  • Rail Diesel Car (RDC) #9166 is currently owned & operated by Reading Blue Mountain & Northern Railroad and runs along with its companion #9168. I rode the "Budd Car" from Reading Outer Station to Jim Thorpe for a total of 120 miles round trip. The rails covered a lot of land in quiet, forested parts of Pennsylvania as well as a tunnel and a 160-foot high viaduct. We had around a 4-hour stay at Jim Thorpe before the RDC's brought us back to Reading...which there will be a follow-up video to this showcasing what I did during some of my time there (it involves RBMN diesel #2013 and a view from one of the best seats in the house).
I'm not going into the history or details about RDC's (aka "Budd Cars") aside from I've found out that #9166 used to come through my home town up until passenger service was discontinued in 1981. Dad used to take us down to the station to watch it roll in, and its wheels have squashed more than one penny for me, some of which I'm sure I still have. Viewers of this channel don't typically go much for my train videos, but this channel is more than just dead and dying retail. I also like to showcase "out and about" places in the general area where I live and/or vacation. I would hope to hit a broad variety of viewers, so if you don't see stuff you like now, stick around and I'll eventually get back to a topic you might like.

So, if the RDC's operated in your town until 1981 then you must have lived near the Foxchase - Newtown line.
Service ended there in 1981 when an RDC and an oil tanker collided in Southampton Pa.

I lived near the West Trenton Line and have photographs on slides of RDC's through various points along the line.
