Johnny Carson has a great voice doesn’t he! I like him. Cheryl Ladd is just stunning. I adored her the first moment I saw her on the small screen. How she behaves here, just makes me adore her more.
Guests came on knowing they would have a conversation. Today they are interested in only entertainment/gags or promoting a movie etc. No actual reality TV. Carson was reality TV.

There's reasons for it. Kate and Farrah (and Jaclyn) were the original Angels. They started it all. Farrah was the phenomenon. And Kate was cast as Angel No. 1 who also created the show with the producers and invented the name and concept of the show. She was an experienced actress and the leader who helped the far less experienced Farrah and Jaclyn a great deal. CA never recovered from Kate's departure.

They were on Time Magazine, they were a sensation. All the others are replacements. And Kate created this show and she was the best. And Cheryl wasn‘t able to save the show when Kate left. No one was. A couple years ago Cheryl would admit in an interview “To be honest, when Kate left after the third season, it all kind of went flat. The show just didn't work as well”.

As someone who's not American, I never understood why Johnny Carson was the number 1 host in the US for so long. He always struck me as being a bit nervous and awkward, which is not something you want from a talk show host.

Carson's quick-on-his-feet quip at the very end of Ladd's segment was the funniest line. Cheryl looks fantastic. Now, why didn't she sing -- because she CAN sing AND plug the next night's Ben Vereen / Cheryl Ladd special. Johnny was a bit off. He didn't remember she was from South Dakota after she'd already mentioned it. He asked questions that Cheryl's already been surrounded by a thousand times, e.g., "Do you three [Angels] get along or fight, like the press likes to imply?" [paraphrasing). Because she's playing an investigator surely he could have come up with a better question than "have you trained with a gun?" His questions about the bathing suits and 'skin' came off sounding like a cheap shot AND not the least bit original. How astute of Cheryl to defensively reply, "Have you watched the show?" Because -- believe it or not -- there are some good mysteries and sometimes topical issues woven into the stories. Plus, vital for an ensemble, good relationships developing. What a humbling talk show experience for Cheryl when she asked of the audience "how many purchased my new poster?" -- an obvious inquiry after her "Angels" predecessor Farrah's multi-million poster seller. The response: 'crickets' designating 'NONE.' Wow; I certainly didn't expect that. . . . . Hailing from a great, 'big outdoors, wide-open-spaces state' like South Dakota, what a surprise hearing that she'd never fired a gun! Surely someone in her extended family or circle of friends would have invited her to go duck or geese hunting with a shotgun or plinking [i.e., casual shooting] tin cans 'out in the sticks' with a .22 rifle With "Charlie's Angels" truly being a Nielsen Ratings sensation I'm surprised and disappointed Carson didn't ask about the show itself like what her favorite episode was; her worst location; how is it working for Aaron Spelling as your boss; how soon does hiatus begin and what are her professional and personal plans while everyone at "Charlie's Angels" takes a break? "Thank you, Napkin Botany."
