HOAs should be made illegal. They have very little pros and a ton of cons. There is no reason for their to be an HOA anywhere as they have very little to no checks and balances. And they can make up a ton of rules that should not be a thing in the first place. Having a bunch of houses that look the same on the outside is a bad idea. People like to do their own thing to their house. Whether that be putting a basketball hoop up. Painting their house a weird color. Or putting up a fence. HOAs cost a decent amount of money and the homeowners don't get much in return since they have to deal with a bunch of nonsense rules. And when the HOA has to do something. It is like pulling teeth. They should be made illegal.
HOAs make sense for multi-family buildings and gated communities where there is inherent overlap between homeowner properties and/or extensive common areas. It's only when you're talking about neighborhood HOAs that create an area authority over completely standalone homes that there's no reason for them to exist.
No intelligent person would buy in an HOA. They always attract petty tyrants with small wee wees.

Never EVER buy a house in an HOA. You might get a good one, but a bad one can WRECK your life and peace.
To anyone who has a family member that wants to announce their, engagement or pregnancy at someone else's event. If they told you they're going to do it, then get on social media or family group text and tell everyone that before your wedding or baby shower. A douche move yes but, so is them doing something at your event. This works for gender reveals as well. Anything a relative threats to do on your day, just tell everyone, that you know and they know right away. This works every time, you might be seen as the bad guy but, they won't be spoiling your event.

THE HOA’s SHOULD BE MADE TO PAY THE AFFECTED PARTIES DOUBLE THE TOTAL OF THE FINES THEY LEVELLED AGAINST THE NON HOA MEMBERS AND AGRIVED MEMBERS
EG GIVE $10,000 fines
Pay the aggrieved party $20,000
If the HOA knows what they are doing is wrong and fraudulent and know that if it’s proved that they were issuing false finds it might put a break on their illegal activities
Even more so the lawyer should also be made to pay a hefty fine if it can be proved that the HOA was doing dishonest things and still went ahead fighting for them just because they were making more money defending their illegal actions

A friend of mine used to be a cargo pilot. His company used to buy them tickets to and from work. The good part was he got to keep all the miles. One day he was upgraded to first class due to his status. A senior captain on standby was coming onto the plane and saw my friend in uniform sitting in his seat. Captain went to my friend and demanded to know his hire date, because he was going to try and take my friend’s seat. My friend simply told him “none of your fucking business.” The captain stormed off the plane to speak to the gate agent. A little while later the captain came back onto the plane, after finding out my friend was a revenue passenger with status. The flight attendant would not let him back on the aircraft until he apologized to my friend.

Sorry but I worked in the Hospitality Industry for 20 years including a 503 room major casino hotel. Housekeeping does NOT contact anyone about items left in the room unless it is a firearm or illegal materials and then the police handle that. This is to prevent the exact thing that occurred in this story. You open yourself up to lots of legal liabilities.
If you don't live in the US, look up the prices for Epi pens in the US. Yeah. It's bad.

There is a financial incentive for developers to set up HOA's. However human nature being what it is petty, power mad ARSE HOLES are usually the only ones who seek positions on HOA boards. All HOA's should lapse after 5 years and become voluntary neighbourhood improvement groups.

The hand sanitizer story I'm leery of believing because most isopropyl alcohol which is not for consumption so if the OP of that story drank it they would have a worse issue than an allergic reaction.
People in my city sit on bences mixing hand sanitizer with water or whatever they have and drinking it trust me none of them are dead yet lol I've seem them slurp the sanitizer goop Off of the pump tube like it was some fucked up pudding hell I've seen people huffing hairspray or just spraying it into their throat I've seen people drink peroxide and mouth wash
I'm allergic to alcohol, doesn't matter what formulation. It's not as severe as OPs but if I drink ethyl alcohol I have the allergic response symptoms for 4 days or more afterward. I can only apply hand sanitizer, isopropyl alcohol, 2-3 times before I have to wash my hands with warm water and soap or I break out in an irritated rash that gradually gets worse until I wash it off. I have caught patients drinking mouthwash and aftershave before so it's possible.
