I have found the SMALLEST Kingdom in all of Crusader Kings 3... and It's absolutely amazing! With only two counties and one Duchy, this ISLAND KINGDOM is an incredible start if you want to play tall, or just not rule as much land and blob like you usually do! I'm of course talking about the beautiful... KINGDOM OF KRETE!
So that's what we're going to explore today! As Koifish will play as the SMALLEST KINGDOM in all of Crusader Kings 3... as well as playing as the SMALLEST KING, the mighty dwarf assassin and mastermind! But all is not well, as the smallest start is surrounded by the LARGEST of empires! Will we be able to defeat them using cunning and strategy? Or will the giants win? Watch and find out!
I will be using all the tips and tricks and strategies that I went over in my CK3 Lifestyle guide series, mainly focusing on Intrigue! I'm also playing with all the current CK3 DLC, Including Northern Lords, Royal Court, Fate of Iberia and Tours and Tournaments and Legacy of Persia!
The question still stands... How did I go about it when I found the SMALLEST KINGDOM in Crusader Kings 3?

Fun fact! Crete was actually home to dwarf animals during the Pleistocene, like dwarf mammoths, dwarf elephants, and dwarf hippos. On the flip side, there were also giant owls. Ice age Crete was weird.
Now I can only imagine giant owls hunting dwarf mammoths.

Islands have always been pretty quirky, in the age of the dinosaurs on islands there we’re tiny dinosaurs being dominated by huge pterodactyls

couldve been cool if you did the unify the mediterranean decision krete and cyprus became de jure if you own them

Nanos Mikros in greek basically means "Dwarf Little", A fitting name for one such goliath.
I love the little kingdoms. Krete, Cyprus, Venice, and Frisia are some of my favorite little kingdoms. Whenever I can I like to capture them and give them away to my kids.
The Abbasids likely took so long to split because the new struggle in Persia disallows Dissolution Wars on the Abbasid Empire. Claimant factions are easier though, so it is simultaneously very difficult to destroy and very easy to destabilize. I’d guess the reason it eventually split is that it was no longer controlled by the Abbasids.
Yeah LoP did not improve the gameplay in my opinion. It made it worse. The AI cant handle the systems for shit… and as a player its only fun when you play in a specific region and faith and culture. It feels a bit useless. I was hoping it would also effect islam in the region more. Maybe some late game changes? Il khanate? Seljuks? Nothing… they are the ‘legacy’ empires of persia… not the zoroastrians, which the dlc almost completly focusses on for some weird reason
@@HansWurst1569 The "weird reason" is that zoroastrism was the original religion of the region and its older realms pre-islamism, and the whole dlc is all about the region's unique identidy and what to do about the arabian calif influence. But yeah, they may have gone too ham in that direction

A full playthrough in this style, just making a cursed world, would be the start of an awesome mega-campaign (CK>EU>VIC>HOI) in the style of iSorrowProductions. Please do this, Koifish.
I've done a viking pirate kingdom from Crete before and it was so nice having all that Greek territory to raid. So much free money.
Crazy how the SMALLEST king had the BIGGEST historical impact.
I made a cornish-greek culture as the king of Crete. I joined the Byzantines, soon I become an emperor, my brothers inherited the other kingdoms. After three holy wars, and a successful crusade for Jerusalem, the Abbasid empire collapsed. After some conquering, only Rome left from the required areas. And that is how I restored the Roman Empire.
Imagine a modern historian from this timeline discovering that the Franco-Byzantine Empire was _not_ formed by a series of prosperous and astute marriages, but rather by a mischevious little baby-faced man running around killing people

Well it is small kingdom but technically you can make even smaller. You can make a Kingdom of Mann and islands with just a duchy of Mann and it is just one province island. But in the end great video, much love.

Did a campaign recently where I played as a viking count from northern Sweden, I migrated down to Crete and created a trade empire in the med.

One of my first CK3 campaigns was there. I made a "minoan" custom culture an religion, and I absorbed the other islands in the aegean and cyprus. Good times

You should have conquered cyprus instead of venetia, not only they are closer to krete and are their own kingdom but you also need to win against the abassids and bizzantines to get it
Tall Krete was probably my most relaxing run ever, with 10 court grandeur everyone loves you because you're so far above expected grandeur

You can take crete cyprus and venice then take a bunch of random duchies to get to the empire size requirement and as long as you dont hold any other kingdom titles you can create a very small empire title. Only held kindoms are included in the empire's de jure land. Grant the excess lands and give them independence. Bada bing bada boom tiny little Mediterranean empire.

With a custom character I managed to form the Roman Empire with a Crete start I called it the Reverse Roman Empire(basically start small and build up to Rome instead of starting as Byzantium.)
I like the fact that the game chose "Pavlina" as the name for your first child since "parvus" means small in Latin. It's not quite the same but it still got a giggle out of me.
