Fun Fact - way later in the game there is an optional Quest that shows that the people of Eorzea themselves have no idea how some Animals are able to fly and scientists are on it to one day find out
@@patyos2 Some mount descriptions even mention, directly or not, how they fly by using Wind Aether, which Aether Currents definitely fall under. It's glorious, especially since this means that bears, gorillas, wolves, elephants, boars, cats, dogs, and even *chairs and beds* can fly. Then there is the Fat Chocobos, who defy physics for cake, it seems.
It's the custom delivery in Labyrinthos. It is canon now that a group of Sharlyan scientists are investigating why animals with no wings can fly, and yes it is hilarious because they detail cats or something like that just floating around as if you haven't been seeing that shit firsthand for four whole expansions.
I thought the lore was just that if you fully attune to the aether currents in an area, any of your mounts are able to fly! Doesn’t make much sense though because shouldn’t we, too, just be able to fly then? It’s a really funny concept.
"papameow" actually had me rolling because it took me a second to realize you meant "papalymo" it's such a great half-remembered name and i love it. if it helps any, i've been playing for nearly 4 years and frequently forget he ever existed. not that he's a bad character, he's just underutilized. And a fun fact about flying mounts! Used to be only specific mounts could fly, things with wings that it made logical sense could fly, but the devs realized that was annoying and changed it so everything can fly.
Something you might not have noticed is if you have a sprout in your party, you get bonus loot. The devs really lined things up to make sure new players feel welcomed and it really sets the tone for a friendly, positive community :)
Oh yeah, it's honestly really nice. Sure, the bonuses aren't really a huge deal or anything, but it is a nice incentive to make dungeons go from "Oh god, time to baby some newbies" to being more like "Oh hey, I'll get rewarded for helping a new person clear this!"
Admittedly, and you will hear it a lot because it's true, the story picks up a lot towards the end of the initial release game that you are in. Come the Heavensward expansion the game sees an overhaul in the voice acting both in quantity and quality, the story picks up significantly, way more to do, more 8 and 24 person activities, even more jobs to play, etc. I've been playing since 2021 and I'm still doing new content and love it. Glad you're loving the game.
I didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I have. Legitimately it has been a Damm good time. I also have heard alot that it's better as the story progresses so that's something tk look forward to
@@deadmeat53 I agree. He will laugh constantly at Hildi's stupidity and antics. And those quest unlock certain Trials he wouldn't get access to in any other way.
19:00 this keeps happening to you specifically because you're in a party with someone in the same area. Enemies start linking together when you're no longer playing solo. Summoning your chocobo companion (which you don't have yet) also counts as not being solo.
Technically, if you're far above them in level they'll also link together, but in this case that just means that Dad was getting four or five rather than just two at a time. For the highbie, it's still absolutely trivial... IF they're the one actually taking the aggro.
When you mentioned you noticed how 'quickly' you seemed to became a 'hero' already, actually it used to take longer or there used to be more quests in early MSQ within the City-states, especially before you become emissary, but I guess people were complaining about how MSQ was 'too long' so around 5.3 patch they cut out some quests I myself started in Gridania before the patch and was planning on trying out the other City-states but took too long and it was cut before I got the chance *sob*
Sometimes the opposite happens too. You're the defender of the realm, a legend to walk amongst the people of Eorzea, but NPCs still make you their personal courier lmao
Gotta love how your friend (hopefully unknowingly) trolled you by joining your party as a high level class. Which then ramps up your group level and weaker monsters then also team up as a challenge mechanic. As such, if G'alactica had not been in your group you would not have pulled all those mobs as a group and wouldn't have died. 😅You usually only pull one mob if they are the same level as you.
@@GalacticW I learned this the hard way when a friend of mine got eviscerated 3 times in a row in central shroud by a giant bird that jumped down a cliff to get to them
FATES used to be so great when there were large crowds of players all on the same content. It made leveling so dynamic, as you would constantly be switching between MSQ, and hunting down FATES that either crossed your path, or were high reward. Large groups clearing FATES is something I really miss from the ARR era
