Chief, every one of your points were spot on! Not only area you a "new" rider, BUT, you speak from the perspective of "a new rider just starting a bit later than everyone else"! You've got maturity on your side/under your belt to be speak with experience! I'm 57 years old and my head was nodding in agreement with every point you declared. Great job on the boldness factor to help the "newbie's" who are SO green, they could sprout any minute now if they got stuck in the dirt of someone's garden. 🏍️👍😵🙄 Doug
“Thumbs down, hit it twice!” That WAS funny. I really enjoy your videos and am really considering that Vulcan S! Thanks for your effort in quality vlogs.
I'm new to your channel. First impression: your voice is great for talking. A lot of RUclipsrs have a tendency to yell, try to sound more exciting than they actually are, or try to sound cool. The fact that you're just talking is refreshing; like you left the bullshit at home, ya know? Thanks for being real and sharing your experience. So far, your videos have been helpful and easy to watch.
Have come across your videos recently. I’m new to riding since March this year and am 57 years old. I love your comments about new riders. Totally agree and understand the obsession with it. Although I play a lot more guitar since retiring here in Ireland. I ride a Shadow 750. Very pleased to have got the ABS version. Have subscribed. Keep safe.
Your common sense approach is absolutely refreshing. New subscriber and as someone who is thinking about taking the safety course and getting a bike I'm so happy I came across your channel. Thank you for the down to earth advice. I'll be binge watching your videos this fine Sunday.
I test rode a Vulcan S last Saturday. It is a great bike. Handel's well and feels nice and light. And I love the fact I could be flat footed when I stop. The test ride was a little sketchy for me because I'm not use to the forward controls. I'm 5'2" so I would need the reduced reach handlebars and the reduced reach peg position. The guy that I talked to said he wouldn't suggest getting the shorter seat. He said, for what ever reason it isn't as comfortable as the other seats. Just something to think about. Good luck and ride safe. I'm sure your wife will love this bike..
I totally agree with you thank you. As someone looking for further training and better info on gear and safety videos like this about distractions really counts as there is so much to take in learning to control a motorcycle from the learning point of view and what you've said in your videos gives clarity to things we all need to sit down listen and understand as we continue learning even after 30 years of driving cars we still learn things daily with ever changing highways city's and drivers in general.
Gas works your videos are awesome keep up the great work. It would be great to see a bike tour video around mountains and stuff road trips! The way you describe stuff makes sense to me. Great channel
I apologize for some of the weird ‘off’ sounding audio transitions in this video. RUclips always screws up the audio tracks in my videos no matter how well I edit them...I’ll keep trying to find a fix.
Very good video for people starting to ride! One thing that I would say all the videos I've been watching about this bike. A lot of people call it a starter bike, which is almost laughable bikes that turn the quarter mile in the mid-13s are not starter bikes. I am 68 years old in the way I drive today, is not the way I drove in my twenties or teens. Nobody should be getting on a bike this fast with no experience, go out and buy a used 250 ride it for a year and then sell it. Because you are going to drop it! Too many kids have been killed in single vehicle accidents meaning just the motorcycle because they didn't know what they were doing. Very good video you possibly saved some people's lives, which is awesome.
I agree about the gloves making a difference. I had a pair of stiff leather dirt bike gloves with knuckle busters and they were garbage while I took the Harley Rider course. I had little clutch/throttle control during practice. The Instructor told me to get a pair of mechanic gloves for 8 bucks to use during the course. Crushed the final eval, got my endorsement and bought a better pair of gloves. No problems since. Thanks for the video!
I just got my first bike, same as yours. Appreciate the tips. Things are still a bit overwhelming, and I havent even been out on the roads yet, just doing my parking lot drills ( I have one behind my house). I'm hoping tomorrow will be the day I feel comfortable enough to head out there. I really like my bike, but it is really twitchy in 1st gear, its taking me a while to get the hang of it. Anyway, be safe out there.
“Group rides... screw all that!” Lol. I live in a small city, in a big neighborhood with no through streets. I like to ride after dark when everyone is watching TV and long before the drunks are headed home. Also, there are miles and miles of farming, logging, and oil field roads with almost no traffic. Perfect for my dual sport. Good video.
Good points for beginning riders. I also suggest that you assume that no one can see you, yet are still trying to kill you. I find groups of 20-40 people fun, but I often ride with people I know can control their bike. I get more nervous on the rides with 200-1000 bikes. It’s like NASCAR at a restricted plate race... all it takes is one person to wipe out a couple dozen, except there’s bound to be someone stupid on a ride that big.
So 100 subs a month ago.. now at 2K subs.. well deserved sir. Don’t stop doing these vids. I learn a lot from you and like to listen to your stories and experiences .
Agreed with everything said about group ride. However, as an older guy but new rider in England, I go out as a learner with my son who has just passed his full test and another advanced rider using intercom between all three of us. I’m in the middle following the advanced rider, with my son at the back. No chit chat, but real time advice / guidance whilst riding is great. It also reduces my anxiety and increases my confidence. Great videos, by the way 👍
You're right that having on phone on the handlebar is a distraction for noobies. I recently put a phone mount and used Google map. I realized i was looking at it too often while riding on highway. I told myself i need to focus on the road.
Idk if you still have your Vulcan but if you do Kawasaki makes a a bag that attaches to your rear fender and contours to the back of the bike blending in. I love how it looks like part of the bike and I don’t have to wear a backpack anymore. Also it’s suuuuper easy to take off of you needed to take the bag with you.
Regarding distractions, what are the requirements for a motorocycle license in different countries? I'm getting mine in Sweden now and I feel like we get a pretty extensive education including a 4h safe driving session learning how to do emergency stops in traffic and ensuring proper cornering technique etc. But the first and main lesson seems to be to keep my focus on the road ahead as well as my surroundings and constantly scan for possible risks. Anything from children running behind parked cars to other veichles coming from behind a hedge.
Awesome Brother. I am like you got back into riding at 45. I love it. Makes me want to move to Florida so I can ride year around. You do make some great videos. What go pro do u use? The quality is very good
Ngl when I was home where I knew where everything was I relied on Bluetooth in my helmet. But now moving to FL i need it to get around other wise those last minute directions will take my life more than looking down and seeing ahead
Good video bud. 👍 That looks a nice suburban district you rode around in this video. Where is that please? I also like the look of your jacket. What make and model is that please, and would you recommend it?
Good vid bud just a few comments Re shoe laces...firemans knot works good woth leather laces . Leather gloves ...a pair of leather gloves can be bought at a hard-ware store or lumber-yard for $20.oo . Cheers
Excellent and intelligent cautions given. Always remember, on a weekend evening, those damned drunks are like Mosquitoes.....and Semi-tractor drivers won't get hurt, if they run over you.
I think Shoei helmets are intermediate oval. I'm a round oval and im waiting for my tax return to get an Arai Quantum X; right now I have an entry level HJC helmet (not too sure the model) and have an HJC CL 17 that has the dot and snell rating coming in the mail. Im pretty stoked! Cycle gear can help out with finding a helmet.
Loads of good common sense one can't get enough of along on a nice easy ride on a great bike. Nice throaty sound at the end. Love that Ninja. What were the boots you wear? TRX or something I'll check that one out. Ride safe, nice video.
I sold my Sportster in 98. Recently got divorced and now riding new Triumph. The biggest possible distraction that exists now that wasn't around before is CELL PHONES. And some Moto Safe Driving Vlogs are pushing handlebar mounts for them constantly. I have had my new bike since Feb. Not once have I needed to have my cell phone on a mount on my handlebars so I can read it while driving and eat some immovable object or vehicle.
I have several m/cycle helmets, I always make sure they are a good snug fit. Not too tight and definitely not loose. I have a Harley-Davidson so yes I tend to wear an openface helmet most often. I must say wearing a full face helmet would be a far better idea. So much so I am thinking of only using my full face helmets.
In most States it's illegal to share a lane even with a motorcycle. That's why lane splitting is illegal. You can share at a stop, but not while moving.
The distraction of gear is so true for me. Not the gloves though, its the restrictive feel of riding jackets. I hate hate hate them. The discomfort is so distracting and takes from the joy of riding for me .... So much so I Don't ride as much as I'd like to because of it.
Just never ride for anything else than hobby, fun or sport. Riding is a 100% activity if you have anything else in mind you are in danger. At least that's what I learned of my two crashes. I was riding slow and...thinking of something else.
Nothing at all wrong with group rides. Most groups I have ever road with were and are extremely safe! Nobody does it to look cool. We ride with friends . Not to mention a mechanical issue is easier to deal with if you are in a group.
14:42 - are stop signs optional where you are?
I was wondering when someone would point that out! Lol. It was early in the morning and zero traffic. No excuse though.
And because you pointed that out, you’ve won a pinned comment..😆
@@GasWorksISO Thanks for being a good sport. Loved the video.
Stop signs are PNA for riders, but ...
@Michael Moretti heh. There are probably 100 stop signs within a mile of me. US doesn't grok roundabouts.

