Nothing is MADE in the country it says it is. The VIN Sticker may say that it is manufactured at the assembly plant, but assembly plants literally only assemble nowadays. The only MANUFACTURING plant that Mazda has that is currently active in the USA is the Alabama Plant, which is a joint venture with Toyota. And they only produce parts for a few vehicles. Made in the USA is just an advertising campaign anymore.

I agree. I have owned several RX-7s, Corvettes, Camaros and Mustangs. I would rate them as follows: Mustangs, are gorgeous but fair quality. Camaros, fun and good looking. Good quality. Corvettes, by far the fastest and true chick magnets. Excellent quality. Rx-7s. Best cars ever. Fast, good-looking, never had a problem with them. Zoom Zoom.

Handling is a relative term. When 99% of roads are staright as an arrow, there is no "handling" involved. You might as well drive a wheel barrow. Take the car on a twisty, curvy, up and down road, then we will talk about "handling".
I started working for a Mazda dealership as a lot attendant/car washer about 3 months ago. The CX-50s are pretty neat. They handle pretty well and have good visibility. To me the CX-5s just feel like they have even better visibility, plus a better turning radius. For me personally, I'd go with a CX-5. But the 50s look really cool. Mazda should definitely keep both models.
At least the Toyota CVTs use a launch gear to minimize the wear on the link belt when starting out. That was a real improvement over the Nissan version of a CVT!
We have a Mexican 2015 Mazda 3, 100k miles with no issues other than changing brake pads and tires. We'll buy at least one more Mazda unless they give us a reason not to.
One of my friend has recently bought cx-50, and we had a nice long road trip together. It is a great car, interior design is plain and useful, car has enough room for 5 adult passengers, trunk is large enough to fit large suitcases, sound isolation is well made; you don't hear any wind, road or engine sound. The vehicle gets decent gas mileage. Engine is powerful enough to do all tasks you demand from the car.
I mean, they look better than 90s, 2000s and 2010s cars though. those looked way worse than cars do now. you'd have to probably go back to 70s or 60s to find good looking cars
EVERYTHING NOW is an SUV😢 SADLY. Modern people knock the mid-1970’s. At least BACK THEN, variety of vehicles and body/interior color choices were UNLIMITED. Take 1976 for example… Chevy Nova or Cad. Seville, Granada or Maverick, Dart or Aspen, Hornet or VW Rabbit???? Coupe, sedan or wagon??? 6-7 different interior colors, body colors yellow, reds orange, greens, purple… 1970’s “ malaise era”? Todays SUVs In black grey white all with grey interiors… today is the malaise era. CB
I'm sick of SUVs and stupidly large pickup trucks that should require a different license to operate. Both can be sold without the same safety requirements levied against cars, making many of them considerably more dangerous to the driver and other drivers or pedestrians. I'd like to see more hatchbacks and station wagons; I really wish the Subaru Outback Wilderness had an option for manual transmission or a different kind of automatic transmission. It verges on being an SUV, but offers better visibility and rollover prevention. My Wilderness is among my favorite cars, knocked to second place by my WRX TR which I'm building out for more off road capability.

I have a 2006 Pontiac GP with 430,000 miles on it... I think they ALL are garbage...... I don't want the electromechanical digital abortions... I HATE adaptive cruise control and automated braking... and I PARTICULARLY HATE that damnable engine auto start-stop.... Scotty, I've loved automobiles all my life and I've had some great cars, from a 56 BelAir on... but there is not one single car left on the market I want... not one.... I hate SUVs what am I going to do when the Pontiac finally reaches unsustainability? I NEED a car, and I have enough to afford something decent, but there IS nothing decent.... big pretentious pickup trucks and ugly, squatty, overteched foreign cars....
I hate all those electronic features too, they seem pointless and expensive to repair, we did fine without them for decades, you will have to find another old car to replace the Pontiac. Good Luck .
Hybrid vehicles cost more tyan ICE vehicles, negating any cost savings with the hybrid's higher mpg. Then you have the issue of battery replacement for the hybrid system once it dies after 8 years or so of use. Will be expensive to replace.
Perhaps slow down from 75 mph! ;-) I owned a RAM Promaster that got 24 mpg if I slowed down to 60-65 mph. Wind resistance is a real thing! Faster you go, it squares the drag factor.
You quoted the CX-5 and CX50 engine ratings wrong. Both cars have the same engine options so you quoted the higher premium gas ratings for the CX-50 and the lower regular gas ratings for the CX-5. But the most critical omission is that the CX-5 still has the multi link rear suspension while the CX-50 has the cheaper torsion beam rear suspension which may provide more cargo width but sacrifices handling over uneven pavement. Newer isn't always better.

