This is a fabulous technique. The house we bought had this done to the kitchen cupboards and all the trim in the dining room. Gorgeous I must say. Now I have to try and match the wood as I have a repair to make. I think it's close to a pecan stain color. Thanks for a great video!

I also use to use the rolled tape method on the back of my ruler, but frustration forced me to try gluing strips of that waffly foam netting sheets that people use for shelf liners and under rugs to prevent slipping. Or you could apply it with double sided tape, so you can replace as needed. This works great for preventing that dreaded ruler shifting.

I seal the MDF with shellac before painting. Putting acrylic paint on MDF will cause the MDF fibers to fur up. Water on wood causes wood to swell. Like the idea of scoring the wood to look like grooves.
one question. Why not do the scoring after you paint the base coat you stated that you want the scores free of paint that wouldn't that save you a couple steps?
I'm sure it would be cheaper to do this yourself than spending the $12 per (smaller) sheet. Each room would take two to three sheets if purchased. However, by making the wood the length and width to begin would be easier to a point. If you like doing this stuff; which I do.
Good work but, OMG the amount of time needed to enough pieces for a full 200 to 400 sq floor would make it cheaper to purchase the real thing IMHO. I give you credit I would never have the time or the patience to attempt a project like that. Sincerely it looks great!
