Hi David! I'm with you on not wanting to leave a comfortable chair sometimes :) This video is perfectly timed as I had a question for an update on the Keeper's Hive recently. Now I can send them here. I'm so behind, and mine is still in its box. Did it arrive painted, or did you paint it? I think that's the inventor's favorite color also. I'm so glad I spent my coffee break watching today, wishing you all the best with your bees :) Oh, regarding coffee time, I've always felt that having a student zoom past me with some skill or bit of knowledge that we've taught, and then watching them succeed, is exactly why I became a teacher :)
@Frederick Dunn , I have learned so so much from you and David , the both of you have helped me take that leap of faith and give beekeeping a shot , so to the both of you guys , thank yall so very much 🐝
Hi Fred, I picked up my keeper's hive at the bee expo, painted and ready to go. Thanks for watching my coffee time and indeed teaching others and watching them succeed is very rewarding.
Hey David love your videos..... But its a no from me on this hive. I do not see any advantage with this. I'm always willing to try something new but not this one, sorry.
Well Dave I got to be honest. This is my second year at keeping bees. I feel more like a bee haver rather than a bee keeper. I do love doing it so I will persevere lol.
I'm not a bee keeper yet, but I am looking at it. Looking at various considerations, diseases, infestations, hive types, queen identification, frame identification, and various other things. I live in the UK, but I am looking at moving to Thailand and starting it up when I get there. However, this means looking at the Asian honey bee and preventing the Asian hornet.
My name is Randell and I have a question, I have been keeping bees for about 4 years now the first year I was able to go from 1 hive to 3 hives. In my 2nd year we increased our hives to 5 but by fall of that year my hives started absconding one by one, so I started all over in the spring of my 3rd spring by the end of summer that hive absconded. Now I have no bees there is a lot of construction going on around me as a matter of fact their is a apartment complex being built right across the street from my property lots of heavy equipment running up and down my street all day could this be a factor as to why I can't keep bees any more Thank you for your help Randell Henderson Horses ass family farm and Apiary
I've had bees for 4 years . Last fall they had mites. I lost 2 out of 3 hives. I was very discouraged. I have 2 brothers that raise bees also. They didn't let me give up. 1 brother raises bees, the other brother raises queens so now my 1 hive has been made into 5 splits. I have seen queens hatch right in his hands. I've learned more after the mites than before. Thank you and Sheri for all the information you share. Love Coffee Time. 🌻🐝☕
The best way I've found to always be number one every day is to learn something I didn't know yesterday. Thanks to you and everyone like you. This is the reason we can all be winners every day. And it's funny that the people who are thought to be number one had to learn it from who? Ahhhh, another number one. Hmmmm, that makes for alot of number ones, even if that person never knowingly classified themselves as such. *One mentor does not make a master. Ps. Please repurpose all trophies.😊
I need one . I'm doing top bar hives now because I can't lift boxes since my failed back surgery. Just wondering. I'm in Wisconsin, wonder if bees would go in nuc supers for winter and what parts do you insulate?
DAVID GREAT VIDEO ON THE KEEPERS HIVE. Did you inspect the top part of the hive? I am very interested in this hive, what is your thoughts on the survival of the bees in the north using this hive? Would it be somewhat easy to insulate? I live in ORANGEVILLE NY, it's gets very cold here and winter can last 6+ months. I have to insulate my hives so the bees can make it through the winter.
Just getting started by accident as I bought property which had a hive in a shop wall which I know had been there at least 7 years and so far this spring they have swarmed 3 huge swarms . My question is do you manufacture any of your own hives . I love woodworking so I may try my hand at building my own hives and may have some questions along the way . I live in northern Indiana and am retired .
In my younger days… like yesterday! lol! I was also very competitive. I was good at some things and just was so bad at other stuff. But… now. To be honest. I’m at the age I’m so glad someone else or other people took the mountain. I got tired of being noticed. Now, I just want to walk in the back ground and blend. Not lead. I just like working my bees. Work my very small farm. Yes, there are times it takes a lot of strength on my part to keep myself happy with the small things in life. But I like to wave at those moments in my life as I keep on walking by. Lol!
I thought I made it up, but it's a real word: troublematic it's a combo of problematic but starts out with a sense of something troubling and/or traumatic. so it means psychologically and emotionally problematic.
Thanks you for your service 🫡. What you spent.. & you share is a saving to all of us. Time & $$$. We have to thanks Shery behind every great man is a greatest woman… l😂🎉
I callled it my adventure in beekeeping. I had a hive last year that had EFB. I managed to overcome that and the hive was weakened enough that ants overtook and killed the bees. I then replaced them with a nuc. that one had a drone layer queen. I can definately say one thing. when you have adventures like that, you learn pretty quickly.
@@beek Both hives were textbook. One textbook good, lots of eggs, brood and I saw the queen. The other wrong, massive amounts of wonky comb. I did not see, eggs, brood or the queen.
You should only measure yourself to yourself in the past. Are you better than you were last year or have you fallen off a bit. Then decide what to do to improve yourself in the future.
Turns out it's a real word: troublematic it's a combo of problematic but starts out with a sense of something troubling and/or traumatic. so it means psychologically and emotionally problematic.
My dad is a P.E teacher and whenever Olympics would come around, he's always looking at statistics how many of our athletes have done around personal best time/score/points. He knows we can't win every game (we're a small counry anyway), but trying our best is something we can all do. 😊
6th year for me. I was really sick for about a month and didn't get out to see my bees. Finally got out there a couple of days ago and I've got 2 hives with zero brood or eggs but lots of nectar and some pollen. So, I'm thinking there are 3 things that could cause this. 1. virgin queens. I have seen the queens and they are light, look like they could fly. 2. failing queen but the queens don''t have the short wings and they don't look old. 3. no pollen and they are eating the brood. So, my plan is to give them both pollen patties and give them about a week to get mated and see what I get in about 10 days. If still no brood, I'm gonna have to requeen the hives. I really hate pinching a queen. If I have to, it will be a sad day. I think I'm covering all of the bases to give them success. I really think they are unmated. Sound like a plan?

David, this is my 1st year of beekeeping and your videos are so great to watch! Looking forward to taking some of your online courses! Thanks David!
Nice! Thanks so much for watching. I hope your first year gets off to a great start!
@beek so far so good! 2 full hives and I have 2 swarm traps currently with catches!

What wonderful energy! Amazing attitude and emotional connection. First bee video I’ve ever watched-compelling.
Thanks and thank you for subscribing. Glad you liked it.
Question: dark green being a color that gets really hot! Isn’t that going to pose a problem?
Great question for my livestream this Thursday at 7pm central time. Here's the link: ruclips.net/user/livegccWHkEDuOQ
I'm not seeing that advantage of this hive.

I bought one of the keepers hive! I can't wait until it gets here
you can experiment with that hive; I see no value for me! 🤨

Glad you like them!
Take the queen excluder out once the nuc is full of brood pull another frame of brood up to the next nuc … split after split after split …
Hi David, where do you get the gloves you have on?
The yellow ones are from Amazon and the blue ones from Mann Lake

Might have to replace my queen this weekend, as a first time bee keeper I wasnt expecting this problem so early. Is it weird that a feel bad about it?
No. You care and there is everything right about that.
Troublematic
That's what I thought I heard.
Wait, have to go get my coffee before I watch this. Will let you know when I get back.

So maybe instead of burning it if you don't like it you can give it to someone and maybe they would like it
Use ground cinnamon doesn't hurt anything but ants stay away
