Yes - cleaning out old stuff every now and then is a good idea! Heightens the quality of the outcome for sure... and keeping stuff cool, dry and dark makes a big difference as well! Thanks for reminding me... doing some cleanout tomorrow morning!🤣🍻
Hi, could you please explain the chemical basis on which Campden tablets degrade? Is it that the sulfites gas off over time? I have no problem tossing out old ingredients if they do degrade over time, but the internet generally is polarised in relation to Campden tablets - either they "never go off" or "they only last a year". I'd appreciate an explanation of the chemistry behind the claim that they degrade as I have never seen this anywhere.
I agree 100 percent. thats why I get my grains cracked from the brew shop.Because I probably wouldn’t use a big bag of grain in time.
Fresh is best!

Have a sneaky beer or two while you are at it 🤣🍻
@@HomeBrewNetwork I´ll do my very best!😆
Oh no. Does that mean 'just send it' is in the bin too? Wink. 🤣 Great advice, great vid as always.
Anyone that says "just send it" shall be garrotted 🤣🤣🤣

Sulfites are oxidized into sulfates by contact with air. It's possible the form of a tablet protects the inside for longer, but how knows how long.
@@Zeemno Thanks - that is a very simple explanation.
yep enough said :) Cheers!
