Hey Doddy, Just love the GMBN Tech. I don't know how to start this talk, but when you started to to talk about Marin County, the epicenter of mt biking I was about 7-10 years after the start of mt. biking. I was born and raised in Marin County. In 1989 I got my first mt. bike, Specialized Hard Rock, it was ok. I upgraded 3 months later with faster, and better gear set to 1989 rockhopper comp, that changed everything. I still that bike today with lots of changes etc... I would love to go in more of the history of Mt. biking. The bike crew I rode with they rode with Gary Fisher back in the day. Ok I started back up this year riding the 1989 rockhopper comp, my friend asked to go mt biking with him, I had a 1989 rockhopper comp they both had santa cruz full susp. bikes, I was just as fast on the down hill as them. It is a big story on all mt bikes, this is not the whole story and I am not in way putting down full susp, or hardtail. I just what to here from other people like myself that started in the 1980's when they mt. bike and moved up to a hardtail or full susp and when they moved to hardtail and full susp. Doddy keep up the great work and tech, history, and etc.

Hey that's ok. Back in the day I had a hub 3x7 and made it 3x6 and my hubs are 125mm. My bike was a 1989 rockhopper comp. Glad you are mt biking, rock on. Shred the mountain.
low = more stable (less tipsy) and more clearance issues esp pedal strike potential but also hitting BB on obstacles you are going up and over. High = more clearance and less issues with clearance but not quite as locked in on turns/cornering from having a higher center of gravity due to the higher BB. He did explain this.
No, since WD-40 is NOT a lubricant. It may seem so, because it makes seized bearings, hinges and the like move again, but its viscosity is way too low and it also dissipates very fast. It is engineered to creep into tight spots and make metal parts move, nothing more. In fact, it dissolves lubricants and will therefore damage the parts you mentioned.
Hi Doddy! Awesome video, as always! What are the differences between the boost and super boost? Is it to accommodate more gears? I believe that's the reason for it keeping increasing historically...? PS. Man, you speak fast! x)
@@Will99x thanks for clarifying! So...with that in mind, superboost hubs would be more suitable for tougher, heavy duty, all terrain bikes then? But haven't gears been diminishing in width over the years to accommodate more? My 8 and 9 gear cassettes are thicker than today's 12th gear cassettes.
@@mllobetc yeah in theory they would suit more aggressive riding. The width of the cassette is largely limited by the size of the freehub body (the part of the hub that the cassette slides on to) and that has not changed width, rather the spacing of the gears/cogs are just closer (and the chain thinner) the more gears you have.
@15.45 ... about tire tread design patterns... does a comparison chart exist that equates the similar tread design patterns between different tire manufacturers? I have searched for this but had no luck find one. If this does not exist, why?
Besides a larger pad surface area, is there really any benefit to 4 piston calipers? I've always been of the opinion that a larger rotor(greater leverage) is the best way to increase braking force.
It is not even larger surface area, I have Hope V2 brakes on my DH, which are HUGE two-piston brakes. I have found (and read some time ago somewhere) that brake pads don't tend do wear down unevenly as much with four-piston brakes, because the braking force can be distributed better across the caliper. Since brake pads tend to be pulled together on the calipers entry side, applying more force on the other side may provide better braking performance.
I found this video very informative. I do have another question about frame sizes. I'm 6ft7 and around 19 stone (120kg). I'm currently looking for a new bike and have been so concentrated on frame size. Would there be any instances of an L size frame having a longer reach than an XL sized frame. I'm confused to high hell and don't know where to start. Please help me!!! Thanks
Between manufacturers you will probably find instances where the reach is longer on a L in brand A than an XL in brand B. But the reach within each brand will be longer on an XL than a L.
#AskGMBNTech I have a GX eagle shifter I always get confused what gear I'm on because the shifter doesn't have a screen that shows you what gear you are on. So please help how do I tell what gear I am on a GX eagle shifter 😭😭

#AskGMBNTech I am using wide rims, so my tires are closer to my bike frame. I want a narrower tire, can I still use my wide rims with more narrow tires?
Can you have a tutorial on how to choose a bb ...I recently purchased a bb and it was a tad bit to long so it made my chain ring and cranks go out to far lining it up with 11 cog and as I shift up to my 38 cog it would cause my chain to just pop of the chain ring ...I think this would be helpful for the next set of upcoming mtb ers....that want to know how ...thanks for all the videos very helpful !
