I love how the lightsabers look in the sequel trilogy. They look so raw and aggressive and they finally got the lighting right. It feels real. But I see the problem with how the lightsabers look in the Disney+ shows. They look more like lightsabers in a Fanfilm. That's the look of these shows in general. They look like a Fanfilm.
I agree that’s a good way to put it they do look a lot like sabers in fan films. What about the first point where I think you can see the edge, do you agree??
@@Joesith_ I get your point with the edge but I also must say that I haven't even noticed it, which means that it probably doesn't really bother me 😅 As long as the lighting is right, the sabers look real and the action looks cool, the rest can't mess it up for me, I guess.
The real problem is lightsabers work wrong now. We saw Kenobi hitting a stroomtrooper with a lightsaber in episode 4 and it bounced back. It’s a lightsaber not a bat
@@Joesith_ That was because Vader’s suit is made to protect from lightsaber. We normally see lightsabers cutting stroomtroopers very easily. Also What about Kylo dashing finn in episode 7? He should’ve been ripped in half, paralyzed at least
I have a bigger problem with the duels: there’s no verticality. Even Luke v Vader in episode 6 had them going up and down stairs, Luke jumped up to higher platforms, ducked under stairs, and tried to position himself in advantageous places. Now it’s just people swinging baseball bats at each other on a flat plain.
I feel that I feel like the force awakens had it a little bit for sure but that’s probably the last time tbh, there’s an argument the Death Star duel of the rise of skywalker had it but not really
@@Joesith_ yeah, Death Star kinda had it, but even then it was like flat place to new flat place, but that fight has other issues so I won’t be super picky ab that
I completely agree and glad I’m not the only one who thought this. The blades just look off. They seem thicker, heavier and also the hilt seems bigger and more clumsy. They figured out that the green sticks worked just fine in the original and prequel trilogies. So why did they have to go and change something that already worked ?
I agree, the tip looks weird, and the light sabers in Kenobi looked way to bright Lukes light saber from the mandolorian looks like a toy, the sequel trilogy light sabers looked nice with the slight glow They were a little bit flawed in the look aspect of things but over all really nice looking Also the way they cut through stuff is bad, sometimes they might use the tip but most of the time it makes no sence
Yeah I agree, the Luke one always felt off to me but I couldn’t pin point it because it wasn’t the same problem as the other for me so I didn’t mention it. Overall I still think the sequel ones are best but sadly it’s only sometimes as like mentioned about Rey in TLJ that scene looks terrible And I agree on the last part
I honestly don't mind, and personally I feel like the kenobi series lighting was mostly symbolic/color lighting rather than the lightsaber. i don't think we're going to see a lot of this brightness problem in the future (and if it continues, i don't mind because i like it)
Exactly!! Why can’t people enjoy a story!?? Why does it all have to be “Perfect THIS!!!” Or “PERFECT THAT!!!” If it’s a good story, then accept and be a fan, gaming over graphics homie 😄
you cannot see any plastic tho?! they use the real prop just to light the subject then they replace the blade completely with cg. so it literally is not humanoy possible to see the plastic blade
I agree you can tell in the Luke Scenes in the camera he’s using some kind of Shoto length blade and the same with the order 66 scene in Kenobi. You can tell definitely they look heavier to wield. Also some scenes they lack the glow. It spoils the magic for me personally a little that the lightsabers are the same as what I have at home 😂 I like the CGI more.
Though remember in the clone wars series when Anakin and Obi Wan are stuck in the caves when trapped by Dooku. They do use lightsabers as Light sources so it isn’t uncommon for that. It just isn’t the same in Rise of Skywalker
Absolutely correct man. Just had a conversation about this the other day with a huge Star Wars fan. There is something so non threatening about disneys lightsabers. I think, like you said, it has a lot to do with how obviously prop like it looks. When I look at Disneys lightsaber, I don’t believe for a second that they can cut through things. They look like bouncy illuminated plastic. More apparent is how difficult it now seems for Jedi “masters” like Obi wan to wield them. Why is a blade of light so heavy? (We know why, but for lores sake). Films or shows, they all look terrible imo. Bring back Science fiction to Star Wars, not realism. It’s a Galaxy far far away, not a downtown abandoned western film set where people have duels that look like they just picked up the hilt.
Thank you! Oh man, lightsabers now have been bugging me and I didn't think anyone agreed with me or saw what I saw. I first noticed it when Luke showed up in Mando season 2. His green lightsaber looked dim to me, like a Stickley pale green and not the usual beautiful vibrant green from ROTJ. Every time he would swing it, it looked like a toy, a pale barely lit toy. Yes I do like that they give off light now, but they also have to make every fight in a dark room or at night now to show off that they give off light. I also think that since they don't use sticks like in the prequels, they can't hit as hard and that(along with bad choreography) is also making the fight scenes worse. Thank you for this video, I know now I'm not alone.
The new way is soooo much better. I've always hated how inconsistent Lightsaber's light was. there wasn't any. There would be a glow effect around the saber, but it wouldn't illuminate anything around it. Luke's face when he ignites the saber on the Deathstar after Vader taunts him isn't glowing green, Vader isn't using his saber like a flash light to find him and he should be... Now, they are actually glowing! It was the best decision Disney has made with Star Wars.
I understand why you think it looks too much like a prop. For me the sequel trilogy and The Disney plus shows i could even better then I actually ever could imagine what it would be like to hold a lightsaber. The weight of the blade and the vibration and light it created felt more real then it ever did. They were much brighter in Obi-Wan Kenobi, but for me it looked really good in my opinion. The fights were in dark lighting, but because the lightsabers were so bright I could really easily follow the lightsaber fight scenes because of the light they were emitting. It was cool how all the lighting was from the lightsabers for me. If the fights were in a well lit scene like the middle of the day I might think it is too bright, but in the dark I think it works.
Prequels were the best, i miss the sabers then. Not sure if realistically this makes sense. But for example in that scene you added with anakin vs obiwan in ep 3, as they are fighting, the sabers slightly go askew and are perfectly straight. I just am nostalgic for that look more than the prop look they use now. I do like ep 7 though, besides the fact that the sabers bounce
my only problem with using these types of lightsabers, is that they are much heavier than they were in the prequels which limits certain moves and slows them a lot more. Look at any fight in the sequels and compare them with Anakin vs Obi-Wan, you'll quickly notice that they go wayyyy faster in the prequels.
That may potentially be intentional as we learn in clone wars with Padmé and book of boba with Mando the saber can appear heavy depending on who’s wielding it due to the connection with the kyber crystal
@@Joesith_ Anakin Vs Obi-Wan for sure. Ive been addicted to his music recently and I fell in love with: Anakin Vs Obi Wan (that's the name of the music not the fight), Anakin's betrayal/A path I cant follow (they are the same but different, just trust me bro), The Boys Continue and Battle of the Heroes. Fair enough I think the second one is definitely a bigger issue but do you not think you can see like the actual edge of the blade in a way an energy sword probably shouldn’t look like? If not then fair enough it is subjective

I feel like the brightness in Kenobi is more of a stylistic choice for that scene alone
Potentially I guess we’ll have to wait until the next project to see if that style continues
