- My build review of the Auracube 12x12x12 rgb led cube.
The cube has lots going for it. and in time im sure it will become a great cube. but as it stands it requires a lot of work, not just with the software / firmware. but also for the price i would expect much more in the way of quality to build it.
The cube quality itself, pcb, controller board and even leds are perfect. i had 3 failed leds out of 1700 which is not bad.
once built it is massive, and looks amazing. but its hard work getting there with the supplied parts. if you are thinking of purchasing this item, requests further sets of the printed parts.
if you have a 3d printer then the print stl files are available..

Cheers for the great review. I'm considering building one, you've given me a lot to think about.
I do have another to build, which i hope to do soon. This is to review some modified firmwares. The video doesn't do it justice. Its a lot of hard work, but worth it in the long run
@@cine-lights looking forward to that :D i have some nice code for a 9x9x9 cube. Building a 16x16x16 cube atm but progress is slow took like 80 hours for only bending and cutting the legs of the leds 😣
@@MaltWhiskey I fully understand that. my first 8x8 I bent every led prior to soldering, my second i didn't, the final project looked exactly the same... but t still took its time
I am currently building a 12x12x12 RGB Cube as well. I really know how much time and effort it taks to make a single one but develope a kit... respect!
Wieland B I will be building another one shortly.. it's took me longer to sort out the patterns/ animations than it did to build the cube. I've lost count how many cubes in total I've built now. But this version has recently had a firmware update so looking forward to seeing it.
That is an amazing looking big cube!
Well done on this complex build, i looked into doing one of these cubes myself but wouldnt have the patients for it so i bought a tittle cube
круто !!! Тоже соберу !!!! Сейчас закончил 8х8х8 RGB потренировался для более долгого и сложного
Здорово, даже не представляю какая это титаническая работа по пайке
Beautiful build. I also made one and as you experienced had to use multiple jigs. My jigs were not as finely finished as yours.
Your pictures show how the horizontal rails holding the LEDS can peel away the internal walls of the slot on the vertical rails preventing them from seating properly leading to a racked assembly. I can solder but not program could you please send me your animation? Thank you for posting this
Mark
Mark McDermott Hi Mark, most of my animations have been posted recently on Facebook, so you can grab them there also there is a new firmware released which deals with the speed issues found with the firmware animation, and gives better speed control of made ones
Thank You will download them!
awesome
Any idea where i can get a kit? Got the 8x8 but can´t find 12x12 anywhere to buy.
Hi Homian, sorry for the late reply. it has been a while since i had contact with the seller of this cube. the 8x8x8 is still on sale via other sellers. but the 12x12x12 is on the missing, i do personally have a 12x12x12 still to build, to try out some new firmware's. i heard a rumour that the seller would re-appear in 2022.. but i would not count on it... i will keep a look out and post any updates here
@@cine-lights Yeah, the ebayseller that sold me the 8x8 kit (170€), said he could get me a 12x12 for 500. From your videos i know there are 3 boards, but tripple the price for half more material is just too much. Especially since i saw "old" offers for the 12x12 around 300 bucks. For 500+ i´d expect something more in the region of 16x16. Maybe i´ll do another 8x8 since i found pliers that make a loop and cut in one step :) . But my endgoal for my cube soldering hobby would be a 16x16 RGB. Did some blue ones but going back to single color after doing RGB is not an option :D . Thanks for the reply, if you stumble over offers for a reasonable price, just ping me. Greetings Homian
Wow much respect!
Btw.. 1728 LED's can take up to 1728 * 0,06A = 103A, so isn't 15A really enough or am I wrong?
well the 8x8x8 comes with 512 rgb leds and runs fine on 5 amps even with full white selected. im not sure the total draw of the 1728 leds, but it runs fine in night light mode on full white. 103amps is a hell of a lot, so think a figure is wrong somewhere :)
Ye think the same.. thanks :D
Three colors per led say 0.02A per color => 3*0.02*12*12=8.64A for all the leds. Don’t forget only 1 of the 12 layers is active, it’s called multiplexing.
What controler bord
Can anyone tell me how to get this thing to load animations from the SD
card? My freezes when I push "0" on the remote. I know I have a valid
build and the MP is good as it loads the firmware demos just fine. There
are no useful instructions on the Google shared drive that I can find.
Very disappointing.
Did you use arduino?
If you have used it then it would have been more easier.....
hello how could you change the animation and display new?
Hi are you still available to help.I bought this from eBay 2 years back but no time to make.
Just need little information before I start.
how can i help ?
Thanks for your prompt reply
Are these common anode or cathode
@@cine-lights can you share your email please

Isnt easier use pixel led?
Hello I built this kit and as I am not able to program new animations, I'm looking for someone who have any other than the original ones and will agree to share them with me.

looks like cube from fortnite
Der Cube ist gut, die musik ist unerträglich scheiße!!
Well im sure it might not be to every ones taste, and i am also sure that your taste in music will also not be to every ones taste too...
