From what I can tell it looks like the same measurements too. I make it all the time, it’s really easy to make and it’s very good. Really good with vanilla buttercream too.

And I really like dusting the pan with cocoa powder as opposed to flour-it makes sense.
I’ve made several chocolate cakes using various recipes before. Adding hot water into your batter enhances the texture of your chocolate cake. Buttermilk/yogurt, hot water, & a pinch of coffee are secret ingredients for amazing chocolate cake! High quality coco powder helps too

My kids favorite is snoops (and may I add his chicken and waffles are one of our staples around my home as well. Also, my mom taught me about putting chips on sandwiches and thats how uve eaten them as long as I can remember so when we saw that in snoops cookbook we were delighted and just loved it!!) I absolutely looove his cookbook!! And Martha, well I grew up watching her and using her recipes .. I just love her! Her cake is the one my church always begs me to bring to our banquets. So I find that it's really hard to outright pick a fave out of the two cakes.
Cake made with butter is good if not refrigerated... it gets hard the next day. But cake with oil holds better longer i think. I've always preferred cake made with oil...
I feel like they could have gotten opinions from 2-3 more people. Maybe even from someone who doesn’t particularly go for chocolate cake as a first choice the most that way they’d have a diverse set of people instead of just 3 people who all seem to like chocolate cake. I don’t know but it just doesn’t seem to me like they chose to best people to judge this cake but to each their own. I’m just excited that Snoop has such a badass looking cookbook lol

The recipes are really similar. I think the major difference in the flavor is the type of cocoa powder used. It’s obviously going to have a richer, deeper flavor if you use a better quality cocoa powder.
