As someone who worked in furniture industry for over 10 years, please note - most furniture stores do NOT have warm lighting. This is important to be aware of since color looks different depending on your lighting. So if you are shopping in cool lighting and then bring the furniture to your home with warm lighting it can look very different. I’ve seen furniture pieces that look brown in one lighting and then green in another.
That s why furniture/deco/clothes look great in a shop: the lighting enhances most of the time the items, to make you buy them. Once in the natural light, or with a warm light, it looks either normal or in the worst case... cheap! Plastic can even look pop and cool in stores but in the daily light it s just aweful. Be careful: in winter we tend to buy materials that look good because of non natural light! And when the spring and its bright light comes then we regret. My advise: to bring warmth just think about... the lighting and a winter cover on both bed and couch. That s it. Think about the spring cleaning then! It has to stay easy and pleasant. Not a moment where you regret to have bought cheap decorations that look bad in the real light!
You are 100% right! In my matching blog post (linked in the description), I wrote about the importance of fragrance. For some reason I decided not to put that tip in this video 🤔😂
Great addition, such as an essential oil diffuser or burning sage. To please the rest of the senses, can add comforting music and comfort foods/tastes such as herbal tea!
I would say books too. And more specifically: fancy mirrors. It doesn't have to be vintage but an expensive looking mirror is a very nice touch in a bathroom
She hit 3 good senses: sight, touch, and hearing (removing the room echo). Don’t forget to try hitting other senses! Smell: scented candles, oil diffusers, or even putting a teaspoon of vanilla extract in the oven (safely) will make your place smell heavenly ~> cozy Taste: having candy/chocolates in a decorative bowl or container, and for the bakers and extra people (like me) surprising guests with fresh cookies 🍪 Baking really warms up the place...literally 🥧
@@kritikitti3868 I can see that issue. Maybe an essential oil diffuser or wax warmer would be better? I like citrus or spicy scents during cold weather. They just smell warm to me!
While watching this video I: tidied up the room, lit up 2 candles, turned on my twinkle lights and the electric fireplace (just the flames), put on fuzzy socks and announced to my hubby “I made the living room cozy!” ❤️
Wow, this designer is spot on with her tips and suggestions. Having spent most of my working career in the interior design profession, I completely concur with her ideas. I was very pleased that she placed "lighting" in the number one, top position! I have stressed this major design element with all of my clients... essential in creating the proper mood for a room.
I never saw the point of lamps my entire life… after I wanted her videos and a few others.. I was like OK I’m going to get some nice lamps. It’s LITERALLY changed me and now I’m obsessed with the soft lighting at night and it’s made our home so much nicer
Another tip I'd add is to paint the wall with the right paint. I love colors similar to clay or the mocha ish looking color. The right color walls to me are everything. Thanks for sharing the tips.
i recently painted my greenish beige house (not my choice, lol) a nice, warm white (swiss coffee by valspar, in particular!!). not only does it make the house look much more modern, but it also makes it look SO much cleaner and cozier

Thank you! I also think colors are important.Warm accents of color can be inviting to a space.I'm off to buy some plants. Not only do they give a warm, friendly, healthy feeling but there are certain plants that purify the air we breathe, which is amazing.
So happy to discover yet another great decor channel (also love Mr. Kate, Alexandra Gater, XO MaCenna, Living to DIY, Alejandra Costello, The Sorry Girls, HGTV's Chip and Joanna Gaines, etc.). This video breaks down "cozy" so well with great examples and editing, and your setting there is very cozy too. "Coziness" is so comforting and healing!
It's great that you emphasized the fact that it's not just about the interior design styles that we choose, but rather the feelings that we want to evoke. Would love to your suggestions about how to create different feelings at home with interior design
Thanks for urging people to wear slippers in the house instead of outdoor shoes. So natural for us who have been to Asia Hawaii or Scandinavia. Great suggestion for guest slippers! Cozier and definitely cleaner for the house.