I’m so lost with all these choices. My beloved 2008 Mazda 3 won’t make it through the winter and decisions have to be made! I have roll up windows and a stick shift but love this old car. Never had any of this new tech…can’t see why I’d want an iPad glued to my dash, but I guess I must get with the times. Binging on Scotty’s content is the only way I’ll get through this!
If it makes you feel any better Mazda still has the most physical controls out of most mainstream manufacturers. Also most of the current Mazdas are really reliable (CX 90, CX 70 too new to tell) they would easily give your 2008 Mazda a run for its money.
I picked up a 2024 CX-50 turbo model back in April. I have a history with Mazda, and stayed with it due to the long-term reliability. The CX-50 is well-equipped, and is fun to drive. On the downside, I'm not getting anywhere near the stated miles per gallon. At least its not as boring as a RAV 4 or Honda CRV. 😏
So why didn't you cover any one of the 5 subaru SUV; any of which are better at adventure driving than the whole pack? The Forester base model is about 30K and is a great SUV. Thanks for this video
It's true! I just traded a 2021 Ch-R for a Mazda CX-50. Before I used 1 tank a month and now it's 3 tanks. That's the only complaint I have. It uses a lot of gas. Now I have to put in regular gas because my gas bill went up!
2:05 Both vehicle have the same power with the 2.5L Turbo. 256hp 320 lb-ft is on Octane 93 and 227hp 310 lb-ft is on Octane 91. Maybe they are different in the US but that's that what they are in Canada.
I tested some CX-50s when I was shopping. In general, I really liked the the turbo versions. In my opinion, they’re in a different class than any CUVs from Toyota and Honda. I considered the Meridian, but back then it only came in two colors with only one interior color option if you chose leather. The other (sporty) versions seemed to ride too firm without the handling.
They haven't merged. Toyota owns about 5% of Mazda and they have a joint venture manufacturing facility in Alabama to manufacture the Corolla Cross and CX50.

Mazda lives on the sales of the CX-5 ... they sell more than all other Mazdas combined.. So, when they introduced the newer CX-50, they are offering both models simultaneously ... it was the safe move.
Mazdas are the most fun to drive over any other standard vehicle. You can feel the sky active benefits and great MPG. And they are zippy and fun all around.
I love my Made in Japan 2021 RAV4 Prime. I wish there were more Toyota Plug-in models, i.e. the Cross would have made for a great "cheaper" version of the RAV4 Prime. Oh well, will buy another RAV4 Prime when time comes.
Too bad about the CHR I was hoping to purchase a new one hopefully in the next 2 to 3 years. Oh well, I'll just keep my 2014 Yaris LE since it's paid for.
Why make something more expensive with no reasonably higher performance and power in the engine? All of these 4cyl engines are the reason why I only buy older used 6cyl or 8 cyl. You can’t make something “adventure” targeted and have it tow exactly the same payload as the city driver. Just junk marketing with little substance
I already decided on a Mazda rather than a Toyota as Toyotas are pretty much out of reach, and you can still get a six speed manual. And Ford still has no V8 option for the Bronco.
I get 48 mpg with the Honda CR-V Hybrid in the city, it's a marval compared to everything else I test drove.I am getting 500 miles per fill up with 1/4 tank left. Then to fill it up with 87 only costs about 35 bucks.
It is unfortunate that nearly all suv's look pretty much the same. Same with audi, Porsche, etc all look pretty much the same across their whole line. Cars used to look different even with one manufacturer.
Hey Scotty as a current owner of 2021 CX5 I think you should mention both the cars of Mazda have relatively shorter front seats. Making people like me with 6 ft height uncomfortable around my thinghs and knees. I wish they had a knee extender atleast for driver seats.

All new toyotas are absolutely garbage . Mazada can still get basic automatic transmissions msnual transmissions, not cvt. And can get engines with no turbos no hybrid. I'd get a mazada before this new toyota junk. Toyota is already facing massive lemon lawsuits and on all their vehicles from The trucks , suvs, cars.

CX-5 is still made in Japan. CX-50 is made in the US. I'd take a made in Japan vehicle over anything made in the US.

