@@niemann7214 If you truly think there are guys there who have less training than a 15 year old, I don't even know what to tell you. And genetics 100% plays a part in his success, not saying he didn't work hard but I don't think he'd be there if he wasn't like 6'5 with a 17 meter wingspan and could palm a yoga ball.
@@leo-vb5jq your right, but I heard he trained 10 years without stopping. No breaks on holidays, no days off. It’s insane, I get genetics play a huge part but people discredit the insane work ethic he had
I was sitting on the deck watching when the first guy broke 2 minutes for 200 free. That was in 1963. When I was 15 I went 2:18 for 200 fly and that was pretty fast.
PrimaL for most people, 200 butterfly is definitely more exhausting cuz you can still move when you’re tired when you’re swimming backstroke breaststroke and freestyle, but definitely not for butterfly
As a former swimmer (and butterflier) the 200 still gives me nightmares. Hardest race in swimming. Last ten meters the water feels like liquid mercury.
@@bigstronkbee :-) The majority of butterfly swimmers raise their head to the front to breathe. Phelps did. But turning the head to the side doesn't raise it out of the water as much, thus not lowering the body behind it as much, attempting to create less drag. Depends on the swimmer.
Narayan Maharana There is no specific age limit for olympics actually! Individual sports can set limits though, for example gymnastics recently raised theirs to 16
Clearly u never watched other Olympics games before. Nadia Comaneci, a gymnast, got her gold medals and the first ever perfect 10.0 score when she was 14.
15 year old us : watching netflix and getting drunk drinking coke
15 year old phelps: gets first place in olympic heats
You don't have to win a Olympic medal to be successful in life. Just doing sports as good as you can...
well i dont behave like you
as 15 year old this is very true
How do you get drunk on coke?

The greatest Olympian of all time.
And then he developed his legendary underwater turns!!

He's 15 and is 1 second away from the World record. Never again in our lifetimes will we see that!
This was amazing. Phelps was a full body length behind at the halfway point and still won.
i feel so useless after seeing this, but seriously good on him I didnt know you could be that young to qualify to go to the olympics
Very good pacing for a 15 year old. He went out in ‘56 and came back in about 61, compared to 55/63 from the others.
Bowman coached him well.
what i never knew that micheal phelps won his first olympic race
thats why hes the goat and no one will ever be like phelps

How's he 15 and already in the olymipcs? I was still wetting the bed at that age seriously.

imo the minum age for participation in Olympics should be 18, or at least 15. These are still children.