@@CaffeinatedDad yes and know...starting in shadowbringers they introduced the shared fate system which incentivizes doing them at the begining of an expansion but once everyone has maxed out the rank in each zone there is not much reason to do them after that because there are better ways to level up
@@CaffeinatedDad They never stopped making FATEs, and they actually have gone out of their way to give more incentives to actually do them. Later expansions are more likely to have people doing FATEs in their zones. That being said, they're still not super popular and you're not likely to find a big group of people doing them unless they're trying to get one of the rare Achievement FATEs to spawn.
Kan-E-Senna is a padjal, a very rare race of goat horned ageless beings who are only born from other races when the Elementals decide to make that happen. Padjals serve as spiritual leaders of gridania, communicate with the Elementals, and are also the guardians of White Magic, which is considered just as dangerous as Black Magic
I'm sure someone told you already but basically all you did in Limsa before becoming an envoy is specific to starting in that city. If you start in Gridania Y'Shtola is replaced by Papalymo and Ilda while in Uldah you get to meet Thankred instead. I'm glad you got a kick out of how goofy and cheesy the beginning of the game is because that's supposed to be the part that makes people quit early.
This was an absolute joy to watch! I really love your take on the game so far and am very much hoping you continue along. It's a long journey, but one that is absolutely worth taking.
6:26 It's basically a visual novel with combat using long form storytelling as the backbone of the MSQ. I would embrace it if you're to get into the game. You can teleport to any of those giant crystals from anywhere, and each city has an internal crystal network (aethernet?) to teleport around within them to significant locations. Take your time through the game, and find when you can do raids, which are also linked to the story though optional.
@@CaffeinatedDad see if you are ready for Binding Coils of Bahamut. If you can get something close to blind that would be a great experience and video from you.
all the mounts fly bc back in the day they didn't, only mounts for whom it made sense to fly could fly, which also meant if your favourite mount was like, a horse or something you could go pound sand bc it couldn't fly and it sucked 💀 also some mounts that SHOULD have been able to fly for some reason couldn't, like the swing that was suspended with balloons. anyway they made it so all mounts could fly even though sometimes it's silly
@@CaffeinatedDadthey attempt to explain it by saying it can fly because you've "attuned to the aetherial winds" in an area. But it really just isn't worth thinking too hard about.
Heads up: The Further you get into the game, the more (and better) Voice Acting the game provides! By the time you are in Endwalker, it has 16 HOURS of Voiced Cutscenes in the Base Expansion alone! I believe Excluding the Raids & Side Content, there is about 70 Hours of Voiced Cutscenes alone in the MSQ up to 6.55.
i'm glad to hear you're enjoying it! new players are always fun to see experiencing the game, and it's always funny to see their perspective on things; i hope you keep progressing and enjoying it! as a note, as you get higher levels and unlock more dungeons, you're able to replay dungeons unsynced which lets you play through dungeons without being level synced which lets you farm trials and such for mounts later on once you unlock them. it's worth doing with friends, i find. lot of fun.
Koji fox is a legend for his translations that he put in the game. Theres too many times to count that ive busted out laughing at the puns he puts in XD
@@AuroDHikoshi The punnery that goes on in quest and FATE names never ceases to amuse me. They're not all thigh-slappers but they're *pretty* consistently amusing.
If you flat out don't like FFXIV, I actually wouldn't recommend continuing, but if it's at least tolerable then keep giving it a try! Even today, the base game is a real patchwork; classes and their jobs for example started life as either playing the base version and having access to more abilities from other classes or playing the (flat out better) advanced version with less "cross-class" access. Now it's basically vestigial, but it's still here because mechanically and lore-wise it's part of the foundation
Even on the free trial, there's a TON of great story and group content available. If you're already into the story thus far, you are in for a TREAT. It literally only gets better and better. Regularly regarded as some of the best writing in any game, mmo or not.

