How to change the battery in your iPhone 5c. Even though the battery is internal, it is still possible to change. With just a few simple screws, and some patience, you can get battery pried up and away from the back of the phone and switch it out. The batteries are pretty cheap as well. The battery from the original iPhone 5 will NOT work in the iPhone 5c.

I used this video successfully to change my battery! I feel that 3 points should be made. 1st you should turn of the iphone, 2nd make sure you take out the sim card and lastly the 4 screws holding the screen are all different lengths and it is VERY important to make sure the screws go back into their correct holes when reassembling, else damage to the phone will incure.
I just did it by myself!! Thanks a ton. You just made my dead iPhone work. Keep going. Thanks!!
Nice! Good job. Glad i could help out.
@@JerryRigEverything, sure you are
Thanks for an easy to follow video with good directions.
After 30 minutes, I was successful in my first attempt, saving me about $80.
Man I've never seen such tiny screws!
great instructions easy to follow even for a 75 year old keep up the good work
Thank you for posting this video. It was very helpful. I was so annoyed that my phone started experiencing problems 1 week AFTER the warranty period ended. Thanks to your video tutorial, I was able to purchase a replacement battery and my husband changed the battery. Just beware - there are two strips of double-stick tape that make the original battery very hard to remove. However, once we pried it out, it was easy to follow the steps in the video. The only thing that doesn't work now is my earphone jack, but it was worth it.
The iPhone 5c's battery does bend more than any other phone Ive worked with. I was surprised.
UPDATE:
I finally got it apart but the red tool in the kit was way different than the one you have been showing/using on video. Must have changed it somewhere along the line.
The kit I got has a red plastic tool but it has a slight 'hooked' end instead of the straight end that you are showing.
Needless to say, the hooked end was irritating to use. I had to get my watch repair tools out and use a blunt ended watch-back-remover tool.
Finally got it out and replaced with new battery.
Just wanted to give an update for tool kit.
Thanks again for sharing.
I have a iphone 5c. This battery worked perfectly with my 5c. I did need to turn the battery up-side-down, but that was all, and inconsequential!
Thanks, a very good product!
Wow, if I knew it takes this much trouble to change the battery, I would never have bought this iPhone. Thank you for the demo. .
Your tip on using a heat gun to soften the adhesive was helpful. I ended up using a heating pad to warm my phone, though I did remove the adhesive instead of reusing it.
Thank you so much for this video. The instructions that came with the battery had several unnecessary steps that were so confusing and poorly illustrated, I panicked half way through. This video saved my phone! I did have a non responsive screen so I had to take it apart and disconnect and then reconnect everything and thankfully that worked.
Excellent video, had no issues swapping out my battery. However, if you are attempting to do the same, be very cautious not to touch essential parts of the interior. I managed to swap it out by holding the outer shell, don't touch the inner workings unless you have to!
********ALSO********
when inserting the screen back into place, I found out that if you secure the bottom of the screen first, the HOME button WILL NOT WORK once the phone has been powered on. So, SECURE THE UPPERMOST PART OF THE SCREEN INTO THE PHONE FIRST, then work your way down.
That's a LOT of bending for a battery that could burst into flames with the slightest damage, especially if it's already a weak & borderline damaged battery to begin with. VERY RISKY!
Well done! Thanks for going through each step thoroughly. Great camera angles and close ups too.
Excellent instructions with one small exception. When prying out the battery, DO NOT pry from the motherboard side. This will either damage or remove chips essential to making sure that certain functions, such as the touchscreen, home button, power button, etc.,work.
Thank you so much!!!
+Ami Patel I second that! I did like the video at 1:40 and pried out the battery from the mobo side and now it won't charge / home button doesn't work. Must have damaged the motherboard. Make sure to pry from the other side!
Common sense
Thanks for the DIY video. very straight forward. I liked how you didn't fumble the tiny screws like I know I will do. You have incredible manual dexterity and/or good editing skills. ;)

Thanks for posting! Worked like a charm. I would say heating the back of the case or removing the screen from the case is required as the battery is stuck in there pretty good, wouldn't want to damage a $30 screen replacing a $5 battery.
Just did it, thanks to this great video! I did not remove the screen but kept it vertical as much as possible, as instructed.
Excellent tutorial. Followed and swapped the screen in about the 4 minutes advertised! One thing, one of the screws on the screen bracket is longer than the others - goes top Right. Thanks for this great tutorial. A+
I followed the video, success! However I could NOT get two of the four screws back in that hold screen cables. It works just fine. Thanks! Awesome instructions!
BEWARE There is a bus circuit under the battery towards the top of the phone under the battery. You can see it in the video right where the pointy end of the white glue tape is. When separating the battery one of these got cut/ripped.... just a heads up when sliding whatever you use to separate the battery from the phone... =(
Just sat down, and swapped the battery in about 25-30 minutes. BTW... get one of the "tool kits", they run $3-10 on eBay, but you've got to have one to pop the screen, unseat press-fit cables, etc. Helps to have the suction cup(s) too.
