Just did this same exact job on an older Deere I have. Nice simple improvement to make mowing 10x easier.

It's funny, I just looked at another similar one I'm picking up soon and it has the same exact problem but the steering gear hasn't stripper yet. Must be a real common Deere thing

I’ve been installing the flat brg kits on nearly every mower in shop and it does make a lot of difference
The easiest way to help them turn for cheap and if no grease zert I drill and tap it

If a guy took a cutoff wheel on a grinder, and made a shallow ring around that 'king pin' in line with the grease fitting, then made shallow spiral groove up and down, to within a half inch of the top and bottom of the 'sleeve', it would always take grease better and distribute it in both directions better.

It would, but I think this one has never been greased and if it was once in a while it wouldn't be a problem. And I think doing all that is more work than doing this once every 5 years haha but still a good idea

It’s a lawn tractor not a space ship, no need to over thing or complicate things.
Pump grease into the spindle via the zerk till you see old grease come out. Do that every season for most home owner’s and never an issue.
Great touch on polishing the shaft! It’s the little things that make such a big difference 🔧🇺🇸🤙🏻🦅

Take a 10 long 3/8 bolt, cut head of a cut 1 inch down shaft, then put sand paper and wrap, then with drill polish inside hub

It really wasn’t bad but definitely a good idea. With mowers it comes down to how worth it is the work I’m doing haha

"All 17 of you" I laughed out loud. I have done this repair many times, the knuckles seize up all the time on these Deeres. As a I creator, I understand your comment. It's strange how RUclips works sometimes. 78% of my views are from non subscribers. I'll give you a sub though.

Even though I went to an electric push mower, I still enjoy lawn mower videos or any "get it running again" type of thing. I still have my 23 yr old MTD Yard Machine riding mower going strong. I saw you have a lot of mower videos so I subscribed to your channel as well.
