I fucking love this series. Having one person who's an expert on the comic and 2 friends who haven't read it is fucking genius. Cause they're gonna ask all the logical questions viewers are gonna have.
I hate it when people say that Spiderman isn't dark. I think he is, but he also provides plenty of humor to counter it. Look at his stories, they're incredibly dark. His girlfriend is killed because of her relationship with him. His best friend becomes a drug addict and eventually tries to kill him. His uncle was killed directly because of his actions. Black Cat dumps him for being himself. His boss mistreats him constantly. Venom. Carnage. Kraven's Last Hunt. The Torment storyline. House of M. Superior Spiderman. The Clone Saga. Civil War. Back In Black. The core of Spiderman, to me, seems to be about this guy who struggles to maintain his sanity and benevolence despite experiencing constant trauma throughout his lifetime.
His stories are mature. We relate to him because he goes through real world problems that we all have to deal with. Death, betrayal and trauma is all a part of real life. His constant struggle to maintain his positivity and altruism through it all is what makes him endearing. I wouldn't necessarily call that "dark" though.
@@samgilley3160he literally is the word brevity incarnate to me lol its what makes that exploration of darkness so compelling, he isn't the Punisher, he's the friendly neighborhood hero despite it all. He's a good boy and not in a creepy kinky way
Genosha was destroyed by a giant Sentinel being controlled by Cassandra Nova, Professor Xavier's twin sister, in New X-men by Grant Morrison. Awesome story.
My science teacher about a year or two before us had a kid with an actual mutation. So when they were talking about mutation and the good kinds of mutation the kid raises his hand and says he has webbed feet like a frog. they didnt believe him so he took off his socks and shoes and he had webbed feet lile a frog! so he can actually swim really really well.
Ben: Can we not call him Chuck? Sal: Wolverine calls him Chuck! Okay fine: Professor Charles Xavier. Ben: We don't have to be so formal.. hahaha So good.
Part of the reason why Xavier does not wipe Scarlet Witch's mind is that he has done the mind wipe thing before on Magneto, which resulted in Onslaught, which was a terrible story arc. I also have a theory that the way they sold Avengers comic books before the movie was by not only making them the most popular characters, but by having them cross over with the X-Men, their historically best selling series. They were somewhat linked by Quicksilver/ Scarlet Witch/ Magneto, and occasionally Beast. This story arc allowed the X-Men to pretty much blame the Avengers for all their problems and hold the Avengers accountable for never trying to help mutants causing the two series to become even more linked, which still affects both of the series to this day.
When I read that event I also read some of the tie-ins. Spider-Man's story is explored in more depth (he black-mails himself and reveals that he's a human because he subconsciously knows this isn't real/right) and Iron man isn't a robot, Tony and his father are like gladiators but at one point Tony joins the resistance
I missed out on reading House of M and it's always entertaining to hear friends recount all it's inanity. Sal really caught my attention around 32:40 when he recounts Wolverine had regained his memory and a small side-story of some gov't official losing his ish and offing himself! So it got me wondering what are the best Wolverine story arcs post House of M that are directly related to his memory?
My theory is that Scarlet Witch can only change wat she has knowledge of, so if she changes reality, places like Asgard wouldn't be affected by her powers because she has no knowledge of it.
+Flex Buffchest True but if she makes reality as she knows it, maybe all the places she doesn't know about aren't even created again... Although it seems like she just has the power to fix stories at this point.
You guys are the best I'm never reading another comic again it's far more greater if I just watch y'all and the highly entertaining way y'all break it down
Good episode. I liked your idea to do just single issues, or single graphic novels. Like you did with Spawn, you could do other character's histories. Oh, and please, when you talk about how awesome a page's artwork is (like in the Spawn episode), could you screenshot it for us?
The end of issue one is SUCH a strong hook. Its frustrating that it immediately turns into a wolverine story and we only really get one scene exploring Peter's place in the house of M. I know its an x-men story, but I felt like it would've been way more compelling told from Peter's perspective.
Great work as always guys! Thanks for doing House of M! I was stoked when I saw this in my subscription feed lol Do you know what other events you're doing in the future?
Cassandra Nova Xavier unleashed a group of super sentinels against the nation of Genosha. Magneto was heavily wounded (and I think he was unpowered at the time) the sentinels were designed to adapt, but the spearhead of the attack was a HUGE super impervious sentinel with bullcrap death beams that could flash fry people in an instant over a pretty extended area. There were survivors of the Genoshian massacre, but all the mutants with crappy powers died without much fight (not all mutants are born equal guys. For every Magneto or Professor X there are like fourteen "Angels") either from all the death beams or from the smaller super adaptable sentinels or the rubble of the huge skyscrapers which all had advertisements for coke for some reason. The mutants we follow in comics are all the really powerful mutants. Most mutants suck.
Um Layla Miller was a character in X-Factor. She was always weird and knowing "too much". She has the ability to see stuff and she has been hinting for a while that her role would be what it was in the House of M. Also Wanda reasons for her "trip" was that she lost control of her powers and she cause the destruction of the Avengers. She killed the man she loved. Vision. She was full of regret after that. This manifests as her daydreaming of having kids and a family with Vision.
