to me, this is the ultimate blend of work and lifestyle camera. It forces you to focus on taking pictures, where we've gotten used to just the process, but not experiencing what we're doing. On my dslr I used the top lcd display solely with my rear screen turned off and just getting used to knowing what settings work with the current lighting I'm in. Switching to a mirrorless I lost that top lcd display and were in need of some kind of screen to remember my settings, and slowly I got more and more used to chimping on the rear screen. I'll be getting this camera because I sense that it's one of those cameras that make you interested in photography again and not just tech.
That's so interesting they offer different options like that for the screens; I don't have much knowledge about Fujifilm cameras, but they seem to be contributing to the market in their own ways and staying competitive. I probably wouldn't spend the extra money for my needs
I borrowed and shot this camera for a day from Fuji's House of Photography London and I like it. My back ground was originally film and I've recently had my Leica M3 serviced and using it again. I've owned since the 80's when I was a professional re-toucher in London, the studio used Nikon SLR and Hasselblad, which where modern! so for personal use I bought the retro M3 (I would say it was more old fashioned then, than it is now thanks to scanning), I also had the M8, terrible screen and a Lumix G1 with the screen turned it for 3 years before I remembered it was there.. I am, you may of guessed not a chipper, to the point that I should do it more. I mis-set the minimum shutter speed flash sync on a X100S (it cycles full round the values whereas the on the M8 it stopped top or bottom, so I'd moved it past the fastest sync and ended up on the lowest at a wedding and when i got home the backgrounds where double shadowed and blurred. Anyhow, for me photography is a hobby now and whatever camera you have, once you add up the lenses, filters, bag etc it costs a lot of money. I have a tone of cheap stuff, house hold goods, vacuum cleaners, kids toys etc made in China. I have very little stuff made elsewhere, so it's also nice to have a Made in Japan camera, Made in Switzerland watch, Made in Germany car. Made in France Saxophone for the luxury things that I tend to keep for a long time. (watch 35 years, car 19, Saxophone 25). Is there a difference in quality, well there can be but not guaranteed. Does it perform better? in Fuji's case No.This camera performs exceptionally well and has a lot of personality, if it meets your photographic needs and you can afford it, it is something that you will take out and hold for no reason whatsoever. I'm probably the market their after. Its a shame the little pop up EVF window in the OVF used for showing focus point, exposure etc doesn't do the quick 0.5 sec review. I'm sure it could. Have you used that feature, it's good for manual focus. Finally as a PS, you have a great, honest and welcoming style. Well done.
I just bought the Xpro 3. I have Leica Q2 and SL2S plus Fuji XT4. This is an amazing camera which I love. Great for street shooting when I dint want the 47MP of the Q2. can also take this fortravel and not worry lenses ar small and using manual focus peaking is amazing on this camera. Grteat review by the way enjoyed your perspective.
I hear you about the dial and the on/off button. When I got the mark 6d ii, the dial drove me crazy but now that I got accustomed, I actually appreciate the lock it has.
Hi Hyun. I'm seriously thinking of buying this camera. I currently own the X-T3 and feel this would make a great second body as I really like the form factor of the rangefinder style. Your review was most informative and has pushed me closer to taking the plunge. Thank you. Cheers Z
@@PissTakeProduction If you're doing fast street work I'd say the AF and larger viewfinder on the X-Pro3 is worth the money, but if you're doing slower, more portrait based work then the X-Pro2 is a steal.
... pretty much what I did. It wasn't really that hard of a decision for me since I always contemplated getting an X-Pro camera after the first generation. Now it's the camera I grab for on a daily basis.
Zsolt Hary - I received mine two weeks ago and I really do like it. For street, the fastest release comes with the camera in manual focus, but that's true of most cameras, and focus peaking makes manual focus a breeze. What has worked best for me during the day has been manual focus, F8 as a starting point, 1/250 or higher, and Auto ISO set for 160-1600.
It's not always true though that you see "the image" just when you took it. Mostly what you see is going to be that image, but some components can change. For example if you stop down a lens to say f8, they camera will still use the widest available aperture for focusing and metering, so what you see in the evf is lots of bokeh, and on the final shot, that aspect will be different. Had a day when i thought i was taking some images with shallow dof, only to realise i had accidentally set the aperture and there was no bokeh on the images XD
I hope they replace that small rear screen with an ISO dial. Much better use of the space at the back. Or remove it entirely and allow the screen to flip down and articulate. That would solve a lot of the problems.
