How to spot a fake Sega Mega Drive or Genesis game

I got stung when I thought I was buying a real Mega Drive cartridge and it turned out to be a repro. Obviously checking inside the cartridge is the best way to be absolutely sure, but if you haven't got the time to do that, here are some things you can look for.

Lack of dust is meaningless, since, you know, people tend to clean things before they sell them... The other indications are useful, ofc.

??? What are you even talking about. These fakes shouldn't exist, because they're sold as real, there is no Robin Hood going on here, there's scammers and getting scammed. No wealth is being redistributed to poorer folk

I bought it on the offchance it was one of the rare copies with Thriller on the soundtrack, as I could have made a very nice profit if it did. When it didn’t, I tried to sell it to a second hand shop, which they refused after opening the cartridge. And then I looked at all of it and realised I should have known better!
