    I am so impressed with this author and his attempts to stay true to the cannon while creating new adventures.

    I thoroughly enjoyed this audiobook story, well read and quite consistent with the spirit of the original. Nit picker that I am however I would like to point out a few anachronisms. 1). Mrs. Angel is said to earn 20p per page which inflation adjusts to at least 12 pounds a page, or perhaps much more than that depending on how you account for inflation. In the ACD original version she earns 2p a page. 2). In the final raid the police are equipped with electric torches which will not be available until 1899. ( covered lanterns would be more appropriate). 3). The term SNIPER did not come into common usage until the World War, Sharpshooter or marksman would be current for 1888. 4). While grenades have been around since at least the sixteenth century they had generally gone out of fashion by the early nineteenth century and were not reintroduced until the World War. Swat tactics and flash bang grenades are a much more recent development.
    I really do enjoy your work and hope to hear more of it in the future. Thank you

      It would be 'd' rather than 'p' back then. 20p would have been 4 shillings.
      Some contemporary expressions grate, particularly 'fan' in respect of rugby followers.
      The deductive process in respect of newly introduced clients was a key part of the original works. It would add authenticity to include these in the new stories.
      This probably seems pedantic, but either writing in a faithfully Victorian style or setting the stories in the present day would be preferable.
      Well done for tackling the genre. It's easier to be a critic than an author.

      I came to make the same point about typing charges. Being even more nitpicky it wouldn't have been 2p but 2d.

    As a big SHERLOCK Holmes fan. Not of the present Sherlock Holmes, but of the previous Holmes. I get to sleep to the audiotapes nightly, and they help me so as an asomniac. Thank you

    I was trying to make the connection to the original story and then I remembered “Hosmer.” Given how THAT one turned out I look forward to a far different conclusion. Thanks for the continued tributes. I also, try to stay on top of your humorous references to other stories. I think I catch most of them, but look forward to the next aside.

    What fun! Maybe author could write stories that are eluded to in the original Holmes stories by Watson but never got into print.

    I love these stories. Thank you. I like them so much I even think they are worth all the commercials. Ha. What I don't understand is why anyone would be so rude to take the time to comment that they don't like it as if you forced them to listen. Who are these people and do they act that way in person? Do you think they go out with friends and tell them their shirt is ugly and the cupcakes they made are yucky? It's just so weird. Or I guess, did I miss the sentence where the author asked for our opinion 😅. Surely that must be what happened. 💞

    So since this is an audio book I couldn't recheck, but I thought you said the pub was full on a Friday because people were done working for the week. If so, Britain did not institute a five day work week until 1934. Most people still worked a half Saturday at least. Kind of a minor point. Another minor point. . . the pauses between chapters are sometimes so long as to make me wonder if RUclips has paused the video or taken it down. On the whole a good story though, Thanks.

    Was the elderly man, in Claridges, actually Uncle Peter? That wasn't clear, and this is titled "A Case of Identity Theft?"

    Sounds too much like a bad fanfic rewrite of the original story. I just can't tolerate how out-of-character the main duo are and the details are inflated mirrors to ACD's. It literally sounds like an OP OFC insert with an age change.

    • @oddfellowone
      @oddfellowone Год назад +2

      Being an almost 70 year old OCD/ADD male, I understand that your comment and assume the OP OFC reference is to some sort of fan fiction, but couldn’t find the specific reference. At times I agree with your critique, in that it seems the author attempts to make sure the reader understands that his characters have a modern sensibility of current human rights issues. All in all, though I am enjoying the new stories and can keep them in their separate origins. Take care.

    I enjoy your writing style, except for the dismemberment parts. I like to listen to listen to Sherlock stories to overcome insomnia but the gruesome parts trigger unresolved trauma, so that backfires. Please don’t keep adding dismemberment to your stories.