I'm refurbishing a tiny log cabin my wife and I built in 2000. I ordered Moose Lake custom curtains, a full length Bed Pillow and Skirt, and throw pillows for the Day Bed. I have not had shoes in my house for years, started this with my new house 7 years ago. Moving out of our rental, I saw the trail of dingy carpet where we’d been walking. There was push back, but my daughter and son in law started this at the same time, none of us could imagine keeping our shoes on indoors. I have really light carpet on the stairs and upstairs, it stays clean, the floors in general stay clean. I do not want mere dirt but also, ecoli, c-diff, lead tracked into my house.
@@tfrnich Normally the people who live there kick their shoes off as soon as they get in the house. It's the friends who come for dinner.. or for a Sunday BBQ and run in and out of the house with their shoes on to use the bathroom, etc.
I love a Minimalist style but I also want my home to feel cozy! I agree lighting is so important and cozy rugs! And plants! I love cactus because it's hard to kill them 😅 Thanks for the tips! 😍
This is so perfect! I am planning to make a move to my first own apartment and I know the vibe I felt in the pictures you showed is my vibe. I loved the tips you shared, thank you!!!
I love candles, but I have cats. So I use remote scented candles with batteries, they look great and they’re safe. Candles can be relaxing and also add coziness to an otherwise boring room.
I would say that another thing is the vibe of the atmosphere itself in home, I find playing beautiful music or just having lots peaceful quiet time, really affects the atmosphere, which makes it more cozy feeling.
You need to be careful with pets and plants, though - lots of love plants can be toxic to cats and dogs. The big animal protection charities have listed of what is/isn't safe, or you can go with faux plants. I have a mix of faux for the stuff I love the look of (or that's on/near the windowsill my cats sometimes go on) and then most of my live plants are herbs/berries, etc - edible for me and nontoxic for them 😁 www.cats.org.uk/help-and-advice/home-and-environment/dangerous-plants www.aspca.org/pet-care/animal-poison-control/toxic-and-non-toxic-plants
A pet makes a house into a home every time. My preference is for cats, they're fascinating, friendly, loving, mostly cuddly but not always and curious about everything
Thank you for all the tips, especially the information on the light and strength of the lights. I always get lost on this point! It was extremely useful, clear explained and easily to adapt to my home. Thanks!
The Danish call this HOOGA (pronounced hue-guh). "A concept of living that cannot be translated to one single word but it encompasses a feeling of cozy contentment and well-being through enjoying the simple things in life." Thank you for the tips! These are all great!
I HATE flush mount ceiling lights! I don't mind the more decorative semi-flush mount.. in fact I installed a semi-flush mount chandelier in my master bathroom and it is gorgeous!
@@PoshPennies great video thank you. Could you do a video strictly on lighting a living area (and potentially other areas), if you are looking for ideas. Its a challenge for me and there is more to it then just getting some lamps and candles I've discovered. I have 2 lamps (warm light) and ceiling mounted lights in a family room combo kitchen in a town house. It needs more but I'm not sure how to proceed. How do you know when you have enough? A video just on lighting a room adequately and keeping it cozy wpuls be great. I'm hitting that bell!
I love love love texture, earthtones, & boho! I need to figure out “cozy” for our tiny living room. I live with a bear so it needs to be masculine (and athletic) as well. I want to strip it down and start from scratch. Thank you, Vivian.
Yeah if you don't get natural light I feel like a daylight bulb is the ideal, especially if it's a room you work in or do any crafting stuff. You don't want to be squinting in low lighting! But at night I mostly just use the lamps with warmer bulbs, and keep a daylight one for when I'm working
One important point she missed is the effect the colour of your lightbulbs have on your paint colour. If you have blue walls, and 'warm' yellow light, you are asking for mud. Try to match the temperature colour of your bulbs to the colour of your walls.
100% especially for people with poorly lit rooms bulbs at about 5000k to 6000k or daylight white are ideal. It's great to add some additional lamps with warm white though for a cosier option.
