Love the extreme metal coverage. Really digging the new Necrot album as well. What’s really cool about seeing them live is that they produce such a powerful sound for a three piece
Carl and Pete. Not being a fan of most of the types of extreme metal, ordinarily would not even listen to music by the bands herein. But I always try to listen to the music discussed and interject it with the SoT show when not that familiar either with the genre or the band. Carl, your discussions about the underlying thoughts and ideas given to these albums as well as Anaal Nathrack previous release provided an entirely new perspective some of this albums. A brief digression here. When I decided to attend some live opera performances in an attempt to appreciate that music, I was at the Met in NY for a Mozart opera. Didn't realize how hard I was trying to understand the libretto in Italian until the first intermission. The couple next to me asked if it was my first opera and i admitted such. Their advice was great and along the lines of - stop trying to understand it all but listen to it with fullness and then go read the libretto for a better understanding. Then they advised me to always read the libretto in attending a future opera for further my enjoyment. Spot on advice. Your discussions - particularly of the Anaal Nathrack current and previous release - reminded me that I should not quickly set aside music and performances just because they are initially difficult for me to hear or enjoy. So thank you for your enthusiasm and well-considered comments. Time to at least give some of these a more patient listen and read the lyrics as well. Can't promise that I will come to appreciate it like you but, after all, there are still some operas I am trying to appreciate as well. Thanks again, guys. Great show!
There's been loads of brilliant albums coming out lately. The new Napalm Death was amazing! I can't wait for the new Armored Saint album next week and the new Mr Bungle album the following week.
Pete, big fan of the show! How do you feel about the bands using giant screens! Compare to the concert we grew up attending! Like the Iron maiden powerslave tour or judas priest defender of the faith with big stage productions.
I’ve been wearing out both the Necrot and Napalm Death lp’s. I’m so glad you covered both of them. The ND is my favorite of the year just beating out Sparks so far. ND has been on a streak since Smear Campaign. The Warbringer album smokes as does Bear Mace and the new Vader.
Anaal Nathrakh had instances of clean vocals in choruses for many years. More Fire than Blood from 2009 is perhaps the first instance of this. Good to see some extreme metal reviews.
Today I spent $100.36 on Death, Symbolic Deftones, Ohms KoRn, Nothing Nirvana, Unplugged Mastodon, Cold Dark Place and Medium Rarities MetallicA, S&M2 Pearl Jam, VS ZZ Top, Antenna and Rhythmeen
Yes that Necrot album is fucking awesome. Ulthar-Providence, Skeletal Remains-The Entombment of Chaos is good too, fans of Obituary, Death, Morbid Angel or Pestilence will probably dig this band. I haven’t gotten to the new Enslaved album yet.
We have a Necrot flag in the place my black metal band practices at. As for some really good extreme metal releases this year I would say Antichrist Above by Putrid has been one of my favorites, alongside Endless Wound by Black Curse.
I've only heard the Napalm Death, but it's one of the best albums of their storied career. Necrot are a killer younger band. They'll be through here when COVID blows over, so I'll buy that CD when they come to town. I find Anaal Nathrakh's output to be pretty spotty, so they've dropped off my radar.
Hey Pete, have you ever thought of doing a show about Impellitteri, the power metal band? I searched in your archives and didn't see them listed. Just a thought. Not sure if you're very familiar with them.
The video for "Bellyful of Salt and Spleen" by Napalm Death, ruclips.net/video/TLKjpobj4vg/видео.html is the saddest video since Bone Thugs N Harmony Crossroads.
This is probably considered sacrilege, but can anyone tell me where I can find a band doing these wonderful riffs that go beyond standard heavy metal, but without the growly vocals, I just feel like I want to give the singer a cough sweet.
The more extreme the guitars, the more extreme the singing. You won't find music like that with clean vocals, simply because they wouldn't sound good with such meaty riffs.
You could try some bands with “growls” that can be mostly understood. If you haven’t heard them try Amon Amarth, Arch Enemy, early In Flames. Great riffs and vocals harsher than Judas Priest but nowhere near as extreme as Napalm Death.
@@kevinm5957 Thanks for the advice, I've just ordered the latest Enslaved album, mix of fairly understandable growls and clean vocals, riffing possibly not that extreme, but more so than traditional heavy metal. Will give your suggestions a look next time I'm in the market for something like this - been buying far too many CDs lately due to the pandemic. Stay safe and thanks again.
@@seaoftranquilityprog About your guest: I understand his right to say whatever he wants, however he wants, but frankly when he does so it just feels all wrong... Awful review for Necrot. "I forgot ...". "Can't remember..." , Describing cover art instead of showing, not knowing what style of music they play....unacceptably bad - not worth of SoT channel.
anton džaja jurca I just consider them having an old school death metal style. If you haven’t check out Skeletal Remains and Ulthar. Ulthar have some black metal elements to it.

LOVE the new Anaal Nathrakh! Good stuff fellas 🤘🏻
Thank you guys for your REVIEWS: The Latest from Napalm Death, Necrot and Anaal Nathrakh.🎤🎸🎵🥁
more of these please Pete
Will be excited to see Pete's list. I just placed an order for the new Blue Oyster Cult album, largely because of his review.
The new BÖC is extremely excellent. My favorite track is “The Alchemist.” What a friggin’ stellar, outstanding song it is! Indeed. Indubitably.
Very good to hear! Thanks Davey. I picked it up at the record store a few hours ago, super excited to listen to it tonight!!!

The Necrot and Napalm Death kick ass, both are in my top 10 of the year. Anaal Nathrakh’s album is pretty cool too imo, I like what they’re doing
I am beyond excited for the new Benediction album when it comes out.
All three of those albums were winners along with Finntroll and Skeletal Remains September and October have been some pretty great for extreme music.

Napalm Death always makes me happy. Ittough to pick a favorite on the new album because it's so varied.

Anaal Nathrakh has been raining down blackened industrial hate on my soul since their blistering debut The Codex Necro. The UK rules again!

Endarkenment will be in my top 5 songs of 2020 probably. After that single, I liked it progressively less but Requiem is an awesome song!
@ Pete...idea for a show. Top 10 Iron Maiden songs since the return of Bruce and Adrian, Brave New World till present.

New BOC, Kansas , And Deep Purple albums blow away any of these younger bands. Definitely top 3 albums of the year