Bell was one of the only helmet brand that fit me as well. The other one that fit if you have the bucks is Shoei.
True, Shoei makes some good stuff, but nobody local to me carries them in stock, so unfortunately I never got the chance to try one on.
You're right that having on phone on the handlebar is a distraction for noobies. I recently put a phone mount and used Google map. I realized i was looking at it too often while riding on highway. I told myself i need to focus on the road.

@@GasWorksISO Ah! That's why you mentioned the snow capped volcano. And congrats on breaking 1K subs and keeping it real for us 'mature' riders.

How's the heat you're feeling on your legs while you're driving in this video?
i use gps , getting lost and trying to find your way using the streets signals
could take a lot more of your attention from the road hazards.
I agree with the large group riding but a small group riding staggered is safer than riding alone
That Vulcan sounds like a Lexus...no sound what so ever. Or is it the mic and sound equipment???
Yes, I'd like to know the answer to this too!
I told my wife I was going to buy a motorcycle. She said, "over my dead body".
You should see new Harley!
Badumbum, chsssssss!
I bought a Narley instead aka Not a Harley. Harley dudes Don't like my decal that says Narley Electraglide.
Thank you
Man, where do you live?! That's bike heaven, barely ant traffic at all!
I was saying the same thing too unlike here in Miami with these none drivers and heavy traffic
Good Tips!
Like today, a plane was doing continuous loop -D-loops ..Or too loose of gloves sliding around and causing callouses ..
I don’t like metal whatsoever, but that intro slaps🔥🔥
Awesome advice! Thank you! I love your videos.
Hi, great tips. Thank you. Also, where in California is this?
Central Washington state
How is your GPS mounted?
I’ll give it a quick mention in a future video

Where I am you aren't allowed to have anything except factory part mounted on your bars. so that first one is easy for me.
The bike is so quiet compared to others, is it your recording technique or the engine?
A bit of both.
@gasworks nice videos! What mount are you using for your go pro on your helmet? im looking for a good one. I would appreciate the response
It’s a curved bracket that came in the cheap Amazon GoPro accessories kit. I have it mounted to the helmet with an epoxy called Sugru.
@@GasWorksISO awesome. Thanks!
