Funny enough for the reason 1 not to buy, I like how it’s not like other Fuji cameras. As someone who uses Sony and previously used Canon, the all the manual controls/dials etc of the other Fuji bodies always put me off using them. The fact that the X-S20 is like cameras from other brands with the Fuji colors and lens selection makes it more appealing to me.

Same here. I have a dedicated wildlife kit from a different brand but wanted a light, walkaround combo and having had the X100F before, I knew I wanted a fuji to just shoot jpg of my kid and family outings. But having brain spasms every time I want to change a setting cause the dials are all different, was off putting 😅 This X-S20 is the perfect gateway drug into Fuji's film simulations without any usability set backs, if you juggle multiple systems that is. I do think however the retro looking ones look much better, but in my case, practicality wins.

I agree, coming from Nikon, this is what is appealing vs the XT series or the x100v.. I like that I get a familiar and modern body with Fuji's film simulations.. best of both worlds!

I chose the X-S20 over the Canon R50 and R7. Right away, it was obvious that the Fuji has more features than a perpetual beginner like me needs. But having said that, the X-S20 is an amazing camera. The images from this thing are incredible. I have no regrets. In fact the Fuji is now forcing me to step-up my photography skills. It might be the motivator I needed to improve what I can do with a camera. Fuji snobs will (and should) opt for the XT-5. But for people coming from Canon, the X-S20 is a great choice.

got mine today as my 2nd camera beside my canon r5. the special thing about fuji for me is the film simulations and the creativity that it automatically awakes in me. its just different than having my main/job camera.

I wish they would make this camera slightly more premium. Weather sealing would be a great place to start.

Honestly the real reason to buy the X-S20 is that there is nothing that can compete with it for the price(new), and the two reasons you wouldn't want to buy it are the single card slot and the lack of weather resistance.

I think your point about the price point being very close to the X-T5 for example is one of the most compelling reasons not to buy the X-S20. As an X-T3 owner, it initially looked like it might be a nice choice to upgrade. But, when I saw the single card slot, the fully articulating screen and the price comparison to the T5 I kind of changed my mind. My choice is to just keep shooting the X-T3 for a while and see how the used market goes down the road for the T5. We'll see! Thanks for the thoughts, have a great week!

Does the Fuji xs-20 overheat when simply taking photos on a hot day? Or is the overheating issue only for when you shoot video?

I've had my S20 for a couple of weeks now and I think this is a fair review. One of the main reasons I chose the S20 over its big brothers and sisters is size. Have three X-E cameras and an H1. I take my X-E cameras when traveling, usually the X-E3 and sometimes I'll also bring either the E1 and E2. I don't travel with the H1 because of the size. For me, the S20 is a great marriage of the small travel size of the X-E line with the features and video capability of the H line.
The price is a consideration, especially if you plan to shoot video. My H1 never overheated even when shooting continuously for its maximum recording time of 30 minutes. However, the S20 will overheat in warm to hot conditions even when shooting short clips. Be sure to factor in the fan when deciding to price the S20. You're now creeping into the X-T5 price point. If size is not a consideration, you might really want to look at the T5.
As you summarized, it is still a great camera and I'm really happy I bought it.

My X-S20 displayed the overheating sign on a very warm afternoon in the British Midlands. I was photographing insects in burst mode with combined JPG and Raw files, so I wasn't even doing a video.
It is the best camera that I have ever used, I love it.

I much prefer the “dials” versions of Fuji cams (10-year user heavily invested in the system), but I still like the size and usability of this camera. Like the small size and the good balance of photo/video features. Would prefer a dials version but this is what is available with these specs. AF and video features are much better than my X-T3 and X-T4.

So on the fence with this one - I really want it especially for the open gate, film simulations, battery life and portability, heck even the popup flash. But realistically it's not cheap and with the a74 and fx30 I know I don't NEED it. But at the same time it's so tempting...

How does this compare to the X-T30ii? Am really torn between both - like the compact size of the T30ii but like the video stuff available more on the XS20 and between videos and photo, prefer videos a bit more.
The T30ii new body costs around $850 or so and the XS20 new body costs around $1300 or so.
And this is gonna be personal / hobby usage not any kind professional usage.

I do like the X-T30's design but if you shoot more videos than photos, I'd definitely recommend the X-S20. Apart from the video specs, the bigger battery, fully articulating screen, etc., are just better designed for video.

Film? Film is why I didn't get into photography until I was nearly 60. Too darn expensive. I love digital! Aside from the initial investment, digital is nearly free. I can go snap-happy if I want, and get shots I never would have tried for. If you are a skilled photographer with money to spare, I could see film being worth investing in.