Just checked out the XPro 3 Dura Black. Wow, they show fingerprints immediately. I like the way it feels in the hand better than my XT2. However, I think I like the EVF on the XT2 more. It's just larger and I need all the visual help I can get. Plus the LCD viewing area on the Pro 3 is actually smaller. They all have pluses and minuses. Another great Fujifilm camera!
Cameras nowadays have more or less (not so distant) or similar imaging capabilities. Fujifilm has good or better imaging features. I'm a Nikon guy and owns a used Sony A6300 with only a 20mm 2.8 pancake attached to it. It's my go-getter camera before I set up my Nikons during photo shoots. I like the sturdy, sleek and minimalist design of Sony a6xxx cameras - specially the clean top plate with no protruding viewfinder on top. I'm scouting for a used a6600 with a good second-hand price. I just learned it has no built-in camera and the top plate is now firmer and cleaner.
For a camera intended for street shooters and film nerds, alot of people like to forget that shooting waist level is incredibly common in those two demographics. Its less conspicuous and is super easy to do on the xpro3. Also any articulation is better than the static screen of the xe3 and xpro2. Amusingly enough, nobody complains about static screens, and those are by far more of a sin. The xpro3 is 100% going to be a cult camera as its one a kind, not all cameras need to be designed the same. Once i have the funds im super excited to buy an xpro3
No one talks about the downgraded OVF on the X-pro3. The X-pro2 has 2 switchable magnification which is not talked about in reviews. This is very handy when you switch to longer focal lengths. The X-pro3 has 1 magnification.
I think you should research the camera before you buy it or i’ll rent one if possible. No one is forcing anyone to buy a particular product or shoot/use one unless you work for a company that furnace you with a particular model.
Happy 2020! The durability is a good selling point. Our camera has a few battle scars for sure. Haha Love the flip screen. That comparison with Mercedes is on point. We don't mind the design of the screen because it feels like it's protected. Nice comparison of the manual transmission too. Haha
I wrote you once and you responded very, very quick, so thanks for that :) Right now, I am looking at the Fuji X-Pro3 or the Fuji X-T3, now the biggest differenc from my noob point of view is the Prize - here the Fuji X-Pro3 costs about 700 Euros more - and of course the fact that the X-Pro3 does not care for videos, which I like very much, since I do not either. Still I am confused as hell.
Haha you must be lucky because unfortunately RUclips doesn't notify me every comment but yours was the first one on the list today. You're right about the price of the X-Pro3, it is a bit confusing. I believe most of the additional cost goes to the hybrid viewfinder. I hear they're very expensive to make. And the rest for the slightly better build quality. If you care about video, the X-T3 is the much better option.
@@HyunRalphJeong Thanks. I'll then get the X-T3. I don't care about video, but since the photo capability seems to be rather equal, I don't mind not having a viewfinder. It's gonna be my first fuji, with the rest of the money I can then buy a good lense. Thank you again.
Fujifilm really upped their camera game and we like it, although the screen is a bit odd but you’re it’s fun to look at and give a satisfying feeling 😆
. I just Can wrap my head around that the XT3 is a way superior camera in ever way. People justify it by saying that this a street photography camera but any camera can accomplish that including the XT3. I don’t get that tiny screen in the back. I feel about it like I feel about the EOS R Touch Bar. At least they should’ve allowed that tiny screen to at least to show your composition (even though is tiny). The price is another thing that I cant understand.
I got an XT3 it's a working horse however not very fun to use for a fuji camera. Despite the huge specs It's not what i want to carry everywhere... I much prefer x100f or xpro lineup or even the tiny nearly pocketable xt30 to get inspired
What Fuji tried to do here with the X-Pro3 is to make a camera similar to those Leica digital M cameras without the (ANY!) screen, but give you screens if you really want them at the same time. A win-win combination in my opinion. Would I buy one? Not likely, course I'll put my hard earned cash elsewhere... into lenses.
I think that's kind of crazy to think that amateurs shots through the back screen and professionals from the view finder. We are humans and we all have our preferences. I personally use the view finder but it's probably cause im blind and it helps me see better. Unless I'm taking a low or high shot then I use the back screen.
