put it as unreachable as his 5k and 10k are!
    Unfortunately, he was unlucky!
But he is certainly coming and the marathon world record is his!

    • @waterproof4403
      @waterproof4403 2 года назад

9:10 That's when Kenenisa made a mistake that cost him the WR. He did a big curve around Legese. He ran a few extra meters. He knew it later that's why he was shaking his head after crossing the finish line

Kenenisa is an epic runner. No words to describe what an athlete he is. But injuries seemed to be cursed upon him. London 2012 could have also been his triumph. The marathon WR and everything could have been his. There's no doubt be could have also ran a sub 26:00 10000m and sub 12:30 5000m.

    • @aplus3299

That 400 was literally a national high school record. Yea Warholm's race was amazing but don't sleep on Boling. That was the icing on the cake for his 2019 track season.

@@aplus3299 Dude no one's denying Boling's great potential and talent, it's just unbelievable that a kid who broke a national high school record managed to sneak into this list compared to Warholm who ran the SECOND FASTEST ALL TIME and Salwa Eid Naser who ran the THIRD FASTEST ALL TIME against Koch and Kratochkovilova who are practically confirmed to have doped.

Not having INEOS159 as the best running moment is a joke. It’s the running moment of the century, if not the greatest running

Yes, I agree, even though he mentions the some 100 miles which are not official races similar to Kipchoge's record! Kipchoge's moment is that of the decade if not of the century.

The track honorable mentions should have made any top ten list. You are biased towards distance running. You should have separated track events from road running and just had two lists.
