Earl Hindman was the actor from Home Improvement who played Wilson, Tim Taylor's wise neighbor whose face was never fully shown. He died in 2003 of lung cancer.
By the way, I clearly remember seeing "Mrs. Doubtfire" on opening night back in the winter of '93. My family had moved back to Virginia from NY and were having a fun night out. These commercials bring back lovely memories, thanks for sharing them!
@Nikelea I totally remember both Ames and Rose's. I used to LOVE going into my local Rose's in Virginia Beach, VA circa early to mid 90's. The shelves were always wooden and dusty and looking like it had been frozen in time in 1955. Walmart really is edging out many of the older stores people grew up with.
120$, AND you get Mario Allstars? That's a good deal. Allstars was probably 50-60$ on its own. Speaking of Mario Allstars, about 8 days after this was taped, I would have been unwrapping that game. My school's Christmas Pageant was around this time too. I remember spending hours in my room reciting lines. Thought that play would never come, and here I am, 18 years later. It sure came and went. Man... What a flashback.
I live on the east coast and in my area I haven't seen Ames in a while but there is one or two Roses stores hanging on. And just as many Kmarts as Walmarts, but that's changing quick. Walmart really is talking over.
Omg. I remember that ad for the SNES, because that was ALL I WANTED FOR CHRISTMAS that year. Unfortunately, my parents didn't want us having video games (but we had a PC with Doom and Duke Nukem II on it, and later had Quake, Hexen, and Duke Nukem 3D, makes total sense) so I didn't get it, and my neighbors did along with the coupon for the free Mario All-Stars. Yup, I was jealous, and yes, I still slightly resent my parents for it.
About Penney's, I TOTALLY agree about their commercials and for me, even the store itself, reminding me of the 90's! Perhaps, that's because I used to shop there with my family much more frequently back in the 90's than I do now. But today, when I step into a JCPenney's, for some reason, I always feel a rush of 90's nostalgia, LOL. Weird, huh? ;-)
Me too! One time though I got sick from a piece of old candy when I was little. Needless to say we stopped doing that. But we went there for other things. I'm from Hampton Roads too retrogems! Do you remember Drug Emporium?
Yes! I think I remember that place vaguely. Do you remember McCrory's drug stores? It was a five and dime store almost exactly like Woolworth's, and up until the mid 90's, there was one at the Military Circle Mall at Janaf. Also, there were all of the stores at Wards Corner, including the old People's Drug Store. And I don't mean to get off subject of the drug stores, but do you remember the old Tracks store at Wards Corner that sold LP's and tapes? (I'm really dating myself here, LOL)
No...they closed all of their stores in 2009 following several bankruptcy filings and store closures. The KB toys name and brand is now owned by Toys R Us.
im looking for that movie aswell. some guy had it on ioffer.com i sent him a offer he never responded and than a couple of days later after my offer expired i checked again and the movie was no longer listed. I really want to watch that movie i guess ill ask Henry Winkler tomorrow when i meet him
I remember that one mall in my childhood hometown had Toy Fair, and another had Toys by Rizzi. Both stores later became Kay-Bee (later spelled KB) Toys. I guess that dates me a bit! :-)
It's kinda ironic that we have a woman in the Kmart commercial rips a joke involving her husband cooking and a smoke alarm only to have a commercial later on telling us to replace the batteries in our smoke alarms.
mmm...Tim Curry=best part of 3 Musketeers. ;) There's still a Kmart in a mall where I live. LOL! The way the guy tumbled over in the first Energizer commercial!..but that second Energizer commercial is an eye opener! Scary! The 1st 2 Beethovens were the only good ones. I remembered my dad renting Mrs. Doubtfire when it first came out on video. RIP John Ritter and Earl Hindman. :(
@dav1dhoang Two things. One: the commercial is advertising a SNES (Super Nintendo). Two: the "buy one for $5" thing is only true if the person selling it is a moron. The bundle depicted in the commercial with the console, two controllers, and one game (With a coupon for another) is worth way more than $5. Nintendo manufactured (Not knock-off) SNES controllers alone go for more than that on eBay.
I had no opinions of st. bernard's I saw beethoven then I thought they were kinda lovable... then I saw cujoe now I am terrified by them seriously what was up with that dog???
No shout-out for Rip Torn as the evil battery exec? The only movie advertised here I haven't ever seen is Beethoven. Musketeers was entertaining, as I recall, and Geronimo was dull. I liked Doubtfire back then, but saw it a couple of years ago and was disappointed that it didn't hold up. Geez, those K-Mart ads are annoying. Henry Winkler: He's very good as Barry Zuckerkorn. I don't quite see him as a psycho killer though. Honestly, John Ritter would have been more believable.
That is one epic wall of JCPenney towels.
Also John Ritter and Henry Winkler? Epic casting!!!!

Grandpa Simpson would be totally psyched for that Matlock movie.
I hella remember that 3 muskateer commercial..I use to think the end were he cuts the rope was so funny as a kid..it still is haha

i miss the days when the casts of your fave shows would wish you happy holidays.
that Penney's ad is a great one
Ha! We get a better look at Wilson's honest, homely face as it's only barely obscured by the reindeer's antlers. RIP Earl Hindman.

Is that Amanda Peet in the Ford Explorer commercial?

i remember boy meets world being on in the early 2000's. ah good times.

There's a Kmart in my town
@cheffy84 I see ads for K-Mart all the time on TV, even though there are none here in the Dallas/Fort Worth area.

"He doesn't know his muffins are done until the smoke alarm goes off" and i thought i was a bad cook
@80sCommercialVault If you still haven't seen The Three Musketeers, I recommend that you do.
Me too! One time though I got sick from a piece of old candy when I was little. Needless to say we stopped doing that. But we went there for other things. I'm from Hampton Roads too retrogems! Do you remember Drug Emporium?

ugh! where can i find the only way out
"The only way out" looks so hilariously bad, I need to see it.
2:48 Well.. That's a scary way to sell batteries.
I mean they had a good point there
Energizer I mean had a good point in the psa about fire safety. Fire Kills did their own take on the psa/pif
I want to see The Only Way Out! That phone scene reminds me of Henry Winkler's phone scene in The Waterboy.
It's not actually out of business. There's a store one town over from where I live.
No...they closed all of their stores in 2009 following several bankruptcy filings and store closures. The KB toys name and brand is now owned by Toys R Us.
80sCommercialVault and now Toys R Us doesnt exist
super nintendo was only 119.99!! wow.. that takes me back
im looking for that movie aswell. some guy had it on ioffer.com i sent him a offer he never responded and than a couple of days later after my offer expired i checked again and the movie was no longer listed. I really want to watch that movie i guess ill ask Henry Winkler tomorrow when i meet him

That's coincidence, not irony.
+80sCommercialVault Oh right. My bad.

@darksilverdreams We have one Kmart in Memphis and 5 Super Walmarts. Maybe the ratio is stronger in Walmart's favor.
4:20 Beethoven's 2nd! :D @CoffieDog's favorite movie! =^)

Tim Curry in The Three Muskateers for the win
Does anyone know where I can watch the only way out? I really want to see it!
I kinda want that coupon for the Marreo Allstars

@mst3kanita His first name is Abraham, I think.

A lady in a wheelchair.