As a video maker Fuji has never really registered as an option. After this review it remains not something we'd go to as an option 😂 but appreciate all the in depth information seems more like a photographer's line.
Thank you for a very honest & informative video - really enjoyed it. I am an enthusiast who shoots family events, travel & street ( do intention of making money through photography), 90% of which is stills. Would you kindly answer these questions 1) I know the file size of the Sony in crop mode is approximately 10.4 Mb - will this produce 8.5x11 prints with enough resolution to still be pleasing to the eye 2) does the Fuji have a similar in camera feature? Thank you in advance for your answer. Morrie
I don't think we would pay $200 just to have a different color camera. But of course, that's just us, if they have it is because they have a market for it
Someone made a comment that Fuji try to tell a person how to shoot. I disagree with that. I think that Fuji put the emphasis on how the buying public can make best use of theirs product too theirs primary audience. Cameras in a way is just like buying a car. If you want a Certain make of car, it’s is there for you,if you want to pay the price. Everyone does not want or need a Mercedes been or Corvette to take the children to school when a Volkswagen will do the same thing. People complain about the cost of a camera, lens, and even batteries. I’m surprise and maybe I’m not, that there are so many people that would buy a product and not be aware of it limitations.
LOL I agree, you don't buy a mercedes or bmw because it's the smart thing to do, you really gotta want it! It definitely is the same with cameras! The flip screen for $500 is a little steep though..
Man if all your dials get changed from your bag, maybe you should get another bag... I own both the xt-3 and the x-pro3 and this has never happened to me once...
Fuji rumors say XT-4 is imminent so why bother with this one. even if you are on a budget i would wait for xt-4 to come out and look for a deal on xt-3.
There's always a new camera imminent though. :) I think with the X-Pro line it's all down to the body, not the specs. I have both the Pro-3 and the X-T3 and I just prefer the X-Pro3's body. It fits really nice in the hand and it feels like it has such a low profile. I love the viewfinder too. The X-T3 is slightly more practical with its excellent battery grip and great for video, but I'm a stills shooter and the X-Pro3 can let you see more of the scene as you shoot owing to its range-finder style viewfinder. To be honest, now we've hit a certain tech level in cameras it's becoming less about the innards (nearly all cameras are capable of taking great photos) and more about ergonomics. Therefore even if the X-T4 outmatches the X-Pro3 from a specs standpoint, the X-Pro3 might still be the one to get for some people. From a price point the X-T3 is definitely the smarter option, and for those who don't care about an OVF or the range-finder experience I say definitely get that one instead, but the X-Pro3 definitely has a place.
I guess because this camera is for a completely different audience. There's no point in comparing their specs, X-Pro3 is for people who like that concept, X-T3 is for those who don't and they're not made to compete with each other. If you're not into the optical viewfinder, there's no point in considering the X-Pro3 - that's still it's main feature and what makes it so much more expensive.
I do wonder about the finish choices on the XPro-3 in reference to re-sale. I guess time will tell if second hand buyers value the scratch resistance. I did go for the Dura Black and don't mind the finger prints.Heck, it look kind of like the camera has camp on it ;) A few wipes with a Zeiss lens cleaner wipe pretty much takes care of the grunge. I just do that when it really gets bad.
@@HyunRalphJeong I've got the Dura-Black, here's a Pro-Tip (Ha! A pun!) if you completely smudge up the camera with your thumbprints it stops looking dirty and gets a real nice even matte gun-metal style look to it that's actually pretty sweet. My advice is to give it a courtesy clean once every couple of weeks and if you ever sell it on, and to otherwise enjoy the darker, Mamiya 6 kind of shade you get with a good smudging up.
Good review, but every review on this camera misses one big feature of the flip screen...it gives you a waist-level viewfinder (like an old school Hasselblad medium format) for stealth shots. This is a purpose-driven design...a street photographer's camera!
Thank you! I didn't think waist level shooting was something that needed to be explained since most cameras can do that nowadays but yes, it is very useful in that regard.
Hyun Ralph Jeong Yeah, most cameras do allow for that, but the simple “flip down” design is faster and easier than it is to get the same view on an XT-3. Either way, it’s a quirky camera but I love it! Fuji really makes me want to go out and take photos all the time!
