The X-E series has always been the hidden gem of the Fujifilm lineup. For those whose shooting style doesn’t benefit from a leaf shutter or who don’t make full use of the hybrid viewfinder, these cameras make a very worthwhile alternative to the X100 series. I’ve found I actually prefer my X-E3 and X-E4. They offer everything I need and leave out the things I don’t, and really streamline the process of making a photograph. A classic case of “less is more.”

    • @graemeallan7883

My reality suggests the XE4 cannot be described as 'less is more'. For those who look, a comprehensive range of photographic possibilities exists, some would suggest 'hidden' rather than in the face as is the case with the XE3. As a street camera, the XE4 is unbeatable. Even the 100V is too big, too bulky for stealthy work on the streets. I find the 'less is more', when directed at this masterpiece, is as offensive as references to the XE4 being 'small' or 'tiny' in the sense that 'big cameras' do a better job. And by the way, using an XF10 taught me very early that small is anything but inferior.

I have an X-E4 and inappropriately use it for landscape photography in Alaska. I keep trying to justify getting rid of it and replace it with an XT5. However, the XE4 continues to enable me to take wonderful photos in an environment that is well outside of its design. It's a great little camera, and I'm quite happy with its performance, capabilities, and ergonomics.

I got an x-e4 a few months ago, and it's been an amazing camera for me. I already have an x-t3, and whenever I do concert photography I can shoot both knowing that there won't be any difference between both cameras. Also, I took it with me in a trip to London and with the 18-55 and the 35mm f2 xc it was more than enough for my needs.

Two weeks ago I picked up an X-E3. The X-E4 has been scarce for months, so when I had a chance to go into the city and visit my favourite camera shop, I was thrilled to find they still had stock of the X-E3. $550 for a brand new body. No stock of the XF 27mm F2.8 so took a chance on the TTArtisan 27mm F2.8 AF, which has been a pleasant surprise for a lens so cheap. The X-E3 has not left my side since, and I must have taken more photos in these two weeks than the previous 2 months. Fantastic camera, nearly perfect form factor and size (my only wish would be for a tilting screen like the X-E4) which proves the adage that the best camera is always the one at hand.

I took to long to decide that the ideal upgrade for me would be the XE4 and well, now discontinued and difficult to find, especially in Australia. I really hope Fuji come out with a replacement but nothing I'm reading seems to indicate they will be.

Love this minimalist camera, the only two real weaknesses for me are the loud shutter sound (compared to X-H2S, or any leaf shutter camera, this shortcoming can be be however partially solved by using the electronic shutter), and a missing IBIS which would significantly boots the usability of the APS-C sensor. Otherwise the camera is very well balanced.

I've tried various fujifilm cameras (X-T3, X100T, X-T10), and have dabbled with other makes too, and the x-e4 is the one for me.
I absolutely adore it. Small and easy to use. Works nicely with other lenses, and they don't necessarily have to be that small. I have found that I tend to use the 27mm F2.8, twinned with the Sigma 56mm DC DN F1.4 for portraits and these cover my needs. I found the X-T3 whilst lovely too large for my needs, and a camera that stays at home is not a camera to keep. The X100T was superb but I found I missed being able to swap lenses. So it came down to the X-T30 and the X-E4 and I chose this.
This is a camera for people that want to take their cameras with them, without worrying about looking too imposing, nor having to carry too much gear, or weight. It's a fun (in the making photography enjoyable way) camera. The images are superb, and I've not bothered to edit RAW files from fuji cameras for nearly a decade, the JPGs are simply that good.
The only tweak I've made is that I've added a third party grip. I was initially a bit worried about what it would do to the aesthetics and size, but neither have been an issue. I'd recommend adding that.
If you care about the most megapixels, or ultrahigh resolution, or instant focusing, then perhaps this isn't for you, but this camera is easily plenty good enough, and in my humble opinion, simply superb. Mine will never be sold.

I bought the x-e4 because I couldn’t find an x100v and I love the camera. I bought it body only because that is all that was available so I purchased the 35mm f/2. I would’ve loved to buy it with the 27mm f/2.8 lens but it wasn’t available. I just purchased Fujifilm’s 23mm f/2 and TTartisan’s 50mm f/1.2 manual.