Young woman...you got me going, for years and in different words people have said to me "your place is so comfortable, or cozy or I wanna lay down or go to sleep when I'm here" I consider them compliments, my decor is a mix of things. In the next few days I will begin to rearrange, remove make changes to my little studio house. I only have things I love, keep what speaks to me and I talk back, if I burn my toast I say "Im gonna eart you anyway toast" ...LOL...lighting has always been a factor with me and I go so far as to say " I don't like over head lighting at all " Thanks for reminding me of the nature in me.....song bird Joni Mitchell sings " I'm going back to the garden" my little patio reflects the love child, flower child in me also.....geeeeezzzzeeeee thanks so much....God bless from So. California
Everyone goes to sleep when they come to my home. I used to take offense like am I that boring lol. But have been told over the years its because my home is so comfy and inviting. I think its because of all the neutral colors and one pop of color in each room. Im also big on positioning things correctly (Feng shui) as many would call it 🙃 Great tips!
Hands down one of the best videos I have seen about cozying up the home. Don't forget clean is cozy (not spotless but clean of things like massive pet hair and no cat litter box to be found (ugh that turns us off to eating in other's homes-a cat litter box in the guest bathroom or corner of a room). We love our pets but we don't want to sit on someone elses hairy sofa. Also use either non scented candles or those that use only essential oils and soy wax. Burning fragrance and petroleum products is not cozy to those of us, which is most of us, whose physical bodies were not made to inhale human made toxins such as artificial fragrance. Instant headache for me. I stopped using all artificial scents several years ago and what a difference it made to our well being. When I am around clothing that has been dryer sheet treated I get a contact headache as well. Most of us are not aware of these allergies until we remove them from our lives. No children should be exposed to scented dryer sheets due to the constant chemical exposure caused by such clothing. Corporations run the world and they make a lot of money selling us cheap chemical solutions to things that are not really a problem until they create one. Since when did clothing or our homes need to smell like artificial rain or anything other than perhaps clean?
Just found this video which helps me figure out how I want my living room and bedroom, but I would love to see if you have any ideas about creating a bit of a moody dramatic feel to it. Bonus challenge would be using white walls.
Thank you. There are hundreds of deco videos but your selection, narrative and mood are excellent. Keep the good work. From Japan. The only thing I don't agree is.... too little videos!

you did such a great job, I know it's not easy to share this kind of stuff, you said nothing about how much things were giving it an opportunity to grow in your ballpark for expenses. humbled and will take the challenge. I love the rich rustic flavor and cozy flavor in the middle of winter. That's what I'm trying to get in my apartment! very good job!
Thank you for your comfy bits! Looking warm and snappy Posh Penny. Would you be at all interested in showing how to change the mood with paint color ideas?
This is my second vid I’ve seen of yours (coming from the drapes video). I have to say that your content is refreshing and brings in a new perspective. I subbed after the first vid. I look forward to watching more and using the information you’ve given to create a cozy vibe from my currently empty house :)
Your channel happened to come up to my right as "Recommended for you". I thought, this could be interesting so I clicked on the button and am certainly glad that I did. I love your style, recommendations and honesty in your presentations. For that. . . I have just subscribed. Thanks! Darryl
I appreciate these suggestions. This is a very nice video. I like that there is not annoying music or silly antics incorporated. This is the first vid of yours I have seen. Will be looking up the other ones you have. I assume that thriftiness is involved from your title and I appreciate that too. I will be asking you for your input on some of my issues, if I am allowed to do so. I have no talent at putting things together but I sure can collect a lot of items. Editing them is an area I need help with.
Hi Judy thank you for watching! My blog has a lot of thrifty decor ideas if you're looking for ideas and inspiration (poshpennies.com) - and yes if you have questions, ask away!!!
Hello! I recently came across your channel!...I’ve decided to take this time off and do some decluttering and redecorating. I appreciate the format of your videos! Simplified advice with steps that are actionable. Thank you!
Second video in a row.. The tips are grt n to the point.. Rugs r a costly affair in India or shud i say their maintenance is even more cumbersome.. Certain things are restrictive when staying on rent in a single room n on budget🤐.. Yellow lights smhow are depressive (for me) n (spl if there is lack of proper natural light in the room)... Bt all in all ur tips wr nice n practical.. Stay Blessed Stay Happy
I use a daylight bulb or or Lumie Vit D light for the main light in my living and bed- rooms, and then warm ones for the accent lights, so you can mix and match, or swap them as you need. It really helps if you struggle with getting natural light during the day :)
Excellent ideas! So much better than many of the more "upscale" decor ideas -why restaurants and bars strive for a cozy atmosphere instead of too modern; all easy ideas to implement. Thanks.
