Carl Tosten is an incredible player and his videos initially turned me on to Yamaha guitars. I just picked up a used AC1M for a steal and it is one of the best guitars I have ever played, hands down. Thanks Carl 👍
True story. At GC in Fairfax VA on my way back to the Taylor, Gibson, Martin acoustic section. Walking by, hit the low E string on the A1R dreadnaught...all stop. Sounded EVERY BIT as good as the 2-3K high end guitars. I compared the sound to almost every Taylor, Gibson, and Martin. The 5K Taylors sounded a 'little' bit better. Walked out with the A1R. DEEP base resonance and EXCELLENT craftsmanship. Unreal for a guitar made in China.
Just picked a used Yamaha AC3R. On Reverb , at a great price, from Sam Ash ,I love this series I discovered them at GC when I was looking at Taylor, Martins and Gibson’s, always kept going back to this guitar, had to have one, thank you Carl for a great video 👍
Interesting video. I have several acoustic guitars including a martin d18. If I were going to purchase a YAMAHA guitar, then I think I'd go with the A3M. That guitar definitely sounds better then my Takamine guitar that was given to me. I hope to get up to my local music store soon and try out a A3M and maybe an A1M for comparison.
tried the Yamaha A1m today at guitar center and it sounded incredible in person. I demoed the Martin and Taylor up to about 2500 bucks and this sounded better than those by a long shot.

Mr. Dark lol your that guy that thinks a price tag makes something all powerful😂 I have a Martin D-18 and a Taylor 214. And I play my little 600$ LL series dreadnought more than anything. Quit knocking people because they don’t judge a product by price. Dumbass bitch
Doubt it. I know Taylor will do that, and install it layer if you change your mind. I'm stuck between the Yamaha AC5R and Taylor 224ce-k. The Taylor is beautiful, but the Yamaha has better materials in the build at a little lower price. Binding, nut, saddle, solid quality woods, and better electronics. I'm going to try both in person.
@@jameswilliford5478 yeah. Since Yamaha is a more mass production company rather than boutique guitar like Taylor. So any requests is impossible I think... Thank you for your information. Ofc I'll choose ac5r over Taylor 2xx. Im using Lakewood as my main acoustic guitar (the one on my video) , it's a good guitar, but not $2000 better than my samick/cort full solid guitar I had a long time ago. So I'm pretty sure ac5r will be better than Taylor 2xx since ac5r is Yamaha flagship guitar. But , if you can try both, why not ^^
Which guitar did you end up buying? I find the Yamaha AC5R to be a bit more balanced than my other guitars. It's not as "bassy" as a Martin and not as "bright" as a Taylor. It's somewhere in between which is really nice. I think it's a superior guitar until you start looking at a $2500 plus range. Lot of tonal varieties and the pickup is solid.
Whats the difference between the A and FG series. I play guitar for over 15 years, alot fingerstyle and am going to buy me something. But not for 2500$. Need some advice...
actually, I have 2 Taylor dreds & have owned a couple higher end ones. The Yamaha is voiced differently since it has the A.R.E. torrified top whereas most Taylor's do not unless you order one. I have the AC3R & it's a more focused guitar than my dreadnoughts so it's great for fingerpicking, which is my style. One thing I realized is the AC3R sounds just like my 10 year old Breedlove all solid acoustic. So the A.R.E. process does work & to my ear sure as heck sounds like an aged guitar right out of the box!
Agree, and what's with the obsession with amplified acoustics? Apart from pro's, how many people really have a need to amplify their acoustic, what happened to just sitting around, alone or with friends, and just playing without blasting each others eardrums out with excessive volume? Every acoustic review seems to be focused on the amplified sound and 90 percent of them sound like crap, lol.
I use the 2017 AC1M for studio recording and live. It sounds amazing live with the preamp. I tried around 50 guitars from 2000 dollars Martin and Taylor and other brands down to 500 dollar guitars. When it comes to the plugged in sound I liked this one the best. I actually tried a Yamaha twice the price and still liked the AC1m the best. I've been a touring artist the past 7 years and own Seagulls, Yamahas, Sigmas and a Taylor.
Love the A series just in the statosphere price point for a retired RR engineer. Son and I own FG Series guitars. He the FG830 I have the FG800. Were satis fied. The A3M is solid wood top laminated side and back. So is my FG800.
@@WAHRHOCHZEHN I have no clue what... Lol 4 butto... Wait what? I suppose I should remind you the 3 amazing buttons below your stove temp control also makes great coissants. Haha. What???
@@MintStiles Sorry, didn't notice that you talked about the Piezo quack of your stove when making great "coissants", whatever that might be. Really thought you wanted to blame one of the best sounding professional pick up systems available for acoustic guitars to be limited to Piezo sound.
@@WAHRHOCHZEHN LOL I was like buttons? But if I had a choice, it would always be K&K and magnetic mixed, much less feedback issues. You do loose a bit of highs with K&K and a magnetic can be mid heavy, but if you are amplifying, you are mixing and processing anyhow. Don't really have much interest in pure acoustic guitars these days. Hard to love when you can send a cheap electric through a few drives effects and preamps to get beautiful performance level volume with incredible harmonics.
I just snagged A1R off of Reverb for $350, I currently own a LL6, beautiful instrument as well. I just love Yamaha guitars.

Yamaha is great. I would agree it is best bang for the buck, but saying a $600 guitar sounds better than $2500 guitars is way over exaggerating imo.
Stop lying to yourself.
For a concert-sized guitar (I've got the AC1M), the bass strings sure pronounce well; nothing "tinny" about it.
Who’s signature is stamped on the blue label?
Younès Grandjean often plays with a yamaha acoustic guitar, and that's really the class