    • @jamesbarron5590
      @jamesbarron5590 Год назад

@@SamGrimes93 Although the x-e4 body is not much smaller than the a7c, it is lighter in weight. Plus Fujifilm offers so many smaller, faster lightweight prime lens options. So the x-e4 is my smaller camera setup. The film simulations are fun and easier but I still tweak some pics. So at the moment I only have prime lenses for my x-e4. My latest addition is the Viltrox 75mm f/1.2. Favorite lens. It is big though.
The a7c is pretty fantastic. My favorite lens for it is the Tamron 35-150 f/2-2.8. Not the ideal leans for the smaller body but I decided to go this route to avoid having to carry multiple prime lenses. I bought a small rig cage with the grip to make it easier to carry. So it is definitely a bigger setup but I also enjoy the a7c with the 85mm f/1.8. I have the kit lens that came with the a7c, the FE 28-60mm f/4-5.6 as well. It is tiny and super lightweight but the sacrifice is the aperture. Pictures are very sharp though. I also have the FE 20mm f/1.8 lens for group pics or video.
The autofocus on the a7c is fantastic and there is no record limit for video if that is important to you.
The biggest draw for me is that you can have a small full frame EDC with the right lens and then rig it up and throw a big lens on it for event photography. Hope this helps.

@@jamesbarron5590 thanks for the speedy response! I've had my A7C for about a year but the whole time I've debated whether I should stick with my Z system or go fully with Sony. I think I've finally settled on the sony just because the AF is so much more response for my erratic subjects, and it's a much less intrusive body style.
Think I just need to invest in some more lenses! I've got the 35 1.8, but thinking about adding the 85 1.8, and perhaps even the 70-350 as I'd like to get more into wildlife shooting but not sure I'm quite ready for a 200-600.
Id really like one of the smaller lenses too to go with the compact body. Maybe the Zeiss 35 2.8, Samyang 35 2.8, one of the Sony compact trio or a sigma I lens. It's starting to sound expensive though...

The X-E4 is a lovely camera. But I have to put in a vote for the X-E3 as the sleeper of the X-E line and the only one of the X-E line to feature both the front and rear command dials just like the X-T line. With both dials and a button (choose your favorite, I prefer the function button) programmed to ISO, you have the exposure triangle at your fingertips in a one-handed setup. None of the other X-Es can do that.

I'm a Sony APS-C shooter, but I'm sad to see the X-E4 go. I always admired the minimalist aesthetic, and I think Fuji's round EVF eyecups look much more elegant than Sony's rectangular units. I've also been envious of Fuji's 27mm f/2.8 and 18mm f/2 pancake lenses versus Sony 16mm and 20mm f/2.8 pancakes with poor optics from the ancient history of the NEX days. With a new X-Pro long overdue, and the XT-30 II seeming to be on perpetual backorder, I wonder what body will be left for Fuji users to pair those and other compact primes with?

A bit outside of your normal wheelhouse, I know, BUT: I would love to see you do a review on the original Fuji GFX-50S, & then compare it with the 50S-II… because I think Fuji needs to hear from someone with a solid voice that they need to get back to proper manual dials. They rediscovered themselves with the original X-series, but I feel like they’re losing touch with that. They’re one of the only camera companies still acknowledging old shooting haptics, & we need them to understand that their medium format can’t just be about wedding photographers & cinematographers… some of us old-school street & fashion shooters want to maintain that classic connection with a camera. …Just food for thought

To me the X-E4 is the best balanced camera in the entire Fuji-line. This is what APS-C is about. It’s an ‘always there, but never intrusive’ kind of camera. I often grab my wife’s X-E4 with a 35/f2 when we go out downtown. The 50mm equiv. forces you to frame more carefully, than the 35mm equiv. of the X100V. The X-E4 was the only Fuji camera we cared to keep out of the many I’ve owned over the past decade.
Sadly the camera was butchered on the ‘chip shortage altar’ when Fuji realized that they could make a higher turnover by putting the same sensor/processor in more expensive models. I just hope there will be an X-E5 that has the same great 26MP and the same minimalistic approach. But I fear that, should there ever be an X-E5, it will have the noisier 40MP, all bells-and-whistles and well-beyond $1,300 or so. Sigh…

According to the company and others, a blend of shockwaves from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, supply chain disruptions (especially from China), and a global chip shortage for all sorts of electronics have all come together with rising X100V popularity to make Fuji unable to fulfil new production demand.22 Nov 2022"
We live in interesting times 🙁
