  • While often referred to as the "Black Samurai," Yasuke's true role in Japanese history is more nuanced. Though he served as a retainer to the daimyo Oda Nobunaga in the late 16th century, there is no evidence that Yasuke was officially recognized as a samurai. Unlike traditional samurai, who were typically born into the warrior class, Yasuke's origins are somewhat obscure. Regardless of his official title, Yasuke's remarkable story offers a fascinating glimpse into the complexities of race, culture, and social hierarchy in feudal Japan

There was no black samurai, all he did was carry weapons for the actual samurai

Try telling these crazies. There is nothing you can say to convince them otherwise.

Thank you for this video . Yasuke may not have been granted Samurai status, but as a retainer witnessed the death of Nobonaga and the treachery of Aketchi, events no one could have predicted. How strange , an African who was rejected for behaving like loyal Samurai.

@@Davidy37 It's your lineage that matters. The Japanese see themselves, literally, as one giant family. Every Japanese belongs to a clan, if that is understandable. Every one.