CX-70 GT-P 2025 for me
Mazda is gaining on Toyota's quality. And Mazda still makes automatic transmissions (as opposed to cvts) for even their lowest-priced vehicles.
I really don't mind Toyota's CVT. With the launch gear it's fine, and has proven to be reliable
They even have a dipstick on transmission.
All cvts are junk but I bought a nissan because it's 250 a month not 600 a month

All gas Toyota RAV4's are not cvt's. The hybrid's are planetary gear driven CVT's not belt driven.

The horsepower and torque for both Turbo models is the same. You gave 93 octane numbers for the cx-50 and 87 octane numbers for the cx-5.

Those aren’t compact SUVs. They’re small sized SUVs. Compacts are: Honda HRV, Toyota CH-R, Kia Kicks, etc.

I have a 2006 Pontiac GP with 430,000 miles on it... I think they ALL are garbage...... I don't want the electromechanical digital abortions... I HATE adaptive cruise control and automated braking... and I PARTICULARLY HATE that damnable engine auto start-stop.... Scotty, I've loved automobiles all my life and I've had some great cars, from a 56 BelAir on... but there is not one single car left on the market I want... not one.... I hate SUVs what am I going to do when the Pontiac finally reaches unsustainability? I NEED a car, and I have enough to afford something decent, but there IS nothing decent.... big pretentious pickup trucks and ugly, squatty, overteched foreign cars....
I hate all those electronic features too, they seem pointless and expensive to repair, we did fine without them for decades, you will have to find another old car to replace the Pontiac. Good Luck .

@@RiseUpRoyalAce The engine isn't the only wear item. Metal fatigue and rotted bushings and worn suspension makes a old vehicle a shambles as well!
I looked at both in 2022 and got the cx5 because it had more length in case I wanted to sleep in it.

Hybrid vehicles cost more tyan ICE vehicles, negating any cost savings with the hybrid's higher mpg. Then you have the issue of battery replacement for the hybrid system once it dies after 8 years or so of use. Will be expensive to replace.
Just bought a 2024 cx5 for my wife. Ive taken it on several road trips already. Best im getting is 23mpg. My 2000 mercury grand marquis gets 20mpg.
Perhaps slow down from 75 mph! ;-) I owned a RAM Promaster that got 24 mpg if I slowed down to 60-65 mph. Wind resistance is a real thing! Faster you go, it squares the drag factor.

You quoted the CX-5 and CX50 engine ratings wrong. Both cars have the same engine options so you quoted the higher premium gas ratings for the CX-50 and the lower regular gas ratings for the CX-5. But the most critical omission is that the CX-5 still has the multi link rear suspension while the CX-50 has the cheaper torsion beam rear suspension which may provide more cargo width but sacrifices handling over uneven pavement. Newer isn't always better.
These kind of informational videos by Scotty is a world of difference from his high-pitched regular videos. Scotty is in a class all his own with this type of video. Great job Scotty!

My CX-30 is about the same size as a CX-5, with a "chopped roof". The CX-50. like whatever Mazda offers as the next "size". CX-3's are hatchbacks.
I’m so lost with all these choices. My beloved 2008 Mazda 3 won’t make it through the winter and decisions have to be made! I have roll up windows and a stick shift but love this old car. Never had any of this new tech…can’t see why I’d want an iPad glued to my dash, but I guess I must get with the times. Binging on Scotty’s content is the only way I’ll get through this!

If it makes you feel any better Mazda still has the most physical controls out of most mainstream manufacturers. Also most of the current Mazdas are really reliable (CX 90, CX 70 too new to tell) they would easily give your 2008 Mazda a run for its money.
If you must get a new Mazda get another Mazda 3 with the 6MT
Bought a 24 CX5 in January. 13,800 on it so far. Really like it. Mind you it’s my driver as I have an 18 Wrangler money pit

The horsepower is not as relevant in a hybrid since the electric motors give a hybrid exceptional low-speed torque. That Cross is a good-looking car!

The CX-5 engine is made in Japan. The engine for the CX-50 is made in Mexico….if it matters.

