This was such a fun way to finish up the year 🤍 it feels a bit surreal!! I loved your lesson on art study notes. I've always loved taking notes but I never thought of taking notes on my art studies. I'm excited to try this.
Your portraits are so beautiful, as always. It was a pleasure to work with you on this project 🤍🤍

I loved all your lessons. I need to keep a lot of these in mind and I'll definitely be coming back to this video as a reminder. The flp through at 24.49 is so satisfying 😍

Thank you for doing this with me! ❤️ I think without this exciting idea and the collab aspect, I wouldn't have gotten any video done at all over these busy days 😂 btw, my cat seems to like your voice, he got really interested when I watched yours. 🤍
(And yes, study notes for art are so helpful. I have a bad memory when it comes to names, too, so I also write down artist names I saw in museums or books so I can find them again...)

The soundtracks are also great for painting! At this point I have the Emerald Grove theme on a loop 😆 Also started playing Dragon Age Veilguard over this weekend and spent 2 hours in the character creator....

Awesome video and I enjoyed your tips a lot! I will be checking out Annabelle's video soon (did not know her channel yet).
I also find myself inspired greatly by the media I consume (video games and tv shows/movies). I find it more enjoyable to draw or paint people that I have some kind of emotional connection to, although it also makes me obsess over getting the likeness right. Loved your sketches here and the characters are all very recognizable. I personally like your vibrant color palettes a lot, and admired how you handled Minthara's color palette here. Had to smile a bit about your tendency to draw the noses too long - that is one of mine as well. I also tend to make the eyes too large. Being aware of such quirks can be super useful, as you mentioned.
How did you mix the skin tones in Gouache for the three portraits on the left page? (If you still remember.)
I have the same sketchbook by Hahnemühle, just in the square format. So far I have been neutral about it. I don't like how much my watercolors fade on the paper, and they also don't seem to lift well. But I did sketch on it with a watersoluable pencil and loved how it turned out. Might need to give it a try again soon.
I've been wanting to sign up for art classes just so that I can carve out a regular time for art, but the local ones never meshed too well with my work schedule, unfortunately. Now I'm looking ahead to next year. We are expecting a baby, so I will probably need to carve out those little pockets of time in-between that you mentioned, and work with those rather than larger painting sessions. I got some colored pencils for Christmas that I hope will come in handy (Derwent Drawing Set of 24 - you actually might like the color palette as well).
    Happy New Year, Evy! 🎆
Thanks for the tons of enjoyable videos this year!

Thank you so much! And yes, I think our lessons balance each other well, so I hope you enjoy both videos together :)
Good point about obsessing with the likeness! Sometimes, going for an unknown quantity can be freeing in that sense, but I really just love sketching movie scenes so much BECAUSE I have that ambition and love driving me to get it "right" haha.
Glad I'm not alone when it comes to noses. I might have to sit down and just practice drawing noses one morning. :'D And then, I also like long, hooked, intense looking noses aesthetically, so it's an interesting balance to get right.
My gouache palette is very limited - just a modified Zorn palette, with Flame Red and Yellow Ochre, as well as Ivory Black and Titanium White doing most of the heavy lifting. I then mixed in cyan blue and some ultramarine blue for cooler shadows and color variety.
I actually like the paper of the Hahnemuehle a LOT for my mixed media approach. There are better watercolor options out there - Arches paper is hard to beat - but I find that this one goes well for this mix of gouache (less water), colored pencil (which I find really unpleasant in my Arches sketchbooks), and then watercolor, though I haven't tried a true wet-on-wet approach yet. So I think I accidentally stumbled across the perfect paper for my mix of techniques and materials. :D
Congrats on the pregnancy! That really is such a big change, and I wish you all the best and good health. That for sure makes scheduling even more difficult, so I hope those little pockets of time still happen for you.

I think that's a new RUclips feature to do auto dubbing! I hope the quality was okay, I hadn't checked those out yet 😌

I noticed that you create a lot of portraits... I have the same "problem", I love them, but I have to focus on drawing the architecture and background (for my comic book). Do you have any advice on how to get started?

    • @evydraws-art
      @evydraws-art  Час назад +1

I just love portraits so much, so I end up sketching and painting them a lot in my free time. I do often have to include architecture and such for work - just not sharing much of that on RUclips. 😊 I still struggle with backgrounds! But I've found that when I make the background something to enhance the characters, giving them a beautiful space or telling their story through it, I'm much more motivated to paint them. So maybe seeing backgrounds as a way to frame your portraits might be helpful? ❤️

@@evydraws-art Perhaps that's why it's so difficult because I often don't paint full illustrations, I just settle for a sketch; I have to think about it; thanks for the answer, it's good to talk to a kindred spirit sometimes ;)