@@CaffeinatedDad It's very satisfying! I came off a couple of MMOs where the differences between jobs were fairly minimal and having my healer actually BE A HEALER is just the best feeling!

@@CaffeinatedDad the FF14 community loves new player reactions to the story it will get some traction but be aware that most won’t stay once you are done with the story if you decide to stay that long. But I hope you have a fun experience nonetheless
@@CaffeinatedDadI'm sure it will, your general innocence of the final fantasy universe and unique take on the story will definitely grab the attention of people.
experience was harder to come by back when the game launched, and the story is paced to match that. Getting to level 15 and related quests took a lot longer, and involved clearing out at least half the sidequests on a given map in order to hit the required level-- and that's even when taking into account the higher number of quests the base game used to have. That's why they treat you like a hero-- at that point in the OG game you'd have been going out of your way to help and protect the populace for a significant amount of time; you'd be popular.
I started back in September. I'm now about to start EndWalker. 355 hours so far. This game is easily one of my favorite of all time as of now. And probably has my favorite story of the series. Also RIP papa meow. Those who know, well.... Know lol
I clicked on this video randomly, and the whiplash I had seeing G'alactic show up made me pay 10x more attention lmao (We're friends in game!!) Glad to see you're enjoying this game so far!!! Definitely gonna keep an eye out and follow your journey!
2 things. 1: there is a flying pig mount, unfortunately its in shadow bringer and not part of the trial. 2: Learning skills. They have gona back and forward with learning skills . For marauder and all other base classes you learn them as you level to 50. But jobs (Warrior, white mage etc) only learn skills through the job quests from 30 -70. After that they just learn them from leveling up. So after 30 you really want to keep up with the job quests as you level.
About character creation affecting the story. There are tiny changes in dialogue sometimes depending on race and gender, and the class you pick decides your starting town. The rest is completely irrelevant to the story and only there for looks and RP. The guardian deity used to give you elemental stat buffs, but elemental damage was removed a few years ago so now it's just for RP purposes. So people can just go with whatever they like best. (Technically there are miniscule stat differences between races but they basically only effect .01% of your DPS at higher levels at most and if you really really want to you can adjust your BIS to mitigate the racial stat differences)
I’m a veteran player from 1.0 beta and absolutely love watching new players give 14 a go. Stay on the free trail for as long as you can muster but honestly, i love the way new players pronounce things. 😂 genuinely gives me a giggle. Enjoy the game and welcome to Eorzea
12:59 Fun fact: G'alactica was responsible for your aggro problem. They were linked because you were in the same party and normally they don't aggro at level 1 but because G'alactica was 90, you got additional mobs. 19:09 Again, G'alactica's fault for screwing you over. 21:03 I'm suprised you didn't get a lift from G'alactica -- there are mounts that allow 2, 4 and 8 people
Glad you picked Limsa first. I love ybr opening dialog at the Adventure's guild. Another popular kone you miss out on is if you start in Ul'Dah. An NPC asks you to give out cookies to some bored and tired soldiers who are stationed nearby on lookout. And the NPC thanks you and exolaons the best purpose of your task, "i find a nice treat helps a lot when you want to kill yourself." Or something along those.lones.
Hyur is pronunced H-Yur, very little emphasis on the H more on the Yur Example sentences: My friend is a Hyur/I know a good Hyuran blacksmith Also Yshtola is pronounced Yish-Tole-Ah (long vowel O sound in the 2nd syllable)
"Every mount can fly." The best mount by far, in my opinion, is the fat chocobo. It's a, well... a fat chocobo. You ride on its back and control where it goes by dangling a cabbage from a string in front of its face. Once you gain the ability to fly, though, you get it to fly (with its little tiny wings) by replacing the cabbage with a piece of cake.
I just recently started this game again and man this gave me such a good laugh when I realize how goofy stuff can be in this game thanks for the good laugh man hope you're still playing!
I've played this game for a while but now anytime Y'stola start spouting exposition at me it will now be "saying tea and crumpets things". Thank you sir , you just made this game better. 😆