Can somebody please explain all of the Marvel sagas/epics that exist in Marvel involving the mutants and non-mutans at a high level and how they all fit together? I see books of about 300 pages of sagas, but I don't just into a story until I understand all of the Marvel sagas and how they all fit together. Has anyone ever created something to show that? So examples are like: Days of future past, Age of a Apocalypse, House of M, all the Avengers stuff involving non-mutants. Marvel should have this mapped out so people will buy the books.
Marvel Explained does a great job of giving you a linear timeline of the epic Marvel events, but not quite a full X-Men timeline. I'll tell you what, though-- if we had enough demand to do something like that, we'd definitely consider it. In the meantime, if you want to just start reading X-Men, you could grab the trade of All-New X-Men and start there, and when they mention an event, you could pick up that story in trade format. And if you have a curiosity, just go grab it! The Phoenix Saga, Chris Claremont / Frank Miller's Wolverine, Decimation, House of M-- you could grab any of them and enjoy a cool story.
Age of apocalypse was where I dropped out of comics, when I came back I came back with House of M as starting point. Gotta soft spot for it, despites its faults
This event showcases Scarlet Witch's true powers....dayyummm....I forgot how powerful she is... imagine if she said "NO MORE HUMANS or NO MORE AVENGERS" instead? that would've been way more fucked up than no more mutants. Plus, I think she's one of the few heroes who could possibly overpowered Thanos with given time or preparations and focus.

My problems with comic are that when they wanted to kill Scarlet Witch, Peter says if i loose controle over my powers will you kill and then wolverine tells him we will same thing to me. Well ultimate spider man is baisecly 616 spider man baised on the personality. Peter is not the person that's bad writin in this comic. Brian Michael Bendis is a great writer but didn't realy do a great job in this comic. After all it's an old comic and Brian Michael Bendis is doing a great job in writin comics like always
I liked this comic and thought Brian Michael Bendis wrote Peter Parker/Spider-Man really well in his stuff such as the New Avengers. 🤷♀️ I do not think Peter Parker would ever actually kill someone, he was just so devastated, heartbroken, and angry that he made the threat. This is not the only time he contemplated killing someone, either. Logan/Wolverine told him in the Dark Reign storyline to kill Norman Osborn if he gets a chance and Peter really does go for blood...but then when Harry Osborn is about to kill his father, Peter realises that becoming a killer will make the killer as bad as the person they are killing and stops Harry.
ComicPOP! They should just replace 616 Wanda with MCU Wanda as a spin-off standalone, who is frankly a superior character and concept in every way (actually, for the first time in 50 years, having decent costumes that reflect her character. Wanda has always been one of my favorite mutants, but hearing about Doctor Strange and what he does gives me a few questions. Is Scarlet Witch more powerful than Doctor Strange? And are there things that Wanda's powers can't affect or have trouble manipulating?
I think the idea is that Wanda can do most of the things Strange can, but only because her mutant ability provides a "shortcut" to the effects, without much understanding of the "how." As a result, Strange will always have an advantage, being a master of the art itself.
TVLittleHouse I think also Scarlett Witch appears incredibly powerful in this issue because she uses Professor X as a conduit into everyone on Earth's brain. Presumably Dr. Strange could do insane things like this too but chooses not to because it's reckless and irresponsible.
+ComicPOP Her Chaos Magic abilities come from CHTHON, the Elder God. He's a pretty big deal. Nothing to do with "mutant abilities" at all. Given he's an Elder God, it's fair to say the notion of Wanda being a mutant has always been silly and never mattered to her character. She's a Witch above all else.
anime-comicnerd I don't think Civil War 2 is all that bad the way it is now, but I also think that Wanda is more powerful than the Hulk because she can alter reality on such a large scale, and I kind of like the idea that some heroes have sort of a lingering distrust of her after House of M. I think that if she had been killed instead of the Hulk it would have created more of a rift between the heroes, but I also like her and I'm glad she isn't dead.
This was a pretty enjoyable video. Keep it up!
TVLittleHouse Yea sure. Send me a message and we'll get something worked out.

Given he's an Elder God, it's fair to say the notion of Wanda being a mutant has always been silly and never mattered to her character. She's a Witch above all else.
Wanda should just adopt!
ComicPOP think you will ever do nextwave?
Well Emma was always more interesting then Jean. :)
I think Civil War 2 would have been better if it had been centered around the Scarlet Witch.
Garrett Morton why would that be better?
anime-comicnerd I don't think Civil War 2 is all that bad the way it is now, but I also think that Wanda is more powerful than the Hulk because she can alter reality on such a large scale, and I kind of like the idea that some heroes have sort of a lingering distrust of her after House of M. I think that if she had been killed instead of the Hulk it would have created more of a rift between the heroes, but I also like her and I'm glad she isn't dead.
Why isn't spiderman a mutant wasn't he mutated by the spider who bit him
he's a mutate, not a mutant. he doesn't have the x gene.
Thank you figured that already thou but still thank you
Sounds like Marvel’s Flashpoint
Ben and Ethan are on different sides. I feel uncomfortable
And the funny thing is Wanda's children actually real.
We're gonna do Children's Crusade one of these days...
