Used this at a wedding on canon 5D mark iii and mark iv bodies and got some really great results. From an event photography perspective, this is a fantastic option in tight crowds, didn’t focus hunt much in really low light. Also for dancing crowds so close to you, you don’t want to go wider than 3.2. Results are great, I’d say 8/10 performer in that regard. With 10/10 being the 16-35 f2.8 mark iii for like quadruple the price lmao
Good video! I really liked how many aspects of this objective your video covered. I got a Nikon D5600 and wanna take pictures on the wedding trip of my mother. There gonna be some great shots in front of an waterfall and on the beach and I want to take pictures of the weddings guests in front of the Waterfall and I think thats gonna be absolutely fine. Here comes my only critic (a tiny one, more like a "wish" and not an "you did bad"-thing 😁): you focused much on close- range objects, but i would have loved more picutes under different conditions in nature (I know, easier said than done, depending on the season, time and weather-conditions) so yeah... Thank you for this video! It helped me a lot 🤗 Keep it up and good hunt for good (photo)shots!📸
Thank you! I try to test lenses to their full potential, for this one it’s specifically good at closer focusing distances, especially when paired with an extension tube but I have done many videos with this lens included. I did a street photography POV video on the channel with my Rebel T7 and the kit lens. Be sure to check it out! ( Dade city POV )
i have this lens for over 10 years. it's the older model but honestly i don't believe there's any difference in the optics. i love this lens in spite of it shortcomings. it produces great sharp images and it's very practical choice in a narrow crowded spaces.
I have this lens. You need to stop it down to about f7.1 for consistently good results edge-to-edge throughout the zoom range. This is fine for real estate and landscape photographers, but not so great for astro. Having said that, if you want straight lines, chances are you're on a tripod anyway, so you'll get decent results. It's an ultra wide after all.
If you want straight lines for real estate buy a Laowa, this lens is decent but for the price it’s not worth it In my opinion. And most people don’t buy a wide aperture lens to stop it down 🤷🏻♂️
@@JordanHandwerker You're probably right. My situation is unusual though. I forgot to mention I paid less than $50 for mine at auction. I can live with stopping down at that price 🤣
@@mrrcassidy 😂 I mean like I mentioned if you can find it used than definitely worth picking it up, but if you’re looking at it new that’s when it’s another story
@@JordanHandwerker Is this good for real estate? I heard it keeps the lines straight. What would you recommend for canon body full frame for real estate under $1000 ?
If you want a zoom lens you could probably get away with using this, if you want a Zero Distortion lens I would go with Laowa, I use the Laowa 14mm f/4 Zero D for real estate
Do you recommend this lens for real estate photography and some wedding photography (dancefloor or some natural background)? It's on sale for $499. What do you think? If I skip this lens at $499 then I will go for a used (like new) Tamron 2G 15-30mm 2.8
I mean it could work for real estate yes, I don’t know if I would choose this knowing that it’s pretty heavy. That being said I think if you want a primary real estate lens I would go with a Laowa Zero optic. If you want a zoom lens with an f/2.8 Aperture you can opt for this, I would go with the Tamron myself it’s a decent lens but the Tokina has its drawbacks in weight
Hi. What body did you adapt yours to. I attached it to my eos rp with the canon basic adapter and it wont focus. It slowly tries to hunt but it never focuses. did you run into the same problem?
I adapted it to the EOS RP as well with the Canon EF to RF adapter. I haven’t had any issue with focusing. But I also hate the push/pull focusing system on this lens ( just weird to me ). You should check your Autofocusing metrics in the camera itself. You should be able to speed up the Focusing system if you’re having an issue with speed in focusing
For what it’s worth, no image stabilization, the images at f/2.8 are relatively soft and it’s a heavy lens, if you want a flat out wide angle lens you can find prime focal lengths at or below the price, or even second hand 16-35mm canon glass for around the same. I think if it were a little less in price it would be worth it but not at the retail price
Good bit of detail/info here. Really helped me make an informed decision. Thanks mate 👍
You’re welcome! That’s what I’m here for, Cheers!

Yeah it’s not a terrible lens, it’s definitely heavy and soft in the edges of the frame at larger Apertures
@@JordanHandwerker we must not forget that it's over 10 years old design.
Just like 9/11, I’ll never forget

Hello friend can we place on it lens uv filter
Unfortunately no, not without a mattebox or a drop in filter housing.
i see it on sale for $265 i have the cannon 17-40 f4 any thoughts ??
I think that’s a reasonable price, keep in mind you won’t be able to add any CPL/ND filters to it without a matte box but it’s a decent lens at f/2.8
@ copy great call. Appreciate the fast response. I’ll stick with my cannon i got that for $150 used. Thanks
You’re most welcome! Maybe you’ll find this lens cheaper one day 🙏🏻💚
I have questions..can i use this for vloging in nikon full frame..please tell❤❤and can i do still video
You could although the lens itself is fairly heavy so you could use it but keep the weight in mind
If I say that weight is not important for me then??
Again you could use it. If weight isn’t an issue for you then disregard that information

I got an openbox for $299. amazing lens, I use it for my event photography on my R6. i shoot f3.2 and above and its very sharp across the image
Definitely sharp when you stop it down for sure but f2.8 does have some soft corners

If you go into the menu at the top it’s in between the wrench and star icons ( C.Fn II: Autofocus)
I think the price is too high. Nice Video.
It definitely is
what are you saying price is too high? this is the cheapest ultra wide lens out in the market right now
@@lloydrivera124 I just got a vintage lens that my booster converts to 17mm f/2. That is good enough for me. Lens was $50.

Because of this purple background, I sometimes struggle with distinguishing youtubers.
Sounds like a you problem 😂
mine on f2.8 is sharp all the way to corners.... and I mean tack sharp !!!
I mean...for $600 MAX...WHY NOT???
Idk why not 🤣
that flea pic was awesome. also disgusting.