The thing about the FFXIV story is that since it has a main story that you HAVE to go through and it is heavily produced it drops the "you're a nobody in this world wander around" shtick almost immediately, because having 10 hours of cinematics where you're constantly referred as noone would be incredibly boring. Other MMOs can afford that because their stories are mostly in the form of short adventures contained within zones/expansions, FFXIV truly tries to make the whole MSQ from the first expansion to the last one continuous thread. Of course you don't do the same thing the whole time, but when you go from a continent to another, from a city to a dungeon, it constantly tries to link things logically instead of WoWesque "you're done with the barrens go to ashenvale now" thing The feeling of being a "nobody" though is created in the side quests, the yellow quests are 100% purely optional and there's hundreds if not thousands of them, and most are simple tasks or simpler adventures for a "nobody". It makes sense too, the Warrior of Light is incredibly important to Eorzea, so all the major players of the world like city leaders, guild leaders, higher ups... would know who you are, so you get recognition fast, but normal people, just everyday citizens don't recognize you so they just offer you regular jobs Realm Reborn also already has a LOT to set up, it doesn't matter if Burning Crusade didn't setup much because once you're in Wrath of the Lich King, you can forget about BC and you'll be fine. But, wanting to write a cohesive story, elements introduced in Realm Reborn are brought up much later, sometimes multiple expansions after the fact, of course it uses flashbacks and/or npcs to make you remember, but it still puts a lot of pressure on Realm Reborn to introduce all the key elements of the world AND the story AND the mechanics of the game while being enjoyable and appealing to new players. Since Realm Reborn has all that setup work to do, for players already familiar with Final Fantasy, or MMOs it can feel like a slog (ugh I know what Ifrit is just move on) (ugh I know what a tank is just move on) but obviously not everyone is familiar with everything so they have to be introduced at some point You often hear that the story picks up at the end of Realm Reborn / at the start of Heavensward, and it's true, but it's able to pick up because Realm Reborn has done all of the legwork of trying to catch everyone up with almost everything and now the game can just flex its creative and story muscles at you confident that if you paid attention, you'll have a good time
Love the view of a sprout's expierence like this! The mispronounciations are having me in stitches! I've been playing 2015 so it's nice to see the changes made to MSQ in ARR since then. You will eventually get the ability to ride a mount yourself, also like a typical JRPG you were essentially in the tutorial phase of the game until you finished the first 3 dungeons. So you'll find that it will start being more interesting! Also I suggest going to Western Thanalan to unlock Glamour if you haven't already.
Originally, they had separate categories for flying and non-flying mounts. But then they realized nobody ever used the non-flying mounts, so they just made all of them fly.
Right. A few things-you will be considered a sprout until you reach the current expansion (it’s actually current expansion + 200 hours, but it takes well over 200 hours of playtime to reach the current expansion unless you buy a story skip; people can actually tell if you bought a story skip because you would have a sprout symbol on current expansion content). Second-the vast majority of dungeons (and trials, which are boss fights) are tied to the main story quest. There are some that are not, which are all technically optional but even some of the technically optional dungeons are important for game progression reasons. During the postgames of ARR and each expansion, there are several TRULY optional dungeons. The truly optional dungeons in the ARR postgame have some of the most unique boss mechanics in the entire game; the developers were experimenting a bit when they drew up the dungeons, and unlike the required dungeons, the optional dungeons were never revamped to match current dungeon design. Third-if you’re running dungeons for the first time (or even the first time on a given class/job/role), let the rest of your party know. They’ll usually be extremely willing to give you pointers on boss mechanics and/or job mechanics.
9:00 Lol gotta love the friends that stalk you and fly around to follow you as you do your MSQ. I do it to my friends too and now fly them around when needed with the FFXV car mount.
Not related to the story but just wanted to share some knowledge as a sea-faring girl! Dry docks are where you remove boats from the water and complete repairs (or weatherize/winter storage, where applicable). They are dry purposefully. It seems really strange I know but they have an essential purpose. :)
So cool to see someone else's first steps through FF14. Makes me feel super nostalgic lol. Trust me, you'll love this game! And if laughs are what you're after, just wait until you get some of the later quests. The Manderville quest line is an absolute treat lol.
