    A hotel I stay at long-term very recently (2 days ago) replaced their units (place has been open just under 5 years) with newer ones of the same brand (Amana). Now it blows the curtain around (these are heavy ones) which makes a lot of noise and lets a lot of light in. It didn't do this before. I don't know if the dimensions of the unit are slightly different (maybe the vents are a little higher) or if the installation was sloppy. I will be bringing this up with the manager very soon. This seems like a point that should be considered in the installation, both height off the ground and clearance between the top of the vents and the curtains.

      Do the rooms feel colder/ more humid? I wonder if they went with units that are rated for bigger rooms? I feel fan speed on both would be the same though. Hard to tell without being there. You definitely should say something, sometimes it’s just a single room having an issue because of sloppy installation like you said

    Hey Paul, I have question. I just took a part-time job as a maintenance guy at a small assisted living community. The TPAC is how we cool and heat our individual resident rooms. My question is this: Is there a big difference in the dimensions of most TPAC units? I have several rooms under remodel and they won't be done until next Spring. If I need to replace one of the units in an occupied room, can I use a unit from a different manufacturer? It seems to me that the sleeve is rather universal and will accept just about any unit. We have a couple of different brand name units and I'd like to be able to exchange one for the other if needed. Thanks and great video by the way!!!

      Ive run into some size differences in the past so I try to stick to the same units per property or at least per side. For the annex we had to move some screw holes so we could use the extra boxes. The boxes are usually able to be manipulated to fit if a person needs to though. If the budget allows, replacing a unit isn't that bad.
      They are like $400 from ptacs 4 less if you don't mind rebuilt.

      I think we’ll see them a lot more in smaller units because of how efficient they are. Not the greatest at doing huge spaces. I’ve tested it lol

    Hi..question: for the heating option..when heat is coming out of the top vent, is a significant amount of cool air suppose to blow out of the middle and bottom of the unit?! I constantly have this unit running to warm up a living room in my new apartment. The middle of the room it’s warm but sitting anywhere near the unit it’s cold. And as soon as I turn off the unit. The room temp drops down so much and it’s coooold!! The floors and everything in the apartment feels like I had the AC on And my light bill is TRAGIC. Any suggestions please. I don’t even have an energy saver model. Management claims nothing is wrong with the model.

    • @TheUglyMotel

      I’ve had this happen before drove me nuts. 2 different things that seemed to help
      1) ensure the box itself is caulked inside and outside (shouldn’t be a gap between metal box and the siding or interior wall)
      2) ensure the box is actually screwed to Ptac and the gasket is intact
      3) maybe this is wrong but I’ve improved heat retention by increasing insulation between Ptac and the box. (Once with a piece of carpet padding) --just make sure your not putting anything near your heating element in a way that can cause a fire. Maybe consult Ptac Manufacturers about insulation.
      Hopefully this helps. Anyone else with feedback please feel free to comment.

    I am a property manager. One of my houses need extra HVAC for a 270 SF room. The construction is with studs and drywall with vinyl siding. How much would installing a new unit cost including any electrical work?

    Hey Guys. Great video! I have a sanyo ptac (STW0923H2P) that I'd like to replace with a newer, quieter one. I was thinking about a GE Zoneline, a Friedrich Zoneaire, or an Amana. Have you worked with any of these models? If the voltages match can I just pop the new one into the existing sleeve? Thanks

    • @TheUglyMotel
      @TheUglyMotel  3 года назад +1

      I like the LG and Amanas. I try to keep to the same brand incase something simple breaks I can swipe from another one I kept for parts. One of the biggest things is to know what size of room your ptac is rated for. I learned this the hard way when I assumed just getting over kill would be best. Unfortunately it means it will get down to temp faster and your room will be left humid or damp feeling. I would suggest calling ptacs for less and talking to the owner. He's a great guy and will answer just about any questions you have. He's saved me from having egg on my face before while getting me an awesome deal. Hope this helps.

    • @TheUglyMotel
      @TheUglyMotel  Год назад

      Depends on the Ptac amp requirements but these are 220V and 30 amp breakers. For gauge of wire I’d ask your electrician.

      We lucked out. The previous owner already had ptacs in his plan and already had electrical run. We have found alot of unfortunate handyman specials over the years but our Electrician praised how well the conduit and wire were run for the units.

      Not sure I can troubleshoot off this description but consider just replacing it with one from ptacs4less. If issue is more than just swapping out a spare piece, I've found it'd cheaper and more time efficient to just replace.

      Hey bud, I bought alot of them off a private seller but a couple years ago I found 240 units at ptacs4less.com. it makes a million times more sense to buy them for a 1/3 of the price. I bought my 110 units from aj Maddison out of New York. If you call in they give you a bulk discount
