    Hearing the Undertaker talk that highly
    of Bret tells anyone who was unable to fully or even partly view the extent of which he worked in ring ,took the realism and validation of being champion to heart and overall made every opponent look great that Bret was one of his kind ……Legend

      I've heard Kevin Nash, and I am a fan of his, I am a fan of the members of the Kliq, and Shawn Michaels is one of my all-time favourites, but just because I enjoy them it doesn't mean that I can't criticize a comment, but Nash once basically called Bret Hart a mark for how much he took being champion, having the belt, following the rules, etc. all to heart. Personally, considering that over a quarter of a century later (I'm feeling old lol) the Montreal Screwjob is still talked about constantly, and that it is viewed as one of the most consequential moments in wrestling history, for good and bad, and that fans still argue over it all and that they had to lie to keep the secret and pretend that it was all done by Vince for decades just goes to show that maybe in this case its not the wrestlers who are marks, or well, I should say that Nash and them are marks. They wanted to be figures that can stand in the middle of a ring and be celebrated as heroes, being entertainment gods, but that doesn't come without impacting people's lives, even if a lot is scripted. Bret Hart believed in wrestling, he believed in doing a good job, he believed in entertaining people, he believed in respecting the work and the fans, he respected what being champion truly meant. The whole argument that they worried he wouldn't do business, when he was all about doing business and wanted nothing more than to spend his life wrestling in the WWF. Sure, the Screwjob would lead to the Mr. McMahan character which is an all-time great heel, but its a shame that Bret wasn't respected in WWF in the end, sending him to WCW. There is the obvious of first WCW didn't know how/wouldn't use him properly, wasting all of the eyes that he was drawing, and then Goldberg unfortunately cut Bret's career short. There is also the fact that within the next couple of years a world of incredibly talented workers would jump ship to WWF, such as Chris Jericho, Chris Benoit, Eddie Guerrero, etc. and he could have put on serious bangers. Additionally, its clear that a lot of his generation was able to push through the 2000's building even bigger careers, and then afterward he would have been a great figure for being there to help train the next generation of workers coming through.

    • @donovanjackson3554

      @@Mr.Septon yeah the Screwjob was a series of unfortunate obstacles and occurrences,from Bret prior to that Paper-view telling Shawn he would have no problem losing to Shawn and Shawn thanking and saying he wouldn’t do the same for him,to Bret telling Vince this and Vince faking like he cared to only go with Shawn in the following meeting ,to WCW destroying WWF in the ratings war and Bret leaving as champion definitively ending the war for WWF’s worse for wear. You are right ,Bret was around the wrong crowd of human beings whose moral codes didn’t align with his nor his work ethic,and we were potentially robbed of at least some early 2000s matches with the talent you named

      @ssssssstssssssss 5 месяцев назад +1

      MrSepton The WCW wasted a lot of talent, not just Bret. Even their homegrown star Goldberg, they ended up wasting cause they had too many people not taking things seriously like Hall, Nash and Hogan and they had the inmates running the asylum . Would have been better if there were people who took it seriously like Bret.

    • @Mr.Septon
      @Mr.Septon 5 месяцев назад

      @@donovanjackson3554 absolutely, it wasn't just any one event. It was a whole series of events taking place, one after the other. As much as people complain that Bret Hart was whinny in the end of his WWE career, which was part of his heel character, and he was worried to begin with about doing such promo's for the exact reason that he feared fans would consider him whinny. Looking back though, a lot of those "whinny" promo's about the company not treating him right and everything, it wasn't whinny. It was just more painfully honest than I think he even realized at the time. Bret was so committed to the company that he was willing to take less money, despite working 300+ days a year, and despite the contract he had and Vince just unnecessarily screwed him. The Montreal Screwjob would have been great, if it was a storyline. In reality it was just a lot of politicking and childish business that would indirectly rob us of Bret Hart and any longevity he had in him, and there's no way that Bret and Owen wouldn't have done amazing with the talent that came to the WWE in late 90's and early 2000's. There's also no way that Owen would have been stuck doing that gimmick if Bret had still been around at the time. We were robbed of two wrestling careers and one of their lives altogether. If memory serves, it was in WCW after that in which Davey Boy Smith hurt his back when he landed on a trap door that no one knew was in the ring to keep the surprise of the Ultimate Warrior all the more surprising, which would further ruin his career as he medicated to compensate for pain. I thought the New Hart Foundation stable between Bret, Owen, Niedhart, Davey Boy, and Brian Pillman was a great stable. They made for a great set of heels, they had a great level of talent, and then Brian Pillman was of course unpredictable, which made matches unpredictable, as well as his promo's. The fact that they were a heel stable but then once they got to Canada they were treated as Royal Baby Faces, meaning that even the most white hot baby face Stone Cold would become a heel. It created such an interesting dynamic that I would have loved seen brought more into the storytelling directly. So many missed opportunities.