Glad you liked it! Come swing on by Balmung sometime. Limsa is... different. 8:30 Really nailed it about the accent. 13:40 Should see Ninja sprint :D 14:20
It's fun to watch this. I started this game 3 days ago. I've chosen an archer as I do enjoy playing support classes. It's been such a unique experience so far. I'm completely loving it! Plus I like how I don't have to create a separate character and that everything can be done on one. I've come from GW2, SWTOR and LOTRO (LOTRO I think is a similar journey). This Is just a breath of fresh air. The content is really enjoyable and it's a lot of fun to just explore and experience. I've never been a Final Fantasy fan, I've played a couple of the games in the past but I think I'll have to take a further look into the franchise. Great music too 😊
Race pronunciations if you care to know them: 1) HYUR! (exactly as it's written, but you gotta shout it!) 2) Elezen, pretty much as written on the tin 3) lah-lah-fell, again pretty much as written on the tin 4) me-co-tay 5) row-guh-den 6) awe-rah But, of course, Final Fantasy 14 is all about having fun your way, so if you want to pronounce them however you want, go for it! Good video.
13:58 Pretty sure the mounts used to be separated into flying and non-flying but they changed it to have them all be able to fly for player convenience.
If you want funny and relaxed experiance you made the perfect choice in marauder. Their quest line is insanely funny and its the most chill tank in the game. Few fun facts/tips: - basically every Roegadyn name is a pun or joke and weirdly easier to read if you have dyslexia - teleporting is expensive at the start, but becomes cheap very quickly (plus you dont need gil for much during leveling or at all if you willing to craft), you can also take ships between maps not only taxi chocobos - Mamool Ja are chameleon people, Sahagin are fish people - you have found HUD layout options but bunch of HUD options are hidden in settings, you can hide empty slots on hot bars or the arrows for switching hotbars, make nameplates display differently based on instance/group/combat, displaying job icons on plates, colors based on roles... there is a lot of customization you can do (sadly) hidden like 15 menus deep into settings gl hf
Oh it's really nice to see you giving this game a try, the story in Realm Reborn is actually just a lot of information about the world and a big build up for the long "acutel story" to come, unfortunately it might not keep you on the same level of entertainment of you start skipping, but just know that these are 10+ years old writing, and the newer expansions are much much well made and written. I hope to see more of your journey, and I hope you fully enjoy it as well!
5:28 this is true for everyone... but Arcanist (the summoner class) can split off into a healer class later on, though it still has summoner for a dps option. ALSO you can get items to change looks. You get a free one at some point in the realm reborn post 2.0 story quests (or maybe the last quest of 2.0), which are needed to be done to start the next expansion (anything past x.0 is mostly setting up next expansion. RR just take a loooong because of how many things are set up. Payoff is worth though)
Welcome to Final Fantasy XIV ^^ There's a lot of things I could comment and say about your experience, my experience, and everything in between, but I wi ll only say this: If you are having fun, the game is doing its job, because that is what a game should be all about: Having fun. So, I hope you keep playing Final Fantasy XIV, as the game is pretty good in my opinion, but most importantly, I hope you keep having fun XD
The overworld enemies are ganging up on you because you're in a party with a higher level player! They start doing that when someone, you or another player, in the party exceeds their levels by a certain amount
This video was hilarous, and I loved it! Something that might not have been noted. The reason that high lvl mob aggroed you was because you were in a group with your high lvl friend. If you're higher level than the mobs, they'll start linking together. If you were solo, they wouldn't link.
Also, all mounts can fly, because Square Enix doesn't want you to have to shelf "beloved" mounts, because they can't fly. Warcraft had a problem like this with a lot of people's favorite mounts being ground only, like the Spectral Tiger. I have noticed that a lot of the newer mounts, like the Valetine's day one gives them wings and allows them to fly. It's a nice QoL touch. Another example of Square's silly QoL is that there's no breath meter for swimming. If you're diving underwater, you simply breathe through magical means. So it's impossible to drown outside of combat mechanics.
Watching you aggro the whole pirate camp because your friend was in your party, but not helping was either intentional trolling, or incompetence, lol. Again, they wouldn't have aggroed if he wasn't literally in your party. Him being in your group is intentionally making combat more challenging.