Brothers love their Mazdas. One got ~10% off MSRP & 0% for 36 months on a carbon edition cx-5. Thing looks so slick.
I picked up a 2024 CX-50 turbo model back in April. I have a history with Mazda, and stayed with it due to the long-term reliability. The CX-50 is well-equipped, and is fun to drive. On the downside, I'm not getting anywhere near the stated miles per gallon. At least its not as boring as a RAV 4 or Honda CRV. 😏
So why didn't you cover any one of the 5 subaru SUV; any of which are better at adventure driving than the whole pack? The Forester base model is about 30K and is a great SUV. Thanks for this video

Our 2020 CHR gets 39mpg real world average. We are very pleased with it. It is slow but if you drive slow it rewards you at the pump

It's true! I just traded a 2021 Ch-R for a Mazda CX-50. Before I used 1 tank a month and now it's 3 tanks. That's the only complaint I have. It uses a lot of gas. Now I have to put in regular gas because my gas bill went up!

2:05 Both vehicle have the same power with the 2.5L Turbo. 256hp 320 lb-ft is on Octane 93 and 227hp 310 lb-ft is on Octane 91. Maybe they are different in the US but that's that what they are in Canada.

imho ist der CX 5 schöner und eleganter im Design. der CX 50 hat viel zu viel Plastic an der Karrosserie und sieht ziemlich grob aus.
I tested some CX-50s when I was shopping. In general, I really liked the the turbo versions. In my opinion, they’re in a different class than any CUVs from Toyota and Honda. I considered the Meridian, but back then it only came in two colors with only one interior color option if you chose leather. The other (sporty) versions seemed to ride too firm without the handling.
They haven't merged. Toyota owns about 5% of Mazda and they have a joint venture manufacturing facility in Alabama to manufacture the Corolla Cross and CX50.
for me the mpg is not that important ...its idioticy compares to car prices
I only drive 6k miles a year myself. A tank of gas per month is affordable. I go for utility and reliability.
I have a 94 b4000 Mazda and 22 Toyota Tacoma 4 cyl love them both Mazda has a manual transmission
Hey Scotty, I got a question? Why do you think the CX 50 2025 hybrid does not get the same mileage as say the CX 70 or CX 90 hybrids being that they have four-cylinder engines ? and do you think they will alter the dash in a year or two upgrading infotainment?
The 2025 CX -50 is already confirmed to have a hybrid model in the US. It should be available to purchase already or soon.

Mazda and Toyota aren't merging and their partnership is like the one Toyota has with Subaru. They jointly build some vehicles and shared certain technologies.

Mazda lives on the sales of the CX-5 ... they sell more than all other Mazdas combined.. So, when they introduced the newer CX-50, they are offering both models simultaneously ... it was the safe move.
Mazda is borrowing the Hybrid technology from Toyota to put in the 2025 CX-50.
Mazdas are the most fun to drive over any other standard vehicle. You can feel the sky active benefits and great MPG. And they are zippy and fun all around.
I have a skyactive Mazda..... if the skyactive benefits are boring & harsh ride, then I understand

I love my Made in Japan 2021 RAV4 Prime. I wish there were more Toyota Plug-in models, i.e. the Cross would have made for a great "cheaper" version of the RAV4 Prime. Oh well, will buy another RAV4 Prime when time comes.

Why make something more expensive with no reasonably higher performance and power in the engine? All of these 4cyl engines are the reason why I only buy older used 6cyl or 8 cyl. You can’t make something “adventure” targeted and have it tow exactly the same payload as the city driver. Just junk marketing with little substance

I already decided on a Mazda rather than a Toyota as Toyotas are pretty much out of reach, and you can still get a six speed manual. And Ford still has no V8 option for the Bronco.

I get 48 mpg with the Honda CR-V Hybrid in the city, it's a marval compared to everything else I test drove.I am getting 500 miles per fill up with 1/4 tank left. Then to fill it up with 87 only costs about 35 bucks.

Mazdas have gotten so nice over the years they almost need to spin off a luxury-ish brand (i.e. Lexus/Genesis/Acura) to better target that market

It is unfortunate that nearly all suv's look pretty much the same. Same with audi, Porsche, etc all look pretty much the same across their whole line. Cars used to look different even with one manufacturer.
Hey Scotty as a current owner of 2021 CX5 I think you should mention both the cars of Mazda have relatively shorter front seats. Making people like me with 6 ft height uncomfortable around my thinghs and knees. I wish they had a knee extender atleast for driver seats.

All new toyotas are absolutely garbage . Mazada can still get basic automatic transmissions msnual transmissions, not cvt. And can get engines with no turbos no hybrid. I'd get a mazada before this new toyota junk. Toyota is already facing massive lemon lawsuits and on all their vehicles from The trucks , suvs, cars.
The 50 has my attention!!!
