That was close! A Nearly Bowled Disaster with 45690 Leander

  • In this short video, we capture what could've been a lot worse than what it turned out to be where we nearly 'well not entirely' got bowled whilst seeing the wonderful LMS Jubilee 45690 Leander hauling The Coast to Coast Express from Liverpool Lime Street to Scarborough at Chinley East Junction 16th September 2023!
Having been anticipating a close pass between the late running Jubilee & late running Northern Sheffield to Manchester Piccadilly service formed of two Class 150 Sprinters myself and everyone else at Chinley East Jn were keeping our fingers crossed to not get bowled and I don't think things could've been any closer with the sprinters coming into shot just as Leander got much closer and out of the middle and main part of the frame. A few seconds later from Leander or a few seconds earlier from the 150s would've resulted in a complete disaster and thankfully this did not happen lol!
For the next clip we see Leander still powering up the steep gradient of Chinley Bank sounding fantastic as she heads for the coast with the service train still in shot proving even more how close things were!
Overall it was great to see one of preservations finest locomotives at work on the steep gradient of Chinley Bank, even if it was cutting it very fine!

Haha, it was definitely a nervy moment. Thankfully the sprinter wasn't a few seconds earlier or Leander a few seconds later otherwise it would've been a complete disaster lol! Glad you enjoyed it :)

Another great video, always worrying that something will appear on the other track and ruin the shot.

Thanks very much, Alistair glad you enjoyed it! Probably the closest call I've ever had in terms of getting bowled, a few seconds earlier from the sprinters or later from the Jub and it would've been a complete disaster. But thankfully not lol!
