The first thing that should have been mentioned for new firearm owners is hearing and eye protection. Haven't you guys been to the range before. I'm sure many first-time gun owners think you just fired off your 357 Magnum in an elevator in walk out and have a normal conversation.
Funny that you mention 357 mag I got tinnitus from 1 round from a 357mag I just got lazy and didn’t feel like throwing my ear pro in and I fired 1 shot instantly regretted it, I was not a new shooter I had ear muffs type ear pro and the little ear buds like I said I just got lazy I had shot thousand of rounds with and without ear pro that 1 shot from the 357 was an instant life changer.

Been married 25 years and "most" of my guns : "I've owned this since before we were married". Granted I buy milsurp and other used firearms, but even the ones I have that weren't manufactured back then, "I've owned this since before we were married". Saves a lot of grief.

Thanks for another great video. IF YOU HAVE MORE GUNS THAN YOU CAN CARRY YOU NEED A SAFE! I’m not opposed to responsible staging but when you have a ton of guns lock them up.
Chad, nice reference to "consumables" on vehicles. I usually have to explain that term to people, hopefully this video inspires people to take better care of their cars and guns!
Ammo, cleaning supplies, carrying cases, safes, then once you have a safe you gotta get more guns, then once that safe is full you gotta get another one or upgrade....

I would love to hear a segment on what you guys and any of the other 2A channels think about the recent protests at the Michigan state capitol building
I’m in Cali, the Ruger MK4 was just added to the handgun roster. So I jumped and bought the pistol for @ $500, then added extra magazines, a mounting plate for a red dot optic and a Leupold Delta Point Pro. So I dumped another $700 on top of the initial cost of the firearm. Another added hidden cost is maintenance consumables, cleaning gear, patches, lubes and solvents.

Love the video. My only issue with insurance companies covering your weapons in case of fire/flood/theft is that you have to give them a list of all your weapons, serial numbers & pictures of those weapons. You have to weigh the choice of being private & off of registration lists with needing to give all your weapon info to an outside source. Just something to consider
I got into guns the same way, well I actually always liked guns since I was from a military family and studied history growing up but the 1st time I got shot at and didn’t have a gun changed my life I realized it was no fun being a sitting duck and I wanted to at least fight back so I too have carried a gun every day since I was legally able to
I realize now that there are many more videos that you have made that answer the questions I posed in my previous comment here. My bad. Thanks for the priceless information, very well presented and appreciated.
One thing is to consider reloading ammo as that will save costs. It also will teach you how ammo works internally and there are many options and loads to chose from.
I hate to say it gents but you missed a few of the very basic expenses that should have been mentioned very early in the presentation. Some of the ones I noticed: 1) Hearing protection, 2) Eye protection, 3) Cleaning supplies, 4) Gun tools - with admonishment not to use regular screwdrivers. Anyone notice any other basic misses??
I just purchased the Tisas Zigana PX9 Great quality “Turkish made” 9mm, Came with three 18 round Mec-Gar mags, A pretty decent “usable” locking holster, Cleaning kit, & a speed loader for only $299.00 from KY Gun Co. Great value!
Getting into reloading...is the biggest hidden cost, and the quest for that "perfect round" or someone gives you a box of ammo on a gun you don't have...so you buy another gun and set of dies.
I have come up with the gun cycle here is how I break it down. 1) buy guns/ammo 2)buy accessories 3)buy bigger or more gun safes/ cabinets 4) realize you have space for more guns/see new guns you want 5) repeat all previous steps
$1500 AR fully kitted out my way, $4500-$5000. Owned an SR-25 years ago. That sucker fully set up with optics, suppressor ext was over $10,000. Things to get are spare lower parts kits, oops kits, basically spare parts for all internal parts including replacement barrels. Also if you ever upgrade your internals like controls, trigger and hammer, buffer, buffer spring, keep the original factory parts. Keeping the original parts are always spare parts.
The true cost of gun ownership is ammo. Unless you get your shit for free like most youtubers that is the highest cost. Everytime the average person goes to the range and shoots that is all self bought. It must be nice to blow through 1k rounds in a youtube video when its all provided free.

Excellent advice.

dont "consider" a gun cleaning kit. its a must. when buying the gun, if you dont have what youll need to clean it too, after you blast the ammo you got with it too, then get a cleaning kit too. seriously though.
Yeah I agree I think owning a gun and not having a gun cleaning kit is pretty sickening! I had a gun cleaning kit when I was 8 years old and I would clean my 22 and my 20 gauge when I got back home from hunting or shooting...
Thank you guys I’m not a newbie but I like hearing what you’re saying to the newbies Way to go guys I’ll be checking you guys out as your program continues thank you!
The first thing that should have been mentioned for new firearm owners is hearing and eye protection. Haven't you guys been to the range before. I'm sure many first-time gun owners think you just fired off your 357 Magnum in an elevator in walk out and have a normal conversation.
That is true, do they have any videos about hearing and eye protection? I want to protect whatever I have left!

I got addicted to guns the first time I got shot at and have carried every day since.
Good steel targets! They make steel gongs that can handle high power ammo but they can be expensive!

One thing is to consider reloading ammo as that will save costs. It also will teach you how ammo works internally and there are many options and loads to chose from.
“Many bullet points” hehe
"Well rounded" 😅
I hate to say it gents but you missed a few of the very basic expenses that should have been mentioned very early in the presentation. Some of the ones I noticed: 1) Hearing protection, 2) Eye protection, 3) Cleaning supplies, 4) Gun tools - with admonishment not to use regular screwdrivers. Anyone notice any other basic misses??

Mec-Gar mags,
A pretty decent “usable” locking holster,
Cleaning kit,

Great value!
Getting into reloading...is the biggest hidden cost, and the quest for that "perfect round" or someone gives you a box of ammo on a gun you don't have...so you buy another gun and set of dies.
I have come up with the gun cycle here is how I break it down.
1) buy guns/ammo
2)buy accessories
3)buy bigger or more gun safes/ cabinets
4) realize you have space for more guns/see new guns you want
5) repeat all previous steps
During tax time, so many rifles leave the shop without cleaning supplies, optics’s, or even ammo half the time,
People think the rifle is the main prize, without ammo, a gun is just a giant metal/polymer stick.
Point and click
They might already have those things.
Loved my Sig Sauer P220, sadly the 14 round mag was $65.
Ahh, parts that wear out now that was something I was not thinking of.
An old roman proverb - You might need a sword once in a life, but to use it - you must carry it with you through all the life.
solid points..... that is why I got rid of my .327 Federal revolver. could not find ammo and when I did it was too expensive.
The true cost of gun ownership is ammo. Unless you get your shit for free like most youtubers that is the highest cost. Everytime the average person goes to the range and shoots that is all self bought. It must be nice to blow through 1k rounds in a youtube video when its all provided free.
When you run out of ammo durin' the flugaloo, use the rifle as a club, or hack "targets" with tomahawks, machetes, knives, and cleavers.
I didn’t think about how expensive 300 blackout ammo is, and I’m going train at the end of the month. The ammo costs more than TWO days of training...

As funny as these comments are, I think you did a GREAT job on this video and the safety video. A lot of us are accustomed to owning firearms, whether we were taught by those before us or taught ourselves. In R.I. not only do you do the background check (10-12 days), but also a Hunter-Firearm Safety test to acquire a 'Blue Card' for a Handgun (2-3 week wait for that), and then if you want to open-carry that requires licensing, concealed carry is another one, and here you need a DAMNED good reason to be a civilian needing to carry concealed...nice thing about all that is it's all free...
