It's incredible how well this show has aged. Hard to believe that this was shot almost 60 years ago. I'm happy that we are fortunate to be able to watch it again.
61. Sometime I watch this show, and I see him and think ..."dang...he only lived 30 years more". Ted Bessell's daughters are a human rights attorney, and a scientist engineer...very cool..and, they both look like him. They have his mouth and eyes.
I absolutely loved THAT GIRL, great show, one of my favorites & loved all the cast, especially the way Ann & Donald were so crazy about each other in this sitcom--Marlo was adorable as Ann Marie & Ted as Donald was the perfect match of a boyfriend for her. She was very funny in it as well. I don't remember how long this show ran, but it was a hit with me for certain.
I love wearing dresses when I go out even if it's just to run errands. There's just something about wearing a dress that gives off 'I'm a lady' vibe, as long as it's not one of those skimpy bodycon dresses that is 😂 but to each it's own
Great episode and a great show. Ann and Don couldn't be any cuter! I think every father has called his daughter Miss Independence at one time or another. Lew and Ann are very believable as father and daughter.
It was great great for about two seasons. Then most of us girls thought the engagement being so long and some of the scenarios were getting silly. I think Lew Ayres being the excellent actor he was, did a lot with the part of the Dad. He knew how to steal a scene. Marlo could get these old stars cuz of her father!! 💕
This probably won't be a popular opinion, but I don't find Ann's father very likeable. He's a little too meddlesome and controlling for me and not just in this episode, but throughout the series. In this case he's more concerned with his own selfish interests versus what is best for his daughter's career. Thanks so much for posting all of these episodes of "That Girl". And a special thank you for having them so organized! It's a great series!
Yes, I think nobody deserves such a selfish controlfreak. In real, a nice girl could never can make such a dominant and self-important man happy. He is a kind of mental sick and not divine! If women growing up with such role models they maybe choosing a similar partner. The authority of the father makes the series so backwards and the whole character is not funny or friendly at all. To me, that father reminds me of a narcissistic person.
I was born in the early 60´s and just discovered this great show in 2019 watching it on Antenna TV, I drop cable and changed to Aerial TV Antenna. Great Show, I Like It a Lot. I have discovered a lot on old good shows with the Aerial Outdoor TV Antenna.
Mousse4444, you said this very,WELL!!!...IT HAS AGEED WELL.,,60 YRS,i was born 1941 i,LOVE,LOVE,LOVE ,,THAT GIRL!!! IT HAS MADE ME SOOOOOOOOO,Happy.. ❤❤
I liked the dad. He was crusty on the outside but a teddy bear deep down inside. He has funny sarcastic one-liners. As a young girl, I loved this show! Loved Ann’s outfits and I wanted to marry a man like Donald Hollinger! 😂
I do not see it that way at all. The father often controls his daughter's privacy. He does not respect her independent position and has little respect for her circle of friends. He always wants to impose his ideas and behaves stupidly and ridiculously. He's more irreverent than funny and stubborn than whimsical. I think he is a typical small-minded person who behaves like a dictator. I feel sorry for his wife and his daughter.
my older sisters loved this show... I didn't really care for it , but what are you going to do when you're outnumbered....girls really like'd this show... actually it was quite groundbreaking... a single girl, on her own, making her way in the world...I guess she was an inspiration.....
wow, learn something everyday... her character was from Brewster New York.... that's sort of, kind of where I grew up....or maybe it could be Brewster conn.? or pa? or any other state for that matter.. I imagine every State has a Brewster....so I m all mixed up.
Lew Parker tragically smoked himself to death not long after the show. He actually collapsed on stage during a performance and died soon after. Marlo Thomas:"Lew never had children so he kind of adopted me."
It’s sad that Marlo Thomas is no longer recognizable now with all the fillers and plastic surgery that’s left her botched! She was so lovely and adorable here, just a natural pretty gal😢
In 1996 Ted and Marlo were writing a That Girl revival in which Ann was a widow and Don was divorced. Frankly I think it never would have worked. Nobody would have wanted to see Ann and Don married to other people. The fans would have put that one on the non cannon shelf and deliberately ignored it. The only revival the fans would have watched is one where we learned that Ann and Don married after the last episode.
Perhaps she should have changed her name to Marie Lou (her fathers name reversed.) On another note, isn't she going to lose Marie when she gets married? I guess the father is ok with another man changing her name.
My daughter’s last name is Lynn…..doesn’t matter, she’s been called by her full name her entire life…..me too until I divorced……. Anne Marie…..same deal.
@@tubester4567 what are talking about ? if you watch the show, Don calls Ann’s father Mr. Marie. Ann often has to point out that her last name is Marie … Marie is the sur name for Ann and her family.
In the real world, Ann would've been fired as a waitress...she kept flubbing on the waitress job, as if she should be the exception so she can badger her agent. That squeaky voice and her perils of finding actress jobs gets annoying.

