Brittany saying AO3 is for adults is so fucking true. It really is the professional league. AO3 authors deadass got mortgages and kids. They are so serious about their writing. I’ve read some of the most emotionally damaging media of my life there. And it’s endless. So many stories on AO3 have over 1 million words. It’s insane.
And Ao3 fics are like goddamn novels. Like- I just read a Leon S. Kennedy x Chris Redfield fic that was like 200,000 words and it's the most beautiful and tragic thing I have ever read. (I'm a gay trans man. Just clarifying because I know there are a lot of cis women that read gay fanfiction.)

No girl Wattpad 2022 is a completely different thing now. The authors on there are legit better than most NY times best selling authors. There’s obviously still a lot of those old Wattpad stories that was very poorly written by some 14 year old 7 years ago, but the content being produced today is on a whole new level.

The thing I like about Wattpad is how it’s so easy to find tons of stories being recommended to you but ao3 you have to go DIGGING to find something you want

REALLY?? I find the tagging and search system on ao3 to be SO much more intuitive, like the ability to exclude certain tags, search multiple tags, key word searches, tags that mean the same thing being consolidated (i.e. character x reader all being filed under character/you so that it all comes up under one search regardless of which tag you type in), sorting by word count or hits or kudos or date, etc. Is something I find sorely lacking on ANY other fic platform. I don't even know how to get everything from a specific tag to come up on wattpad, it seems to just default to showing the most popular ones???
i had to stop reading fanfiction after i read one that sent me into a depressive spiral for weeks. it emotionally destroyed me. i could barely read my screen during half of the fic bc there were so many tears in my eyes. my life was permanently altered by that fic and i haven't read any fanfic since 😭

This video inspired me to go back and read my Walking Dead Wattpad fanfiction from 8th and 9th grade. It was excruciating. I've since graduated to AO3 where I currently have 10 works I'm very proud of. We all had to start on Wattpad as 12 year olds, though. No glow up without humble beginnings.