    • @Mr.Septon
      @Mr.Septon 5 месяцев назад

      @@ssssssstssssssss I definitely don't disagree with you. They just had such a bloated roster and not enough time slots or belts to fit everyone in. On top of that, despite having a slew of amazing talent, they also had a bunch of people who were big names before they even got there with strong contracts and a lot of pull. So a lot of great talent could start with a strong story only to have it drop off randomly, or to take a ridiculous twist, or to just end in such an unsatisfying way. Their cruiser weight division, despite often steeling the show at most shows, were always given an artificial ceiling, even guys like Chris Jericho who struggled and failed to get a match with Goldberg where Goldberg squashes him. He thought there was money in that. He had ideas for things that he could do, and as it is, they never even would have given him time of day doing any mic work other than the fact that one of the times he asked to talk, they just so happened to have a gap to fill (if memory serves) and let him really talk on the mic and got over immediately with people. Seeing talents like that, where they were considered to be mid-carder's at most, and now are (even if you disagree) at least argued by many as one of the greatest to ever be in the business. As it is, people like Eddie Guerrero and Rey Mysterio, who were given good runs, were still largely undervalued by WWE, but fan support got them a better run and more success than WCW at their best was ever going to offer. It's a shame that WCW had so much amazing talent and just not enough room to give them all enough airtime.

      It is an absolute shame that Bret's career was ended short due to that Goldberg kick to the head. I believe like Shawn, had Bret not experienced such a specific injury, he had a lot of years still left in the tank. He was in incredible physical shape, he was crisp and just as good if not better than ever in his career, and there was no reason other than bad booking and then an injury for him to have not had that second run.

    Oh man, hearing Mark do his Stu Hart impression, was absolute gold.
    I have heard many times that the Undertaker thinks very highly of Bret Hart, his skill and dedication, and he has credited him multiple times for being the person who allowed him to showcase to WWF that he could actually wrestle beyond just a small handful of big-man/Deadman moves, which you could argue was a critical factor in Taker being able to make the character last and thrive so long.
    Undertaker isn't the only person to speak this way about Bret though. He often gave wrestlers their chance to showcase their abilities on the big stage for Vince and the world to see. Steve Austin makes a very similar claim to the Undertaker, that it was his matches with Bret Hart that allowed him to show that he could wrestle with more skill than was otherwise seen in him, on top of that it was his match with Bret that would launch his career to a whole other level.
    Bret with his match with the 1-2-3 Kid gave him a very early chance to showcase his extreme talents, and Bret, even though he won, he made 1-2-3 Kid look incredible, winning over the hearts of the fans when you saw how much heart the kid had.
    Both of Bret Hart and the Undertaker are on my personal Mount Rushmore of wrestlers, with Shawn Michaels and Stone Cold Steve Austin. This isn't to say the four are the absolute best, and that no one else can be argued as deserving such a slot, but they're my guys. Bret was a technical master. The Deadman was an amazing monster. Michaels was charisma and high flying. Austin was ATTITUDE.
    Frick, I just want to ramble so much more... lol.

    45 minutes of Bret vs Taker ? I doubt it. Its possible for an overseas house shows, but most of that 45 minutes would be taken up on entrances. Taker's longest matches ever were against HHH and Shane Hell In A Cell.
    A sidenote: Bret's "last match ever" was against Undertaker in 2010. (No contest due to Nexus interference)

    I've always been somewhat curious about Taker and the Screwjob. It's clear he had a lot of respect for Bret, and was initially VERY unhappy about it, but it seemed that a 5 minute chat with Vince and Taker was alright on the situation.
    I'm not taking sides, I'm just curious as to what Vince said to him and whether, in hindsight, it was true or not.

      It wasn't a matter of Vince talking him round. Taker understood the situation, it's just business, but he didn't like how Vince handled the situation and insisted he speak to Bret face to face. McMahon acquiesced and got a dig in the mush from Bret for his trouble.

    If Vince wanted to avoid the screwjob, he should’ve just had Taker take the belt from Bret from one night only and then have Taker lose it to Shawn at Hell in a Cell…you can still have Bret vs Shawn at survivor series except with Bret as challenger, so a DQ finish wouldn’t be a big deal

    Funny thing, Bret would actually gas first in this match. 'Take had done a huge cardio program running up to it. Doink beat Bret on a house show. Papa Shango was supposed to return, circa 1995. This would lead to a storyline that would explain Mr. Backlund 'snapping'. He'd be under Shangos spell, yes sir. Yes indeed. Vince nixed it at the last minute, yes he did. Lawler fought Piper in the cage on house shows. Crush's heel turn WAS best for business, looking back. Razor could've been world champion at one point, yes sir. 'Take is the only wrestler Owen wouldn't rib. Speaking of ribs, Austin ribbed Shawn with the pink tape around his arms, lol. It was... It was a shoot.