Very sad
I feel fortunate to have lived through those times!
Ted Bessel was such a warm hearted guy. He died very young

That Girl, Rhoda and Mary Tyler Moore were my fav shows growing up.
This episode is so touching and heartwarming 👍👍👍👍👍
Love the sweet ending. Ann finally realised that whilst changing the name was to help her career, it was pointless if it hurts her father so much

five years
1966 - 1971.
Such a unique idea to open every episode with Marlo's face and someone pointing out THAT GIRL!!
I recently saw a picture of Marlo Thomas. She looks very different than how she looks when she was doing that girl. She wore very large eyelashes. 😊
Marlo is a winner. That show was good, namely the final episode.
Those were the years that women wore dresses. The shows were light and entertaining!
She wore pants in the last season! Her outfits were and are truly the best

They didn't get engaged until Season 5. Mr. Marie was played by Lew Parker, not Lew Ayres.
The engagment only lasted for one season
My favorite show as a little girl. Been enjoying these episodes; Marko just sparkles with charm and warmth. I love her and Ted Bessel.
I loved watching this show so few girls on tv looked like me. I was 5 when I stared watching this and I still love it

The 1960s judged through a 21st century lense.
Considering Daddy was obviously funding Miss Independent’s NYC lifestyle, I’d say he has a vested interest.
And you know what, Marlo and Lew really loved each other.

I may make Tuna fish myself today sounds good
The opening credits always made me think it was "Curb Your Dog" starring Marlo Thomas when I was little.
Don't know why but this episode brought hope to my ❤️.
It DOES say "Curb Your Dog"

11:39 How many people who are an only child would call their parent and identify themselves? "Hello Mom? Ann."
I was named after That Girl!
Loved Loved That Girl
Flags down a cab and takes the bus 😂

She is inspirational for me too and I am a man !!!
Pre- Mary Tyler Moore…..
i love Marlo Thomas, my favorite opening of That Girl is season 2 thru 4, i have a That Girl doll with Ann holding her flag
Wow! Those parents were sure controlling! 😂 Duke Slater as the agent....great stuff! 😊

the Dial Phone!!
I just love me some Lou Marie! 😂❤
Ann is so busy talking when she calls her agent that she dials an eight-digit phone number
My love that girl
Soon as dad showed up I couldn’t wait for the scene to complete. Then, I thought old geez was nuts. Now I am a geez (ggf) and I still can’t stand him.
Will Anne Marie ever be gainfully employed soon somewhere? She spends more time job hunting than working. She is extremely energetic and optimistic.
When Ann is watching the credits and she says, “That’s me.” 😢
Lew Parker tragically smoked himself to death not long after the show. He actually collapsed on stage during a performance and died soon after. Marlo Thomas:"Lew never had children so he kind of adopted me."
I really loved the episode!
I wonder if Rose Marie was the inspiration for Ann Marie. Both shows were produced by Danny Thomas.
I wonder what Ann's apartment would be worth or rent for today.
8 to 10k a month. Maybe more.
I didn't know TED,BISSLE PASSED. 😢 WHAT A BEAUTFUL SHIW!!!!😂😂❤❤
I wonder how many W2 Ann get in a year. Since she works so many outside job.
Ann's agents; Seymour Schwimmer, Sandy Stone, Harvey Peck, George ???. There may have been more, but I lost track.

Cool Ford Mustang! ✌🏻✌🏻
Sure, it should be a running gag in the series, but in reality such a father is more respectless than protecting.

Coloquen los capitulos en español, me gustaba mucho esa serie, y todavía me gusta. Pero No hablo ingles
Mr Marie told his wife to Get the coffee not please or do you mind wow
Ann needs to focus on her job.

Why not use her mother's maiden name with Ann Marie as her first name? It's not rocket science.
Brilliant
Because the family’s full last name is Marie … that’s why

Judy is annoying .
What an annoying show. The crossed eyed Marlo screeching "Donald" every other line!
The dad is always such a dick. Always hated his character!