Some tips get one of those magnifying glasses with the lights in them or an arm with a lighted magnifying lens. Also get a magnet and magnetize the screw drivers that helps a lot from dropping the screws into the phone. I used a magnet to hold the screws while I was working on it. If the control button at the bottom of the screen doesn't work pull up the screen again and make sure the small spring contacts where next to the button are bent up so they touch the screen. I also was not able to get the battery off the case the glue they used was really stuck I used a metal screw driver and wiggled it under the battery which did the trick but also shorted the old battery and released some gas which isn't good. It could have caught fire so my opinion is if local phone repair shop charges $30 to do this I would have them do it. I was able to get it done.
anyone trying this make sure you heat the battery glue before removing it makes it ALOT easier !
great vid thanks for the help :)
Thanks, this is great help.
I did everything the videos said to do, I get nada. The phone heats up,while charging but nothing more.
Excellent video with clear instructions. My battery change went very well but I managed to lose a screw from the screen cable retention plate - went flying off somewhere.
Thanks! I enjoy making these kinds of videos.
Thank you so much for the video!! Just got my son's phone working again because of you. Much appreciated!!
Thanks for the video...I am sure you have had this phone apart several times before. It's not as easy in real-life as in your video...but I did get it done.
That white sticky strip(s) was replaced with rolling a good quality tape back over itself so battery will not move. Works great.
Thanks again.
Thanks for a great instructional video. I wish I had paid attention to your recommendation to pop off the screen connectors. I didn't and despite being super careful when I popped the battery in, I broke the smallest ribbon cable to the screen. Didn't notice until I turned it on! Will be more careful to follow your advice exactly next time. Others be warned...
Cheers buddy, just replaced my battery after watching this video, much appreciated
Excellent video- very good camera work, excellent narrative. Worked like a champ for me. Thank you!!!
Thanks for the video, it made installation a breeze! I didn't have to take off the screen, the hair dryer made it very easy to take the battery off.
Very helpful.. The best video I found on the subject.. Thanks Brother! I could listen to your voice all day..lol
The reason all of you, who are commenting that now your screen doesn't turn on, or home button doesn't work, or power button doesn't work, or screen isn't touch responsive anymore, is because you damaged the logic board by prying the battery out as done in the video. Doing it this way you are pressing right on the logic board itself!!! Instead, you should remove the adhesive strips themselves from under the battery by pulling them gently around the battery edges. Though more time consuming, it is much much safer.
Instructions I could understand, and it's working! Incredible. Thank you Mr Jerry Rig!!
i did exactly how had you learned us, now from a few moments, and my phone work perfectly. thanks man.
Good Instructions, other than I would not put the battery connector back in until the very last moment. This is because the first thing you should do is remove power, and the last put it back on. For example, If you drop a screw on the board and have the battery connected, you get smoke and a dead phone. If there is no power, no big deal. Fart around with it as little as possible while it has power connected!
Thanks for the video. Got the battery replaced for my daughter.
Thank you so much for uploading it saved me 🙌
Used your video. Followed it to the tee. Power button not working as it does not work to turn phone screen on or off. Any advice Sir? Appreciate the video!
Great tutorial, I followed this video step by step. Quite easy if you're used to fiddling around with psp's, xbox'es and ps3's ;)
Hey jerry thanks for the video helped a lot although it worked but my phone is not able to charge the battery idk why it says it's charging but never goes up
Thank you very much for helping me fix my iPhone 5c
The video was good-I followed it to the letter. My 5C is now officially dead as dead can get! :-(
Thank you for the video as I was able to change the battery following your instructions. However, I think I messed up something because the home button is not working now and it was working before. What do you think I did that cause this to happen?
Thank you for taking the time and to show me where to buy the tools and parts.
+joe mo No problem! Glad I could help out.
Thank you for showing how to do this. It was very helpful.
In his old videos it doesn’t sound like an asmr
Nice and calm and simple. Thanks.
Thanks! Worked like a charm!
Thanks for this. Having trouble getting the connector to clip back in place. Any tips?
Do you have to reapply glue on the bottom of the new battery so that it stays stable like the factory did with the old one that you extracted ?
Excellent presentation - gave me the courage to try it... and it worked fine except I dropped one of the microscopic screws when trying to replace it - I had everything laid out on a white towel so I could see and keep track of everything - couldn't find the little screw so I used additional elec tape to help put pressure on the little battery connector bracket it holds one end of. Only concern is I'm afraid the screw fell into the phone chassis - if so, I can only hope it never rattles around and creates a problem for a circuit. If you ever do any more work on this video, I'd suggest adding a heads-up about the difficulty of replacing the brackets/screws - it's really difficult - the kit I bought had magnetic screwdrivers but the magnetism wasn't strong enough to pick up the larger of the microscopic screws - eventually I got by bye putting a little bar soap on the screwdriver and it stuck well enough to let me lower it into position. Anyway, thanks again - very nice presentation!