Glad to hear you enjoyed yourself! I found it a perfectly serviceable MMO when I started and had a lot of fun. It also has the best crafting system I've ever seen in an MMO. Using the same multi-class job system for crafting is fantastic; you get gear and stats for crafting and gathering, there's a decent little mini-game for crafting, and it allows quests to give crafting XP so it's not just "Buy a stack of copper and make 50 useless belts". The crafting gear is also completely competitive with end-game progression gear, giving people options for end-game content.
You're forgetting the MOST vital part about crafting my good sir or madam. That which is a pillar of this game, one that is so important the game might well not survive. You have forgotten about the FASHION!!! ...and all the furniture for housing I guess, but regardless!
@@davidcollins9213 True, but honestly, the number of non-progression rewards in the game is a major part of keeping old content relevant. Fashion, furniture, Triple Triad cards, crafting mats, Orchestrions, Chocobo barding, mounts, emotes, titles and effects are all timeless rewards. Along with level synched combat, duty roulettes and the job system, there's always people willing to run old dungeons, trials and raids.
"Galactic scares me a few times with his healing." Yeah welcome to being a tank. Just remember, so long as you have 1HP left at the end of the battle, the healer did their job right.
@@GalacticW Oh nah I'm not even being ironic. So long as you're DPSing between heals, then success as a healer is measured entirely on whether the party survives the fight. Don't matter how nervous the tank gets about their HP. You're a doctor, not a psychiatrist.
Honestly new players reacting to unique FFXIV mechanics is so amusing. Like there's so much in the game that I've been playing for a few years now so I'm like "yea they do that, we all know" BUT NEW PLAYERS DON'T KNOW THAT. And the way they flip out and they're like "how is the t-rex flying?!" is just so delightful. New players are honestly one of the greatest delights of the game. It's what keeps it alive after all this time
It bodes extremely well if you already like the story. Each expansion gets better with its own focuses and themes while continuing one large story. The next expansion, Dawntrail, is set to mark the beginning of a brand new story to be told as Endwalker ends the story you're currently experiencing.
Oooo that's exciting! It is quite a bit of reading as I mentioned but it I'd great to see the development of me being kinda of a nobody into a warrior of light
Fun fact: there’s an item that can change your character’s race, gender and whole appearance that you can earn a couple of in ARR as well as buy from the cash shop.
not sure why I'm watching this as a person who's played this game religiously for three years, but I'm always glad to see new sprouts getting into the game. :) And yes- the game (at least the Main Scenario Quest anyway) is VERY story focused and requires a ton of reading. like, it's a borderline visual novel at times. but then when you're done with the novel you get to hang out with your friends in the cool world you've been reading about.
I hecking love the way you describe things. bag of bugels. shroom trip. crab rave. had me rolling. as a vet xiv player (over 10 years), i love watching new players experience the game for the first time. Because I can never do that again, it feeds something deep in my soul to vicariously watch others fall in love with my favorite game. welcome to eorzea, friend. May you ever walk in the light of the crystal. :D also, your aggro issues in the beginning were specifically because of your high level friend being in your party. the larger the level disparity between your party and the mobs, the more mobs you pull at once. if it was just you as your lowbie self, you probably wouldn't pull more than one or two at a time. but with a high level person in your party, it pulls everything int eh vicinity because your party is a very threatening. It's very rude that your friend would do that and then watch you die on top of it. :/ Even more so, because a great power level trick is to be NOT in a party, have the lowbie attack a mob, and then have the higher level player kill it. lowbie gets full credit for tagging it first, and the higher player doesn't sap xp because they're not IN the party. By being in your party he's probably lowering your xp gains from mobs too. also, did he tell you to eat food for free xp boost??? also, beginner gear "fashion" is classic. Looking like a clown till about 50 (and then, even still for some classes) is a canon event. wait till you get the tin can or coliseum sets :D alot of the roegadyn names are based on swedish names (i believe; i could be wrong).
Definitely gained a sup. The video was super funny but what grabbed me in was the fact that you tried my favorite game honestly and fairly. Thank you for playing ff14 and welcome
I'm happy that you ended up liking the story considering it'll just get better and better! Hope you'll keep playing to get to those really amazing stories and group raids!

