It was exciting to see that you were in Albany, as that’s where I’ve been watching your videos for the past few years! Bravo on all your hard work. I’m an Albany-based professional genetic genealogist, specializing in difficult cold cases. Reach out if you ever need anything in Albany, or a second opinion about anything.
This is why its important not to alter or bury history. This isnt only important on a small scale for families desiring to learn about their lineage, but also for generations of humans worldwide to know truly what happened and where and what people before us lived through.
Congratulations Danialle, I just listened to you being interviewed on that podcast ( forget their name) & I want you to know there's going to be more, as you came across poised & relaxed (even if you weren't 😊). As a biracial man ,I have ties from Scotland to Nigeria , & I grew up with a stepfather whose whole family were creoles & I now think were " redbone". When you had you're list of last names common to these particular people their family name of " Johnson " came up. When I saw a couple of your videos, I'm almost 95% ,positive that they were among these folks. I went to Louisiana when I was 10 to meet them & I remember them having a foot in African American culture , but clearly saw that they saw themselves as their own thing as well. You've made me rethink alot of things. Keep doing you & continue to be fearless in your pursuit of the truth. I think we have a racial smog in this country that we all live with in, & I think talking more , not less, is the answer to clarity.
I recently found a relative's grave that I hadn't ever seen in person, but had seen in my family photos for my whole life. It's also in the town where I was born.
I am so happy, joy filled, for you that you not only found Lola's grave, it was in plain site across the street from her salon. Blessings to you and all who descend from Miss Lola.
Hi Danielle. I'm glad that you were able to find Lola's grave. Your RUclips journey started by digging into her/ your past, and now you're at 100k+ subscribers! What a ride! 😮😊 This particular vid reminded me of the "Finding Your Roots" episode with Liv and Steven Tyler. They visited the grave of their ancestor who was black/ part black and served in the Civil War. Aside from fighting in the war, he also served as the drummer for his platoon or unit. Steven was also a drummer before he became lead vocalist. It was also a cold snowy day when they visited the grave of their ancestor. Cheers and blessings to you & your family. I've been with you since 2k or 5k subs, I think! 👍
The optics in this video are fantastic to me. As a fan of horror, the cloaked woman in a cemetery on a foggy day seeking a snow-covered grave is a whole movie. It's interesting how far we can venture while searching for something only to find it right under our nose. Thank you, Danielle. ❤
I was watching the Don Lemon episode on Finding Your Roots and I believe that Perot/Perrot name was listed on his tree. You all may be cousins, his family is rooted in Louisiana.
I find your story relatable. My family secret was that my great grandfather was a foundling abandoned on a street in Italy. I've been working to put his story back together through DNA. I have yet to visit his grave, you have inspired me to do just that.
Brava Danielle! Hearing more about Lola always warms my heart, helps me feel more connected to my lineage and always brings a tear. Seeing her birth/passing dates, they are nearly identical to my grandparents. We already established my dad's mom lived in Troy on 5th Ave at the same time as some of your peeps. I lived on 2nd Ave until I was 1 and then up in Albia from 1959-1972. I can't help but wonder if we all chatted together at DeFazio's on 4th Ave while buying some prosciutto or provolone back in the day. 🤷🏻♂️🤔😅🇮🇹 My folks are both up in Saratoga at the VA Cemetery. I go there whenever I get back east. I haven't tracked down my grandmother's grave since her funeral in the 60's. I'm now inspired to do so thanks to your work. 🙏❤️
Thank you for your work. This started for you as a personal quest, but in the process you have freed many other people to,pursue their own truth, rather than the ‘cute’ fibs families tell about their heritage. RUclips is making a grave error in banning/blocking honest stories.
You look a lot like your grandma Lola. You are telling her secrets. You are her voice now. I’m Sicilian. My great grandfather came from Trapani to Louisiana. Married a white woman. Every one of their children was a different shade of melanin. Only one girl was blue eyed fair skin as her mother. I’m very proud of my Sicilian, Cajun and English ancestors. I know where each generation male reached America. Edgerly 1667 New Hampshire Broussard 1755 Virgilio 1850 Each man knew who they were as men and were survivors. They fought for their families.
Thank you for your bravery and your perseverance. My people (Maternal) are from Natchitoches and our branch of the family wound up in New York and New England. I found a lot of documents, met a lot of relatives in person and on social media. But I wish I had more pictures! Not sure why anyone would flag genealogy videos ((!?!?!)) But thank you for sharing your story with us.
That is a very peaceful resting place for your grandmother. I haven't visited my grandparents grave in far too long. After watching this I feel it's time to go and say hi to them again.
Thank you for continuing to share your family story. It's important. 💕 from New Jersey with deep colonial roots in South Carolina and Florida of Black Folks.
I discovered the graves of my 2x great-grandparents in November 2021. My mother didn't know anything about these great-grandparents of hers. My genealogical research showed they came to the USA, a fact I never imagined. As I stood at their graves praying, I felt like I was connecting to them in a way I never had before. It was such a spiritual experience to "meet" these ancestors and tell them about my children, their 3x great-grandchildren. And now they are married, there's another generation in the chain!
Proud of you sharing your journey. One day I'll go bacc to Cloutierville and after the work I did last year that cemetery is gonna feel way way different. Anyways, much love to y'all.
Thank you for sharing this personal story. It is true that there are many, many stories, buried and forgotten, that should be remembered. You are fortunate to have so much information to draw on. I am still trying to track back to some of my ancestors, and just come up with zero results. But you inspire me to keep digging.
I started getting a little too emotional to talk! I was editing the video and like shoot, this is too vague. I meant to say, I know her body is there, but "she" is not there any more
@nytn Ohhh okay 😊. I also make these cemetery journeys. I feel it is soo important to know your story and connect to the people that made you possible. I love watching your journey and knowing I'm not the only one who still does these things🫶
Bless you, I don’t think I will ever figure out who is my ancestor that carries the black dna but at least I know this much but I wish I knew more of their story, at least you know and there is peace in knowing
Just think of all the people who are cremated, they leave behind nothing for the future generations to find, no headstone, no grave. Just a record on paper or on computer.
Your great grandmother and my great grandmother on my mom side were the same age. She's the only great grandmother to never meet me since she died in 19875and I wasn't born until 1984. Could have gone to school together. My great grandmother lived in Florida so it would have been unlikely they would have ever met. I think one of her kids actually did live in New York.
LOLA was BEAUTIFUL and AMBITIOUS! Those two factors had a great impact on her behavior. She did what she thought was BEST for her! We ALL should do the same!
Do u feel hypocritical now checking off that same “W” passing box? I’m assuming it’s because of how u were raised, however now that we know the truth will u change that box that u have assimilated to? I feel it will bring closure❤
You look like her in her wedding photo. I'm Catholic too and I was wondering if you know if the cemetery was supposed to be for whites only as so many were.
You know I often wonder , if our ancestors want their secrets revealed, after they have taken them to the grave for whatever reason. Do we disrespect their wishes doing so?

