    Been on and off a grader since I was 17, was once a finish grade operator, taught by the best.... my dad who was highly regarded as one of the best road builders in the state...2% crown is the standard

      +William Head Nice coincidence I am 17 at the moment and I'm actually at the moment learning to become a grader operator, well not just a grader operator, I'm learning road construction in general so basically everything about road construction and maintenance there is and all the different machines that are used in road construction and maintenance. But the machine we learn and get the most practice on is the grader. I'm being taught by the best. My school has two graders a Corbex-Vammas CG-18 and a Veekmas RG-286. So far we've had practice only on the Corbex-Vammas CG-18 grader, but from my group I am the only one who wants to become a grader operator, there are a few other guys who say that they could do it if necessary but they would not do it on a regular basis and well most the others who are left say that they don't want to have anything to do with a grader.

    Very interesting!
    Is the video sped-up a little bit in some places? Or are you super-lightning-fast on the controls? (Maybe it's both?)

    That would have to be a champion brand of grader. Used a newer one once to build dirt bike tracks. Was a good SMALL grader, and the up and down on one side fuck with my brain, I'm used to the CAT.

    Bad habit lifting the arms at the end of a run.You should always roll the mouldboard backwards to feather out loose material,that way you don't get a bump.

    A grader or dozer operator I am not. And I won't pretend to be one, as I suck at both.

    both controls on one side would have my brain smokin. guess u get used to it. decent enough job for a driveway. put a smooth drum on it be fine for years. Narrow roads like that are not ideal to build. need grade hubs in CL to be right on the $. not a bad job tho.

    I like grader, just not smart enough to read stakes and stay on grade. I can make ditches and crown just fine though.
    I also do not know how some operators can drive that faster then 2nd gear. going fast with these breaks shit or makes you look like a jackass when you get caught on something and start spinning wheels. snow plowing is a different story. just float the blade and haul ass with a very aggressive heal/toe angle

      William Head As it should be. Its the hardest piece of heavy equipment to operate. I've seen a lot of guys get fired on the spot bcz of their performance in a grader. I am neither a grader operator or a dozer guy. This is just my opinion.

    Left side could be turning the blade and sliding it sideways, but I'm just guessing - I don't drive a grader myself, though I'd love to.

    Your good material is in the ditch. All thats happening here is moving shit to the center of the crown. The large stones should be on the tire path.

  • @fordbroncodave

    really isn't hard, the outermost controls on both sides is up/down on each side of the blade, the controls on the right side are blade movement, saddle... Its only been 6 months and I forgot what the stuff on the left side does lol

    Then, just out of curiosity, how do you get it from point A to point B? It has an engine, it has a transmission, it has tires, it has a steering wheel. It turns to the left, it turns to the right, it goes forward and it goes backward. In the video he is CLEARLY driving it. He goes forward. He goes in reverse. He turns. When did that become "not driving"?

    Its not driving if you're moving earth. If you have to move it from point A to B you'd say " Yeah Chris, why don't you run it on down to point B" haha well that's what I'd say anyway

  • @Alaskaforby4

    by watching this you really don't have the whole grasp of how to use a motor grader

    • @banjogregcantrell6235
      @banjogregcantrell6235 8 лет назад +2

      +Justin Thoennes ,. Understood if you are in fact a motorgrader operator, you do know there are many other things these machines are capable of doing. I like the job he is doing. It is by far from a big grade job on a highway. Still, good operating for where he is working.

    • @adamsamuel9484
      @adamsamuel9484 8 лет назад +1

      +Greg “Banjo Greg” Cantrell You like the job he is doing cause you don't have a clue what proper crown looks like, or what blading techniques to use. This is a small job done poorly!

    • @brunotinnuri4740
      @brunotinnuri4740 8 лет назад

      +Justin Thoennes Well you are right. There are a lot better ways to operate a grader but he is doing a pretty decent job. Working on a grader is no easy job, it's hard as hell.