I also have heard alot that it's better as the story progresses so that's something tk look forward to

i would watch hours of this particular narration of a sprout perspective! I love it so much!
19:00 this keeps happening to you specifically because you're in a party with someone in the same area. Enemies start linking together when you're no longer playing solo. Summoning your chocobo companion (which you don't have yet) also counts as not being solo.
How have I spent 4 years and over 8,000 hours on this game without knowing this
Technically, if you're far above them in level they'll also link together, but in this case that just means that Dad was getting four or five rather than just two at a time. For the highbie, it's still absolutely trivial... IF they're the one actually taking the aggro.
When you mentioned you noticed how 'quickly' you seemed to became a 'hero' already, actually it used to take longer or there used to be more quests in early MSQ within the City-states, especially before you become emissary, but I guess people were complaining about how MSQ was 'too long' so around 5.3 patch they cut out some quests
I myself started in Gridania before the patch and was planning on trying out the other City-states but took too long and it was cut before I got the chance *sob*
Oh... that makes so much more sense. It just seemed like I beat like 5 people and they were like he's the very best!

I'm guessing based off of that it isn't as prevalent in later expansions?
People still group to do them, but it's most coordinated through discord. I do some sometimes.

I plan on putting a few adventures in moving forward! It's been fun thus far!
Visual novel indeed! The game has been amazing to play and basically live inside for the past two months!

all the mounts fly bc back in the day they didn't, only mounts for whom it made sense to fly could fly, which also meant if your favourite mount was like, a horse or something you could go pound sand bc it couldn't fly and it sucked 💀 also some mounts that SHOULD have been able to fly for some reason couldn't, like the swing that was suspended with balloons. anyway they made it so all mounts could fly even though sometimes it's silly
Galactic said it was integrated into the story just like, "we don't know why but everything can fly now "
@@CaffeinatedDadthey attempt to explain it by saying it can fly because you've "attuned to the aetherial winds" in an area. But it really just isn't worth thinking too hard about.
Heads up: The Further you get into the game, the more (and better) Voice Acting the game provides!
By the time you are in Endwalker, it has 16 HOURS of Voiced Cutscenes in the Base Expansion alone!
I believe Excluding the Raids & Side Content, there is about 70 Hours of Voiced Cutscenes alone in the MSQ up to 6.55.

i'm glad to hear you're enjoying it! new players are always fun to see experiencing the game, and it's always funny to see their perspective on things; i hope you keep progressing and enjoying it! as a note, as you get higher levels and unlock more dungeons, you're able to replay dungeons unsynced which lets you play through dungeons without being level synced which lets you farm trials and such for mounts later on once you unlock them. it's worth doing with friends, i find. lot of fun.
Galactic explained that a bit to me, but I actually missed doing group content, honestly. Gw2 didn't really intrigue me in that way
Great thing about the "Warrior[s] of Light" of old: They are 1.0 Players before Square nuked it so ARR could be made from a mostly clean slate.

If you liked the story at the beginning -which is not far from its lowest- then oh boi you are in for a ride because it gets SPICY

Only your starting class will determine starting town. you begin the game arriving at said town on a cart, so you might not even live there anyway.
experience was harder to come by back when the game launched, and the story is paced to match that.

Ha! Galactic has been trying to convert me to FF14 for years now and I only just conceded!
4:22 “might be important later down the line”
Hovers under the “this does not impact gameplay”
I am not the smartest man
About character creation affecting the story.

Hyur is pronunced H-Yur, very little emphasis on the H more on the Yur

Also Yshtola is pronounced Yish-Tole-Ah (long vowel O sound in the 2nd syllable)
"Every mount can fly."
The best mount by far, in my opinion, is the fat chocobo. It's a, well... a fat chocobo. You ride on its back and control where it goes by dangling a cabbage from a string in front of its face. Once you gain the ability to fly, though, you get it to fly (with its little tiny wings) by replacing the cabbage with a piece of cake.

Lmao glad I could help!
You had me at referring to the Yellowjackets as "angry bananas".
Is there a lie in my statement? Lol
Of course you don't do the same thing the whole time, but when you go from a continent to another, from a city to a dungeon, it constantly tries to link things logically instead of WoWesque "you're done with the barrens go to ashenvale now" thing
The feeling of being a "nobody" though is created in the side quests, the yellow quests are 100% purely optional and there's hundreds if not thousands of them, and most are simple tasks or simpler adventures for a "nobody". It makes sense too, the Warrior of Light is incredibly important to Eorzea, so all the major players of the world like city leaders, guild leaders, higher ups... would know who you are, so you get recognition fast, but normal people, just everyday citizens don't recognize you so they just offer you regular jobs
Realm Reborn also already has a LOT to set up, it doesn't matter if Burning Crusade didn't setup much because once you're in Wrath of the Lich King, you can forget about BC and you'll be fine.
Since Realm Reborn has all that setup work to do, for players already familiar with Final Fantasy, or MMOs it can feel like a slog (ugh I know what Ifrit is just move on) (ugh I know what a tank is just move on) but obviously not everyone is familiar with everything so they have to be introduced at some point
You often hear that the story picks up at the end of Realm Reborn / at the start of Heavensward, and it's true, but it's able to pick up because Realm Reborn has done all of the legwork of trying to catch everyone up with almost everything and now the game can just flex its creative and story muscles at you confident that if you paid attention, you'll have a good time
.-.. ... I had completely blanked on that Alphi arrived on the same boat as us. Neat.
Now THAT is a mustache of kings. The more I watch this, the more I love this character.
Wait until you get to the Manderville questline once you hit lvl 50. Some of the funniest content I've seen in a game in a long time. A+
Originally, they had separate categories for flying and non-flying mounts. But then they realized nobody ever used the non-flying mounts, so they just made all of them fly.
And then built it into the lore! That's so damn cool!