As a African American, I can tell your grandma had mixture of African ancestry, beautiful lady
She was part of you and I am glad you found her grave site. Be at peace and blessings to you and your family
Thank you, it felt like a sense of completion!

I missed that!! Thanks, I’m going to go look
I'm glad she made it out. Louisiana and Texas are places where people are dumped and forgotten, never to be seen or heard from again.
Trust me, there was never a future here. Still isn't.
So beautiful your connection & her story needed to be told ,.it was her chosen name not fake name

I love your hooded cape!
Thank you! It felt a bit dramatic but it’s all I had flown with to New York lol
@@nytn It looks great and drama is almost always fun (almost always as some drama isn't, lol)
I dreamed about a hooded cape and I clicked on your video and there you are in a hooded cape ❤❤❤ love from a girl fan ❤❤❤
What a touching moment. I just know your ancestors are happy.

The ending I did not expect!
You look so much like her in her wedding picture. Good for you. I love stories like this.
I’m so glad you found her resting place it’s quite something to know a few feet under the ground where you stand is the woman who is part of you

I was enhancing images of my grandmother and noticed that we have similar facial features at her wedding age
Lovely ❤
Proud of you😊❤️

Hey you got some closer and understanding
I clicked so fast! Thank you for sharing your family story.
That is so kind of you to say. Thank you for being with me
amazing video. very emocional
❤ Always love your updates. That is a beautiful place. Did you say her body is not there? I think I misunderstood you, but I listened twice.

The French Lieutenant’s Woman called and said you add flair to that winter wear. Keep warm both literally and figuratively, intrepid explorer.

Zu Pu is the geneology of chinese family/clans and it is meticulously kept for generations. We could learn a lot from them :)

You can usually find a caretaker that can tell you, based on last name, what plots were owned by a given family.
Some of my Louisiana relatives did this . They wanted a better life.,😓
…we are so clueless about this life and our surroundings, history, people…
LOLA was BEAUTIFUL and AMBITIOUS! Those two factors had a great impact on her behavior. She did what she thought was BEST for her! We ALL should do the same!

Creole people are the most mixed in the USA.

You look like her in her wedding photo. I'm Catholic too and I was wondering if you know if the cemetery was supposed to be for whites only as so many were.
this one was not segregated as far as I know, but it was only Catholic. Im going to look into it! It's called Our Lady of Angels in albany, NY I think
Pray for her ! like this : ETERNAL REST GRANT UNTO HER OH LORD AND LET PERPETUAL LIGHT SHINE UPON HER MAY SHE REST IN PEACE AMEN
Sorry but, why should we pray for the dead?
@@azborderlands Are you Catholic ?
You know I often wonder , if our ancestors want their secrets revealed, after they have taken them to the grave for whatever reason. Do we disrespect their wishes doing so?
No, people should tell the truth and we would not have to do so much research.
Black is beautiful baby
