Jim is fantastic at math skills. He lost me back at the first measurement, but boy howdy it does look good. Thanks again Jim. Y'all can have a dance in there when it is all done. Have a Blessed weekend.
It's looking ssooo good. Jim is just the best asset. Wonderful that the two of you work so well together. "Kramer Dance Studio". A place to be so proud to call home for many years to come. ❤❤❤Thanks, Jim and Nate. Great video. 👍 ❤
What a big beautiful room and it looks so sturdy now. I am amazed at the amount of work it took to get you here. Thank you Jim, you are one knowledgeable man and the two of you work well together. I think the great room is going to be perfect, better than cutting it up into smaller areas. BRAVO to you both.
Wow! Great work! Those beams look great. Nate, maybe before you think about cabins, what about just a campsite for extra income. Then later RV parking and then a cabin down the line? Just having a campsite for rent could possibly get your lovely wife closer to quitting her job and to help you more. You both make a great team.
Okay Katie, consider renting an industrial planer, running all the old barn wood from the falling down barn through it, sealing the boards with Minwax color wash, and putting it on the ceiling! Could be so cool!
As Nate always says, "AWESOME"!! It definitely doesn't look like the same house. So happy you all went with this beautiful new open look. Looking forward to seeing the upcoming videos.❤
Look at all that wood! You definitely have a strong structure now. With that house long beam with the wide open concept of your home, it is just going to be beautiful. ...and the smiles on your faces was priceless!
Nate you guys are making so much progress, am so glad you got some help. Everything is going to look so good when you are done. Haven't seen wife in a minute hope all is well. ❤❤😊
That looks great!!! A huge thanks 🙏🏻 to Jim for all his help. You can now see the light at the end of the tunnel. Excited to see the rest of the transformation. Have you considered using pocket doors for the rooms? I think it would give some extra room. Great job to both of you. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Holy cow! Can’t imagine figuring out all those angles to cut! Seriously had mego (my eyes glazed over) moment when Jim was explaining the rise, and calculations to get to 16degree pitch. He’s the measuring wizard! So glad you are finally really making headway on the house. It will be so nice to get moved in. Keep moving! Well done Jim and Nate!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Great job, Jim and Nate! I realize how little I know….as I look up exactly what the function of rafters is and try to understand basic engineering and construction! 🧐🤯🥸
Another huge leap forward! Congrats!!! So glad you found such a great build partner to help you shepherd the process through. What a game changer. Kitchen/dining on one and and a living area on the other with plenty of room for the dogs to pop in and out ;D
I like open beams in natural or light stained wood. I hope you leave some natural wood on the interior. Glad you have some help. Being alone can be dangerous. Great job. Looking forward to what is next.
Absolutely Terry Womack! He’s a gem!!! Looking like move in will be here before you know it! I’m in process of hanging cabin grade 10” wide tongue and groove in my house. Love the look, and it’s so light and easy to install that I’m doing it 100% myself! Count a surplus place close by that has it cheap! No drywall, no taping, no mudding, no sanding!
Well... you are going to have PLENTY of room to insulate that ceiling. I bet you could get nearly double the R-value you need and save some money... right? Looking good!!
Oh... hey... with that one 24" insulation bay, if you ever wanted to put in a skylight or something... you could use THAT stud space (so long as you remember which one/where it is.
Thanks Jim for helping Nate out! You guys did an awesome job! I’m not an engineer. My brain can’t seem to pick up why such a big beam was needed. 😮😅😂 So thanks in advance for the future explanation. I understand the original rafters are warped and wavy and don’t have enough space for insulation. So this corrects those issues. I’m assuming the new beam is basically holding up the old beam and roof since you removed interior walls where the beam was resting. Is that right?
remember sitting in math (trigonometry, geometry) classes and thinking "I will never use this stuff again!" in many endeavors in life we need math. prime example: building rafters.
I think there are two reasons: one is to create an even framework for attaching the new ceiling to (drywall or whatever surface they choose) because the original rafters are very uneven, and the other is to create a deeper cavity for installing insulation. The original rafters don't look deep enough to get much R value in, now that they have a vaulted ceiling.
Everyone needs a Jim in their life keeps projects moving forward thanks for helping out on the kraemer home

You need hurricane clips!
Yep. to be installed.
Looks like your challenge now will being Able to get enough r value up there
Yeah. If needed, I'll put some on the outside when I re-do the metal roof.
remember sitting in math (trigonometry, geometry) classes and thinking "I will never use this stuff again!"
in many endeavors in life we need math. prime example: building rafters.
Great job....do you think you two will be in before winter?? 🙂
I hope so!
Can someone explain the point of a roof within a roof?
I think there are two reasons: one is to create an even framework for attaching the new ceiling to (drywall or whatever surface they choose) because the original rafters are very uneven, and the other is to create a deeper cavity for installing insulation. The original rafters don't look deep enough to get much R value in, now that they have a vaulted ceiling.
@@ellenrees1103 Very well said, and 100% correct.
@@ellenrees1103 thank you
you know ur math😂
So what is holding up the roof if it isn't resting on the top of the beam?
not even the same place is correct.
?
You all have done a great job!!
Thank you so much!
Looks amazing ❤
Thank you 😋