Buying a Mercedes is not the smartest thing to do... Only if you're trying to buy a car and you're on a budget. Xpro3 is more like a Chrysler 300... A good car that kinda looks like a RR phantom, if you squint your eyes a bit...

Great review. Since this is a "pro" camera, I wish they offered options for the LCD screen to meet the needs of different photography styles. My choice would be a screen similar to what's on the x100v.
I’m a portrait and headshot photographer and I use the XT3 and X100V. I was thinking about adding the XT4, but now I’m seriously considering an XPRO3 after falling for the X100. May I ask, do you think the XPRO3 is up to the task for paid portrait work (studio and natural light). I also sometimes photograph families and occasional live performances. Mostly paid portraits. Do you think that the XPRO3 could handle all of that?
Cameras don't usually annoy me and I don't even have any interest in Fuji being a m4/3 shooter but that camera just bugs me because Fuji designed it telling you how to shoot.
Mr Tech well being a G9 shooter I like to have all my settings easily visible on screen at all times. And correct anything overhead is out of the question. Just a annoying camera.
@Paul Jones: They lost you as a customer, but gained me as one. The fact that Fuji think differently is what has recently drawn me to their brand. I don't see their approach as arrogant or limiting. It feels like they are inviting the user to take photographs in a slower, more considered way. Plus, they make other designs with near-identical the specs for those who want a general purpose camera. They give us choice. I am interested to know how well the X-Pro3 is selling. I waited several months for a second-hand one but none became available in my area. So either they are selling very badly or people are buying them, liking them and keeping them. I had to cough up for a new one, but due to virus lockdown I have not yet put it properly to the test. I can't wait to break free...
@Paul Jones You make some valid points, many of which I agree with; especially the remarkable lack of innovation in today's cameras. But I prefer not to dwell on these issues. My hobby/passion is primarily photography (not cameras). I will go out and buy the cameras and lenses that are closest to being the ones that a) I enjoy using, b) deliver the image quality I need and c) I can afford. My perfect camera will never exist. I just learn to live with whatever I end up buying and everything else is about creating images.
I have yet to see a review of the XPro3 where the person doing the review "gets it." This one is certainly no different. I own one and love it but this camera isn't for everyone. Well, maybe it is, cause at the time of typing this you cannot buy an all-black XPro3 anywhere in North America. If you don't like the OVF, sub-display, fiddly exposure comp dial and hidden LCD then fuck off, the XPro3 is not for you. Go back to Sony. BTW who relies on raw files when shooting Fuji X series cameras? The jpegs are delicious, learn how to shoot the jpegs. Fuji didn't invest millions into film simulations so you could process raw files in LR lol. Go back to Sony if you wanna shoot raw. Dayum.
I love Fuji mirrorless products and have the XPRO2, but I dont like the concept of the XPRO3 screen. I think the movable screen position is a hazard and can be damaged. The film screen is a gimmick. If the main screen would fold flat and show images, that might work. Strangely, nearly every reviewer has no issues with this model. In some ways Im glad it has the "flaw." Now I wont make an impulsive decision to upgrade my XPRO2.
In the video, I said the X-T3 is $500 less than the X-Pro3 because the X-T3's price was $1299 on the day I made this video. It seems like it's back up to $1499.
With the new fuji announcement, people are already getting rid of their xt3 and you can easily find them in 9/10 condition for under $1k...

Well done.
Thanks for posting an honest review. Many of the others seem like sponsored reviews.
I actually kind of like the flip screen. They seem similar is comparison. But for $500 less... I'll take the X-T3
Toronto Eats yeah the X-T3 is a great value
i actually like the button in the front, but yes i can see the problem not looking at the front
All I shoot is analog Rangefinders, but I want a digital Camera. I feel like this one would be perfect for me...
The Mamuchos Yeah, dials and buttons are always something you have to try yourself haha
in 15 years of photography, I have never had a dial accidentally changed, even on the XPRO 3
Hi Hyun. I'm seriously thinking of buying this camera. I currently own the X-T3 and feel this would make a great second body as I really like the form factor of the rangefinder style. Your review was most informative and has pushed me closer to taking the plunge. Thank you. Cheers Z
XPro2 was a deal with sales.
