    • @skatevidcentral
      @skatevidcentral 6 лет назад +75

      LOL Kemp can't shoot? He was a good midrange shooter, what you smoking. He was no Pippen but he was known as a good defender.
      "There's a long list of guys today just as athletic as Kemp, they just have more skill."
      Have to disagree with this too. I agree there are lots of athletic guys, but "more skill" not really. If anything players lack a lot of fundamentals these days, especially big men.
      Also his PPG wasn't a reflection of his ability. The system George Karl ran on those Sonics teams was really distributed attack, they had a lot of double digit scorers on the roster and did a lot of run and gun rather than pounding it into the paint. Both he and Payton averaged 18-20 ppg in that system. Once Karl left you'll notice Payton's shot attempts and PPG went up, as well as minutes.

      Guys act like the 80s/90s were 100 years ago. Lmao it's was 20-30 years ago. These basketballer players are the same athletes. The rule chamges truly watered down the defense in basketball. You can't even breathe today without getting a tech. Jordan terrorized tough Zones in the 80s and averaged 37 PPG on 53% shooting. People really think he couldn't average 45-50 a night with almost no contact nowadays. The 90s was the greatest era of basketball.

    With all due respect to Nique, MJ, Vince, Blake Griffin, Lebron - the greatest in-game dunker ever is Shawn Kemp. It's not about just the physical act of the dunk - it was the total package of this lanky but ripped dude that could jump out of the gym at 6'10 and who also had this style that has never been replicated. The way he used to land after a dunk like he was spiderman, I mean there is just something nobody else has had before or after. His dunks had nicknames - "the Lister Blister" dunk is still to this day the most savage dunk ever seen on a pro basketball court. A full body extension stuff that sent a 7'0 240 guy flying into the courtside seats with the spiderman landing then hitting him with the double lazer point and pump. The GOAT, there is no better.

      Kemp managed to get something similar from Dennis Rodman after putting his nuts in Rodman's face(!) here: ruclips.net/video/_awEtPJXL7E/видео.html - And Rodman still acknowledged Kemp's play afterwards.

    He is a highlight reel and should be in the hall of fame.6xall star, 3 time all NBA, help Seattle to the NBA finals with Gary Payton in 96. Should of at least have an all defensive team selection because of his versatility in multiple positions.

    1996 is the best we saw of him. He showed he’s not only a dunker, but his accuracy from mid-range cannot be underestimated. He could rebound and block shots. He is the reason why the Sonics were in the 96 Finals and being able to prolong the series to 6 Games before eventually felling to MJ and the Bulls. While the other Sonics choked against the Bulls, he held his own and the Bulls needed Rodman to provoke and frustrate him.

    When Seattle played the bulls in the finals I was a huge bulls fan because of Jordan, also because of Pippen who was from my area. But on one occasion Kemp threw Rodman to the floor & I actually cheered for Kemp "Way to go kick Rodman's ass!" I hated Rodman even as he was playing for my team!

The only 6.7+ I really like because he could move with such agility and throw high fly beautiful dunks. The way he takes off, fly, double pump, dunks, hangs and twist... Unique !!!
