Hey. I’m just using insta360 selfie stick with this mount which I screwed into another end of stick and attached carabiner. images.app.goo.gl/8cqKetL5Uj6dZzcn7
Is the footage shown raw or color corrected and graded? I’m surprised by the performance in colors at depth, and performance in the cavern and cave sections with low light
Thanks for sharing and great footage. Is it me or do you also notice that only the centre of the the footage is the sharpest and contrasty where towards the edges are soft? I am in two minds and waiting to see a solid review similar to yours of the DJI Action 4.
Thank you! Yap, you're right, noticed it as well. When there's a lot of light than it's all good. The first underwater shots in this video are filmed close to the sunset and all footage is kinda out of focus. First I thought case was fogged up, but when checking all was good.
Thinking of DJI Action 4, but it's from another kind of camera. 360 cameras give you a different feeling of depth, and visibility looks better than it actually is with them:)
The soft edges are characteristic of 360 video when viewed in a rectilinear frame. It's the result of "stretching" a sphere to fill a rectangle. That 5.6K is the resolution of the ENTIRE sphere, so you need to decide where you want to concentrate those pixels. The softness can be somewhat reduced by "zooming in", resulting in a more narrow shot. The trade-off is that you begin to lose sharpness in the center as you "spread" the pixels out more evenly over the frame.
Thank you! Above the water, it’s not that much a problem to remove the stick as a case, because it’s reflecting a lot and the software struggles a lot.
Sorry for another comment at the end… Any tips on the selfie stick and clever ways to mount it? I’m thinking helmet mount for caves, or maybe trying to rig it to my tank so I’ll have the stick over my shoulder or over my head, or behind me and above (when I’m in trim). Thinking of clever shot angles, idk how to mount it though.
I actually appreciate any comments so I can share what I know. Been thinking your way for a while but worried that I will lose camera without noticing it 🙂 But with the help of some safety strap it can be very helpful interesting shots. I don’t like helmet mounts because of head movements, the footage is jerky. Tank mount is a great idea because can get third person like shots, but if you do narrow caves than it’s not an option. As long camera is placed in place where it can film over the shoulder level is a good angle and interesting footage. I use stick because than I’m not tight on one angle, so I can film from the side, front and above, but if my hands would be busy and I would not be able to operate camera, I would mount camera on my back (sidemount configuration, doubles or single tank). The only downside is you never know what it’s filming.
In the videos, you can see that there is a carabiner attached to the stick. Whenever I don't film or am busy with something else, I attach it to my harness. The case is buoyant and tends to float up, but I keep it under my body.
Gotta get you folks some white Eddy's, they are awesome(as flippers as you know) but also for doing white balance off. Super quick to do and easier than pulling out a slate, just point at your feet and flippers!
Hello Martin , thanks for sharing. Very cool perspective with these shots, nice work man🤙. I just got my Insta360 and I’m glad I found your channel. Can you please tell me what settings you have done for underwater? Also can you tell me if you have done any editing to the footage? I appreciate you and your efforts with this content, keep on keepin’ on.
Hey Jimmy! Thank you! That's the beauty of Insta360 and it's built in firmware, that I did not color corrected at all. Only few clips where I was filming underwater against the sun. There I added a bit contract and shadows. Sometimes it makes all a bit too red, but it's easy to reduce it in software.
Hey Martin, great work in the footages! Would like to seek your opinion if im looking for my first camera primarily for diving, would you recommend gopro/dji action 4 or insta x3?😊
Hey Chen. Thanks for asking. X3 requires a lot of work because filming is just a part of the fun🙂 Afterwards you will spend a lot of time choosing the right angles. But it’s great footage and you will never miss a moment even if you looking in different directions, it’s recording everything. And for social media, I can not imagine a better camera. But if I would look for simplicity which does not require extra work after filming, then it’s a DJI action 4.
Thanks for the swift and detailed response! I know DJI has a better camera relatively, but is the diff significant when recording underwater moments? Bet you'd understand how frustrating it is when the video quality could not represent what we see irl
Yeah, it's very frustrating actually🙂 Honestly I would take 2 cameras for a dive. But if I have to choose one than it's X3. I don't mind spending time on editing since footage looks very good and I colour grade only a bit comparing with GoPro's footage.
Thank you! I am not a big expert of best settings, can just recommend what I personally use. It was recommended to film 5.7k by Insta360. So far been filming like that. But I really wanna try out slow motion on X3. Tried it on X2 and I loved it ruclips.net/user/clipUgkx1RrJ1fkCdh78OZPQmMaExjo_ORgKwa9b?si=Ox4hsLWsuM6rlShL
I would like to know if you have found the sharpness of the images on the new X3 case to be poor in comparison to the first X3 case. This has been my experience so far with the same settings. On my simple video you can read the wording but using the new case all of the sharpness had gone ruclips.net/video/CRPP-jcxPcQ/видео.htmlsi=qx_eZxIuWpaUH5mw
Hi! I had no chance to film with x3 camera in the old case since I got a new case with it. But I was filming a lot with x2 in the diving case which was the same as the first case for x3. For me, both are kind of the same. The edges of the footage are quite soft, but I understand that it’s an action camera, so no complaints. Otherwise new case gives me less frustration than the previous🙂
Many thanks for your kind comments. I will share the results of the comparison with you X3 new and old case when I get in to the water. I had three X2 cases that leaked and because you could see the water creeping in on the video at the base of the case Insta accepted each time it was a case issue design. My X3 case old one has never been an issue so far. Obviously the invisible stick is a benefit but not if the sharpness of the image is lost. The sharpness loss is in the main area not at the edges. Have a great day working and diving @@MartinSlisans
Thanks for another great video Martin. Do you just shoot in full auto 5.7k? With regards to the stitch line, have you tried shooting horizontal with the stitch facing the surface and the lenses to the sides? I have the original case and not sure if I should spend the money to upgrade to the invisible case. Thoughts?
Hi. Yes I shoot 5.7 auto. Somehow it never came to my mind to film in that position you mentioned, will give a try. The problem with the previous diving case was its corners, software was not able to remove them. With the invisible that problem is solved.
Thanks for the reply@@MartinSlisans I will buy the upgrade as I will be doing a liveaboard trip soon. I'm coming to Bali in August so I might come look you up for a dive or two!
Thank you for talking about the reflections and sharing your results from filming in vertical orientation - very useful :)
Love this video! You are so professional!!!😆
🙏🙏🙏
awesome shots! love it
Appreciate!
AWESOME SHARING OF YOUR EXPERIENCES !! I'm eager to test mine on my scuba dives very soon!!
It’s an interesting camera, you’ll enjoy very much!
What about 45 degrees or 30 degrees away from you so it’s tilted? Makes stitch below and behind plus up and forward?
As long I bend it, stick is visible. Looks weird because housing is invisible.
Hey Martin, thanks for sharing! I am interested in your carabiner clamp setup for the selfie stick. Would you mind sharing it?

In torch light it performs very well. It’s just important to put it into right position to prevent shadow in the middle of frame.

@@rag3geCKo Thanks for sharing, good point to think about!
Very good video.. Can you make the selfie stick completely disapear with the new case above water ?

Very Nice video.
Do you film in 5.7k, 30 fps, normal color?
Thank you.
I film 5.7k so I can zoom in if needed, and it’s the standard color.
Wow amazing footage so glad i came across your channel.
I just got the 360x3 dive case
Did you film in 4k 60 or 5.7k 30
Love your work btw
