This is the kinda energy we need in rock music and between Idles, Shame and Fontaines DC I am living for this moment.
You mention those punk-by-numbers arseholes idles in the same breath as the excellent Shame & the godlike Fountains (who are on a whole different level to everything released in the past decade or more)...get real.
For those interested I've put together a detailed progression of Charlie's performance below:
1:44 - The headphones come off and I don't think they ever return for another performance. They were just holding him back.
2:17 - A fedora appears on his head. It's not entirely clear how it got there, but don't worry about that because it probably won't stay for long.
4:27 - The leather jacket comes off. It was holding him back more than the headphones. He has more mobility now.
8:20 - The fedora comes off as anticipated. It's almost as if there's one more thing to do...
22:32 - His entire upper body has now become completely devoid of clothing and accessories. It's over - he's going fully ballistic. Rock on.
You need to learn what the fuck a fedora is, that's a cowboy hat nerd.
@@ATLTraveler Apologies for making such an egregious error, I hope you'll forgive me!
@@EK63315 fine, I guess I can forgive :)
@@ATLTraveler thats a sombrero my man
I wonder what the record is for the longest Charlie's ever gone in a gig without taking his shirt off
IDLES and SHAME are the bomb
Razvan Florentin Popescu as well as show me the body definitely recommended you checking them out
Fuck - don't mention them together!! I believe IDLES...don't believe these guys. I keep hearing them tagged as punk - Lead singer says - on university "We didn't want to go there 'slash' get the grades". Punk as fuck! Bring back Gallows - they had the right idea on Punk. Maybe in 10 years they'll be convincing.
+ Fontaines DC.
Heavy lungs and fontaines d.c too
Jean Carlo ice age shame Fontaines dc and idles are my favourite bands!
KEXP is the cool aunt who knows all the mind blowing music you’ve never heard of
Didn't Palma Violets all die in a van crash? Should Google ...that! is fuckin lazy.
@@frankystarrz yeah I just looked it up I didn't say anything about a fan crash.
Maybe they were referring to the band 'Her'.
Best RUclips channel going. I’ve been turned onto so much new boundary pushing music through Auntie KEXP
Lmao! So true.
I refer to her as Auntie Cheryl.
She's not on this episode, but yeah,. Her!
No offence to this host, hes cool too. But Auntie? Haha
Together with 3voor12, yeah.
that bass tone is so crisp and thick at the same time. delicious sounds
its the best! love playing along with this dude! really tasty line
the bass player rocks
Yeah, he really rocks those braces. Do you think that his mom still has to turn his expander?
@@onloveandsublimation4912 I Don't know anyone who could wear braces better.
Dude has the perfect punk rock bass tone. Fender P bass and melting tubes
The singer is excactly what we need more of in music these days. People who are feeling it, people who are firmely enjoying what they are doing when they are perfoming, not some emotionless and cold musicians that go on stage and merely play their songs. We need more of that fucking energy, bless this band
Stan LOONA.

check out IDLES for more of that energy, like...MORE of that energy
Andi Baumgarten Ageed. Saw them in San Francisco this summer and the energy was contagious. More of this pleeaz!!
lots of cool bands. my fave live bands are charly bliss, starcrawler, mannequin pussy, flasher, wolf alice and weakened friends just to name a few. i love going to shows. nothing better than good live indie music.
The bassist is like the best part of this band. I think I'm in love with him
@jumbolandia it really is, nice to see though!
Ywahhhh. OMG I keep coming back to this for some reason😩 2:38
@@lalitthapa101 I thought I was the only one who kept rewinding 😂
I cannot thank Kexp enough for all the times they’ve showed me amazing music
will never stop saying this:
MORE ROCK AND PUNK ON THIS CHANNEL! these are always the best performances!
Right? For every 1 good band we get 10 whiny singer songwriter cunts.
0:27 Dust on Trial
4:35 Concrete
8:28 One Rizla
22:28 Friction
26:47 The Lick
love these tunes!!
thnks! Just find out about them, great band!!
Cheers
47yrs old and well enjoying new wave of british punk, thank fark some real music at last!!!
Same...
46, but yeah, all this post punk around right now is the shit.
46. Somewhere in East Asia where not many listens to Brit punk. Strangely i was introduced to this band by a non English speaking Japanese.
I'm 57, love these boys, the bass is to die for
one of my favorite band just saw them in show this September. My god they are good live!!!