Really appreciated this video as I await the go ahead to move into my first proper home of my own - a 1 bed flat, completely empty so cozyness is important to me especially as winter comes to UK
This is the best video! Finally! I always say I want to decorate “cozy” but I don’t know how to describe it or what to piece together. This video gives me so many ideas! Thank you! ❤️
I was watching your video on tv So I switched to my phone to like and subscribe Because I love everything about your video and your personality, just what I needed..

I actually natuarally decorate like your tips and people always tell me how cozy my home is and its a small apartment. Good tips!
Yes!! Thank you !! You are so on point with the echo in a room and you are amazing thank you
it's very useful! Thanks you. Every time I watch your video, I learn something, and of course, you are absolutely a wonderful person!
I love a Minimalist style but I also want my home to feel cozy! I agree lighting is so important and cozy rugs! And plants! I love cactus because it's hard to kill them 😅 Thanks for the tips! 😍
Thank you Sara! 💗 I love cacti too because I don't kill them, unlike succulents which are supposed to be easy but I can't seem to keep them alive 🤣
It's really about what YOU love and what speaks to your heart.❤
I love watching your channel - I subscribed.
Practical, easy to implement immediately tips. Delivered exactly what the title described = cozy. Thanks !
Thank you!!!! 💗💗
Music is essential to me.
I had a hard time searching for what helps. This video was perfect for someone with A.D.D!!
Great tips!! Another one I would suggest is adopting a cat from a shelter. Or a dog. Of course take care and love them. They aren’t just accessories.
1 thank u
We took a dog from a very bad neighbor. He's a big ole slobber monster and love him sooo much.
You need to be careful with pets and plants, though - lots of love plants can be toxic to cats and dogs. The big animal protection charities have listed of what is/isn't safe, or you can go with faux plants. I have a mix of faux for the stuff I love the look of (or that's on/near the windowsill my cats sometimes go on) and then most of my live plants are herbs/berries, etc - edible for me and nontoxic for them 😁

A pet makes a house into a home every time. My preference is for cats, they're fascinating, friendly, loving, mostly cuddly but not always and curious about everything
Agreed. I just moved into a new apartment and I really want a cat, I'm just trying to take the next step into asking my landlord.
Yes I talk about HYGGE in my video about scandinavian decor, you should check it out! :)
shes actually very good at giving points on how to decorate.
aw thanks bev! :D ♥
This is the best video about having a cosy interior, I will be using them when redoing my room !
At last someone agrees with me, I hate lights in the ceiling especially those in the middle. I love table lamps.
Same I hate it when people put my main lights on no bitch I have some fairy light over here 😂👌👌
I HATE flush mount ceiling lights! I don't mind the more decorative semi-flush mount.. in fact I installed a semi-flush mount chandelier in my master bathroom and it is gorgeous!
Me too!
@@startaurus13 lol
@@PoshPennies great video thank you. Could you do a video strictly on lighting a living area (and potentially other areas), if you are looking for ideas. Its a challenge for me and there is more to it then just getting some lamps and candles I've discovered. I have 2 lamps (warm light) and ceiling mounted lights in a family room combo kitchen in a town house. It needs more but I'm not sure how to proceed. How do you know when you have enough? A video just on lighting a room adequately and keeping it cozy wpuls be great. I'm hitting that bell!
Thanks so much! I appreciate the tips for a cozy room. I'm getting ready to decorate my living room and I'm definitely using each of your tips
I love love love texture, earthtones, & boho! I need to figure out “cozy” for our tiny living room. I live with a bear so it needs to be masculine (and athletic) as well. I want to strip it down and start from scratch. Thank you, Vivian.
Have been trying to get my room cozy , I checked youtube and saw your video , it is entertaining and educative , thank you very much
I actually like cooler lights for my living room because I don’t have a window in there lol but everywhere else definitely a little warmer
It's HOT in Central Fla, I like white/blue lights.😻
One important point she missed is the effect the colour of your lightbulbs have on your paint colour. If you have blue walls, and 'warm' yellow light, you are asking for mud. Try to match the temperature colour of your bulbs to the colour of your walls.