I did the same thing. Screw is still somewhere in my daughter's phone. Spent about half an hour shaking and bumping it trying to find but no luck. Finally gave up and put it back together minus screw in one side of battery connector hold-down tab. Powered up and work fine. As long as screw is in a position it can't cause a short should be good. Time will tell. Those screws are so small and I didn't have a magnetic screwdriver.
*so this is rig even before ruining everything phones*
My husband installed the new battery, but they don't tell tell you if the battery should be charged once installed. Tried to power it on and nothing. So plugged the phone in to charge and it showed the battery was empty and is now charging. We'll see if all works well after the battery charges completely. Fingers crossed!
Thanks Jerry for the video, very useful
I changed the battery and it came on, but that's all it will do. Can't slide the screen or turn it off, and it has vertical white lines on the screen.
Thanks for this video! I just replaced my battery but it still will not turn on. The white apple logo shows as usual for start up but then it disappears after 5-10 seconds. It is a start up problem at this point and by changing batteries, I voided the warranty that I don't think I had in the first place anyways. What should I do now?
is the phone suppose to start up right away or what is suppose to happen afterwards because mine isn't doing anything... won't turn on.
Do you not need to put adhesive on the new battery when putting it back in?
Absolutely
Thank you so much for this video! I will save some decent money doing this myself.
I can't got the bottom screw to move, much less come all the way out. I've tried all of the tools and none of them work!
There is a reason for those pull tabs...
Hey Jerry, thanks for your amazing videos. I was wondering, do you know if the iphone 5C cellular antenna can be changed? I am getting no signal (no service) so my cellphone is pretty much useless at this point. Where I live is way to expensive to send it to a "professional" shop, so I wanted to give it a try and fix it myself.
Just completed the installation using these instructions. The new battery had a 33% charge and seems to be charging up properly now. Only problem is that I have lost control of the volume buttons and the silencer on the side of the phone. Any thoughts? Hopefully this fix will get me to November and the end of this contract! Thank you!
Hi, does the screw driver come with the tool kit?
Hello I replaced the battery on my iphone 5. Now the camera does not store the pics to the photos file. I can not find the pictures; so where are they being stored? Please help
thank you so much you explain it so well and so clear i just have to saw it once to learn how to do it
jose Padro Nice! Glad I could help out!
I scratched the ribbon cable behind the battery as I was trying to remove the old battery. Now my phone stucked in reboot loop and I want to know if that is because of what I did?
Will it last longer mine only lasts 1 and a half
Is it necessary to take away the display?
my iPhone just flashes the apple logo every couple of seconds and only turns on when connected to the charger.. I followed all steps and did them correctly. Any help??
When I got a new battery I replaced it and it won't charge but it shows that it is does that mean the battery is defective?
Hi so I did the procedure exactly as you showed, and now my screen has huge black stripes across it and doesn't react to touch. Any suggestions?
Nice video! Love you channel bro!
Are all of the 5c replacement batteries the same size? I have a 32GB phone. Do I need a special battery?
Successfully changed battery and everything works except the on/ off on the top off my phone. What did I do wrong to cause this? Thanks!
I really want to know that, If I take off battery because I want to do something and after that I want to take there the same baterry, how can I do it? Like I mean, I need glue? or not?
5c’s battery same as regular iphone 5? Or 5s?
Do u have to remove the SIM card ? When replacing the new battery
When you replace your battery do you lose any pictures or anything saved on your phone?
@jerryrigeverything, this batery that you recommend is trustworthy? I need to change my batery, but i'm afraid of buying one that explodes or this kind of shit... thanks.
One last question. My battery percent draining every 2 or 3 min. Can I do anything else from preventing that.
Can't you pull the adhesive tabs??
@jerryrigeverything where did you buy this iphone 5c batter? Can you send me the link please...
That awkward moment when you accidentally puncture it and it spits flames for a second 😂
Can I still changed the battery with a cracked screen?
Hey, did everything right i thought, but now the phone wont turn on like the battery isnt connected or something??
My Iphone 5c did NOT have any glue holding the battery down... Makes me wonder if it was a refurb... But anyhow, before you go taking the screen off, test the battery 1st to save yourself work.
I've followed this step by step and now my iPhone's home button isn't working? Please help!!
Hi! I followed your steps but now the screen doesn't turn up, There appears some colored strips and the home button doesn't work... Anything I could do?
this was very very useful and clear and awesome. and thank you ^_^
Jessica Dru No problem! Glad I could help.
Will this work if my iPhone 5c only works on the charger ?
are the Repair Universe batteries completely reliable? Just making sure because I've heard buying from Amazon/eBay is not a good idea. I took the old battery out.. just need to buy the new one.. please answer! thanks
Leanne Riseley My phone started dying quickly then soon it died all at once and i was unable to power it on I now replaced the battery what do I do now??
I exchanged the battery, and the phone works , the battery charges. but the case doesn't shut flush anymore. It bulges one one side or the other. What did I do wrong? The home button doesn't work, and the on/off button doesn't work either. Help!
Worked perfectly. If not for the glue it would've been pretty easy. Thanks.
I followed All the instructions on the video but my touch screen does not work and it doesn't charge at all