This is what a band sounds like that grew up listening to the record collections of their old-school goth/shoegaze/ parents.
indeed
As one of those would be parents, I think that's why I like it! They nailed the drums.
I don't care if there are similar bands. The energy of this band is incredible and integer. It's there because they love music so much and it shows. Gave me goosebumps.
I have seen a LOT of recent shows and these guys at Chop Suey were like nothing else. Their energy is out of control. I swear the last song they were flipping over each other so much they had to scramble back and replug their pedals five or six times but somehow without missing a beat. I will see every future show they do within a 300-mile radius of my house.
JeanMichelCupidon l
drummers timing is really steady
bassist is holding his axe like a pro!
yeah, he's solid, and not just typical beats
Looks so much like ty segall wtf
Wow, you mean he achieves the bare minimum? Amazing.
The drummer is really good yeah.
Punk sounds much more authentic coming from the UK
Good shout on the sniffers.
There is a hell of movement developing in London with punk / post-punk again.
I would say that Protomartyr are fucking authentic, and American.
Stephen Owen love PROTOMARTYR!
sick icon BTW
You mean punk sounds more authentic coming from the 70 s era...
I’m very impressed ! This generation of kids are bringing back all the energy! I’ve seen it in the local scene and this proves it even more
Shame never felt/sounded so good. Great Band/set/interview/cowboy hat. LONG LIVE KEXP!!!
right into the top 10 performances of the year
Sebastián for real, dude threw himself into it. I like. Infact they all did
they always do - always.
Idles on kexp is even better!
Love the energy and I’ve never seen a bassist move so much.
Came here looking for Idles’ gig on kexp, stumbled into these guys instead, was not disappointed
this is the first I've ever heard of this band and I'm absolutely hooked
Nathan S ditto
That is an interesting aerobic routine the vocalist has.
Glad this band exists. I knew nothing about them prior to clicking over to this video. Theyre not yet jaded. Their tunes are lively, angsty.. Feels so genuine.
a bunch of boys having fun, something i love to seeeeee
Brilliant. 'Concrete' gives me a Parquet Courts vibe. What a performance.
Another great band i stumbeld into via kexp, thumbs up...
The version of Friction dares me to lose my fear of water & flying. Sending love across the pond.💙
What a great band, some great music around at the moment
that drum fill 01:55
I love that song for the drums
It's perfect timing for the rebellious youth to resurface. this energy brings back memories of slam dancing & stage diving in the local firehalls around DC in the 80s. 30 years later, still in it. It never leaves you. This band is right up there with Fugazi. Will make it a mission to see them when around town. Cage the Elephant should take 'em on tour.
Saw these guys playing with Viagra Boys a few months ago and they’re still killing it!
Love those Joy Division-esque guitar lead riffs
Pure plagiarism
dunno if punk is dead or guitar music is going to die. music is alive and well for sure.
so many creative genuine musicians trying their best.
Best debut of 2018.
I love them I hope to see you soon in México 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
Los necesito en mi vida
Really upset I missed them in the US this last year; hoping to remedy that soon. Stoked to hear more of Food For Worms soon.
Man I love these guys. **licks the mic**
This is actually fucking awesome.
This video introduced me to Shame in July, I have just seen them live last week in Seattle (travelled from out of state). Probably the fastest I’ve ever become obsessed with a band. These boys are special, the present and future of rock.
Vus hier soir 20 mai à l'Aéronef de Lille. Quelle pêche, quelle énergie communicative. Bravo et merci pour ce moment électrique de folie!!!
Im over 40 ...shame has been on my spotify for a while. Looked them up here and i had no idea of there age ...WTF?
How can they create so much with that age together?
So beutiful ....so genuin, so much energy. Love it !
the mixing on this is great!
I like it. Yep. There is some good sound here; I'm having fun. The blue shirt guy is adding a lot of color and the drummer is rock solid; it all comes together. This is my favorite of 2018 so far.
great discovery. Thanks KEXP
Mimmo - The Random -
It gives me joy to see actual guitar and bass and guitar, and making something new of old.the love of joy division won't die.
...And drums.
u dont listen to enough music my man
I love music with a guitar and bass and guitar
Nothing new about this at all!
So fucking good. I've been listening to songs of praise for like a week non stop and I can't wait to see them live in Montreal.
Same, same. Can't wait to see them in Montreal too!