100% especially for people with poorly lit rooms bulbs at about 5000k to 6000k or daylight white are ideal. It's great to add some additional lamps with warm white though for a cosier option.
Let the cozifications begin!
Your videos are so informative and easy to follow! The pictures and examples are great too!
Im also big on positioning things correctly (Feng shui) as many would call it 🙃
Great tips!
FINALLY I found a great word and style for how I love to decorate, cozy! The video described my style to a T!
Thank you. There are hundreds of deco videos but your selection, narrative and mood are excellent. Keep the good work. From Japan. The only thing I don't agree is.... too little videos!
Wow!! Thank you!!!! 💗💗💗
fantastic video! super professional and well presented
Restaurants should be watching your recommendations!
Lightning and sound BRAVO!
7:26 That earned my like 😂😂😂😂😂
I immediately subscribed, as soon as she said ban overhead lighting.

you're too kind!!! ♥♥ thank you
I absolutely adored this video! Thank you for breaking down these wonderful design elements, your tips are wonderful!
you did such a great job, I know it's not easy to share this kind of stuff, you said nothing about how much things were giving it an opportunity to grow in your ballpark for expenses. humbled and will take the challenge. I love the rich rustic flavor and cozy flavor in the middle of winter. That's what I'm trying to get in my apartment! very good job!
Omg you’re amazing!!! New subbie yayyy so glad you popped up and thank you for these great ideas🥰
Thanks for your advice and great way of walking the talk, it’s flowing.
This is the second video of yours that I've watched (and liked). I've found both very informative and helpful. Thank you!
thanks so much for watching and subbing :)
Faux succulents look especially real to me and work well in dimly lit bathrooms or any dimly lit area.
Your channel happened to come up to my right as "Recommended for you". I thought, this could be interesting so I clicked on the button and am certainly glad that I did.
I love your style, recommendations and honesty in your presentations. For that. . . I have just subscribed. Thanks!
Darryl
Hi Darryl, thank you for your comment & I'm so glad you enjoyed my video :)
I subscribed too. Lovely.
Great tips! And another…smell. Vanilla and lavender and woodsy smells…soooo cozy 😊
I appreciate these suggestions. This is a very nice video. I like that there is not annoying music or silly antics incorporated. This is the first vid of yours I have seen. Will be looking up the
other ones you have.
I switched off because there as such annoying music!
Thanks so much! Wow you were at 1,000 subscribers at this point. I can see why you grew so much. Even 4 years ago you had useful, well made content. 🙂
Great ideas and visual examples . I’m glad I found this channel. 😊. I subscribed to see more videos like this, Thank you for sharing this! 😊
Candles are always a must !!
🏡❤🏡
Hello!
I recently came across your channel!...I’ve decided to take this time off and do some decluttering and redecorating.
I appreciate the format of your videos! Simplified advice with steps that are actionable.
Thank you!
Thank you so much Jeff! I hope you have fun in the process :)
you have a very calming delivery - great content thank you
Second video in a row..
Will you please do a video on smart lighting and string lighting? This is so inspiring!
Your channel is fantastic. Congratulations!
Loved this. Felt cosy watching this.
Excellent ideas! So much better than many of the more "upscale" decor ideas -why restaurants and bars strive for a cozy atmosphere instead of too modern; all easy ideas to implement. Thanks.
I guess this is one of her first videos... so cute!! and great tips
Love this! So many tips I can apply to my new space💕
Really appreciated this video as I await the go ahead to move into my first proper home of my own - a 1 bed flat, completely empty so cozyness is important to me especially as winter comes to UK
Great tips! Straight to the point
Thank you Netty! ♥
U actually gave words and explained my feelings like my style of decor.... loved it... thnk u!
This is the best video! Finally! I always say I want to decorate “cozy” but I don’t know how to describe it or what to piece together. This video gives me so many ideas! Thank you! ❤️
I was watching your video on tv
So I switched to my phone to like and subscribe Because I love everything about your video and your personality, just what I needed..