2) Elezen, pretty much as written on the tin
3) lah-lah-fell, again pretty much as written on the tin
4) me-co-tay

6:17 This joke alone made me subscribe, no joke XD I will never look at Ascians the same way again LMAO
If you want funny and relaxed experiance you made the perfect choice in marauder. Their quest line is insanely funny and its the most chill tank in the game.
Few fun facts/tips:
- basically every Roegadyn name is a pun or joke and weirdly easier to read if you have dyslexia
- teleporting is expensive at the start, but becomes cheap very quickly (plus you dont need gil for much during leveling or at all if you willing to craft), you can also take ships between maps not only taxi chocobos
- Mamool Ja are chameleon people, Sahagin are fish people
- you have found HUD layout options but bunch of HUD options are hidden in settings, you can hide empty slots on hot bars or the arrows for switching hotbars, make nameplates display differently based on instance/group/combat, displaying job icons on plates, colors based on roles... there is a lot of customization you can do (sadly) hidden like 15 menus deep into settings
gl hf
My partner still uses chocobos in Endwalker as a nice way to take a quick break instead of going AFK. So much laundry has been folded to that music.
Love your commentary and little pop up texts (yes I read them all :P). Welcome, enjoy your stay!

Welcome to Final Fantasy XIV ^^
There's a lot of things I could comment and say about your experience, my experience, and everything in between, but I wi ll only say this: If you are having fun, the game is doing its job, because that is what a game should be all about: Having fun. So, I hope you keep playing Final Fantasy XIV, as the game is pretty good in my opinion, but most importantly, I hope you keep having fun XD
Thus far totally enjoying myself! It's been. Alot of fun!
The overworld enemies are ganging up on you because you're in a party with a higher level player! They start doing that when someone, you or another player, in the party exceeds their levels by a certain amount
Thanks Galactic for making me suffer!
I have seen that! Quite often it seems like the more Galactic is with me the more pain I am in...
Oh my god this is so fun to see a new player to 2 of my favorite games, Hope you enjoy FFXIV starts slow but gets better.
It has been great!
If you really wanted a bewildering flying animation for a mount, ask your friend to get on his turtle/adamantoise
already did
"Galactic scares me a few times with his healing."
Yeah welcome to being a tank. Just remember, so long as you have 1HP left at the end of the battle, the healer did their job right.
Brave man once said, if you have more than one hp, then you are good to go
yeah i don't heal much and i would say i am at the lower end of mediocre for healing, i am more experienced as a dps or tank
It's what keeps it alive after all this time
Longtime FFXIV player, loved your take on it. Hope you keep playing and keep enjoying!
Hey, thanks! I had a great time stepping into this game!
And now on to the next video of Caffeinated Dad Gaming Beginners Guide to Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn In 2024
Hahaha can't do that yet. Maybe next year? Who knows!
@@CaffeinatedDad I mean A Realm Reborn is just the 1st expansion up to level 50
God I love sprouts! How you pronounce things are killing me! Keep going, the laughs don't stop!
@@CaffeinatedDad Fortunately, the game's success with each expansion has allowed them to include more and more voicework into the main story.
And yes- the game (at least the Main Scenario Quest anyway) is VERY story focused and requires a ton of reading. like, it's a borderline visual novel at times. but then when you're done with the novel you get to hang out with your friends in the cool world you've been reading about.
also, your aggro issues in the beginning were specifically because of your high level friend being in your party. the larger the level disparity between your party and the mobs, the more mobs you pull at once. if it was just you as your lowbie self, you probably wouldn't pull more than one or two at a time. but with a high level person in your party, it pulls everything int eh vicinity because your party is a very threatening. It's very rude that your friend would do that and then watch you die on top of it. :/
Even more so, because a great power level trick is to be NOT in a party, have the lowbie attack a mob, and then have the higher level player kill it. lowbie gets full credit for tagging it first, and the higher player doesn't sap xp because they're not IN the party. By being in your party he's probably lowering your xp gains from mobs too.
also, did he tell you to eat food for free xp boost???
also, beginner gear "fashion" is classic. Looking like a clown till about 50 (and then, even still for some classes) is a canon event. wait till you get the tin can or coliseum sets :D
alot of the roegadyn names are based on swedish names (i believe; i could be wrong).