The fact that they can play with this much energy in a room of three people speaks volumes of who they are lol
Thank you KEXP for making the musicians so comfortable, this happens.🖤🖤x
I absolutely love this radio!
Greetings from Southern Italy!
Mimmo - The Random -
“I hope you enjoy it, if you don’t it doesn’t matter.” Lol
soooooooo edgy and punky and cool and lol lmao
Cringe
that dude kicks ASS
Such an ignorant thing to say
They won me over with that line
I had no idea what I was going into. This band is insane, I've been obsessed since this video came out. Way too good, I needed that band.
These guys are Stars, best debut album since “Definitely maybe”
I love these lads, ive always loved the London sound, all my fav bands are from there, very exited to see these boys here, Its about time this happened, they are very important
I like the bass so much
I’m listening to this band A LOT at the moment!
Sick, Love this album and I LOVE KEXP for having them perform. Love Angie, shame they didnt play it.
This is good. I like the interaction between the band members.
Randomly stumbled upon them on a music festival and it was the best concert ever I'm obsessed
I love this session so much I think i’ve watched it at least 15 times 🤠
The best UK band at the moment. Great stage presence, strong songs, they can deliver live and they're so funny 9:17 :D
Sad Society are better
Idles, though.
I've just discovered these guys and they have rejuvenated my hopes for a better world of music.
Bassist wearing But hole surfers shirt. Thumbs up to that. He also shouts out Wire "pink Flag" album...incredible
woooowww great great great band... rock n' roll never die
this performance beat me up and took my lunch money
These guys need to come back, saw them 2 and half years ago and I need to see them again!
This is fkn lethal -- My face aches from smiling,
this could go on forever and i wouldn't look away
These guys friggin' kick ass!!
im here every week
that bass sounds beautiful!! They are amazing!!!
Great mix too, great job KEXP!!
I've never heard this band but these guys just rocked the hell out that studio! Excellent performance
Songs of Praise is so good that I can't help but feel jealous of them for writing it.
That was TIGHT!
SO hard to get noise-fringed music like this right, it can so easily turn into sonic sludge if you don't have it locked down. Props lads!
They're fricking amazing!!!
Two serious guys hold the base for two bad boys complete the sonata, while a man full of hate sings his manifesto. Precious formula!
ooo whats this why is it on my feed, and why is something so good that I haven't heard of before! Thanks KEXP and thank you Delvon Lamaar for introducing me to this awesome station!
Oh my God. These guys! Can it be music is becoming better than ever??
a band that is really connected with his public. love it.
Amazing.
Saw them live some months ago and their energy is so freaking amazing
We need more punk bands in KEXP!!!!
This isn't punk.
@@gmantramp404 what are you talking about? They're one of the best punk/post-punk bands in the UK right now
@@zekedimblebee sounds more alternative music from the 80,s
Concrete IS ANTHEMIC !! The whole album is just excellent ... AND these guys smash it live. Go see and do.
Dust on Trial is exactly the track I've wanted to write since I was 17.
Already said several times: KEXP - you are th BEST for new stars. Thanks for Shame. And for 2021: New Shame album - so a new KEXP concert :) KEXP rocks.
Man, Shame is BAD ASS. I am enjoying this. I listen to everything from John Coltrane to Nirvana, to Flipper to Ready for the World, to Depeche Mode to...well you get the point. These guys are super musicians with great energy.
My boys killing it in the States ❤️❤️
'You' boys????.....aren't they their own selves?
+Rachel Harding meant 'your'... D'oh!, me!
fuck u Rachel yr comment sux
They're quite good aren't they? Any other recommendations of current bands from your area? Cheers from southern appalachia, US.
yeah fuck you rachel
Got to see these guys in Columbus Ohio a few months ago. One of the best shows of my life!!
one of my new fav bands
whaou!de la balle!bravo!
Just saw these guys they are definitely bringing the RAW FIRE!
They still seem so young, yet already so developed and confident in their own style... amazing
ugh I wanna be a member of Shame!
me too! so much energy!!!
Wow what a performance.
Friction is probably the best new song I've heard in like 2 years.
The best thing is the undodgeable energy these guys are providing.
Kevin is such a great interviewer, he knows his shit, he respects the band and he enjoys what he does
This is an insane performance from everyone
I am an instant fan SHAME fuckkng kick ass .. great work guys ... can’t wait to see you live