@@PissTakeProduction If you're doing fast street work I'd say the AF and larger viewfinder on the X-Pro3 is worth the money, but if you're doing slower, more portrait based work then the X-Pro2 is a steal.
@@PeterEvansPeteTakesPictures i shoot with manual focus glass. But if you wear glasses I wouldn't recommend the XPro2
... pretty much what I did.
One of the better, logical, Xpro reviews...
The X-pro3 has 1 magnification.
completely off topic but what did you think about the the 1DxM3
I think you should research the camera before you buy it or i’ll rent one if possible. No one is forcing anyone to buy a particular product or shoot/use one unless you work for a company that furnace you with a particular model.
Happy 2020! The durability is a good selling point. Our camera has a few battle scars for sure. Haha Love the flip screen. That comparison with Mercedes is on point. We don't mind the design of the screen because it feels like it's protected. Nice comparison of the manual transmission too. Haha
I wrote you once and you responded very, very quick, so thanks for that :)
Right now, I am looking at the Fuji X-Pro3 or the Fuji X-T3, now the biggest differenc from my noob point of view is the Prize - here the Fuji X-Pro3 costs about 700 Euros more - and of course the fact that the X-Pro3 does not care for videos, which I like very much, since I do not either.
@@HyunRalphJeong
Thanks.
I'll then get the X-T3. I don't care about video, but since the photo capability seems to be rather equal, I don't mind not having a viewfinder. It's gonna be my first fuji, with the rest of the money I can then buy a good lense.
Thank you again.
Hi! How is it with glasses?
Peter Ferry agree an the X100f. I’ve been tempted to get it even it’s an old one.
Morrie
Yes and no.
I don't think we would pay $200 just to have a different color camera.
But of course, that's just us, if they have it is because they have a market for it
ok i would love 4k60 - that would be insane.
Hey Hyun, nobody talks about HDR Mode, how does it preform in your opinion?
How do you explain the fact that, on the comparison of pictures at 7:29 and 7:33, the pictures of Classic Neg are sharper than the RAW ones...
The sharpness doesn't look any different to me but it can look that way because the processing adds more contrast.
@@HyunRalphJeong Thanks for your response ! Have a nice day !
Great to see you Hyun, best in 2020 to you and your family !
TheCanadianBubba and you as well! All the best to you and your family
New to the chanel, just wanted to say that this was unquestionably the best review I’ve seen. Great Job 🤝
Ran Bar-Levi I hear lots of exciting things about the X-T4. Wonder when it’s coming out
There's always a new camera imminent though. :)
I think with the X-Pro line it's all down to the body, not the specs.
10:08 - NO. Only some people do that. Especially now with EVFs.
which lens should i use?
Didn't know that stuff about the coating! Good info :)
Need an update to let us choose stop the evf from automatically switching to the ovf
I just do that when it really gets bad.
camo not camp, sorry about the auto correct!
Bill haha yeah, I don’t mind weathered look on my cameras especially with Fujis.
Honest and straightforward review. Excellent presentation. Will subscribe.
Glad to see your back sir
As informative and unbiased as usual
Can you recommend me a photography book for beginner sir?
Aditya Rosyid Thank you! Try “Read this if you want to take great photographs” by Henry Carrol
Thanks man. Perfect review and I agree with you about the flip screen.
Buying a Mercedes is not the smartest thing to do... Only if you're trying to buy a car and you're on a budget. Xpro3 is more like a Chrysler 300... A good car that kinda looks like a RR phantom, if you squint your eyes a bit...

Love my X-PRO 3. Well done with video.
I don't know why it didn't use Canons screen design. Its to much Sony like.
You are a sensible reviewer, bravo!
No magnifier on ovf. Costs too much
Cameras don't usually annoy me and I don't even have any interest in Fuji being a m4/3 shooter but that camera just bugs me because Fuji designed it telling you how to shoot.
WHO IS SERAFIN it does feel a bit pretentious
I just learn to live with whatever I end up buying and everything else is about creating images.
good explanation, like tom sawyer who liked to paint the fence 😜
Hi my friend 👍 very cool video 👍 I don't much about cameras but I do learn a lot from you 😊
I have yet to see a review of the XPro3 where the person doing the review "gets it." This one is certainly no different.

Seems too fussy in my opinion. I’ll pass.
that screen.... just throw this camera in the bin
