    The Cape Breton one is far more technically complex, but I prefer the jig for style and joie de vivre 🌵💗⚡

      Girl in trousers is doing step dancing which is popular in Cape Breton and the girl in red is doing a Scottish highland dance called "Irish Jig", also popular in Cape Breton.

      @@mmbturtle5134 • Thanks for the clarification. I'm no dance expert so when RUclips starting pushing these to me I watch. The Scottish dances seem to be closer to the "reels" I learned in school but another commentor pooh-poohed the idea. So much to learn, so little time.😕

      How you can tell is that Irish step dancing is done with the arms down to the sides. This is because the English had outlawed dancing to crush the Irish culture and spirit. But the logic was that if they weren't flinging their arms around the people could say they were simply walking funny.

    The title of this video is contradictory. There is no Irish Jig. It is a Scottish Highland Dance Jig vs. a Cape Breton Jig.

      I was a highland dancer this was called the Irish Irish when I used to dance. You would have to be a highland dancer to understand this.

      Exactly what I said..the Scottish dancer danced to a well known Irish jig and the Irish dancer danced to a Scottish Jig, if your gonna do it then do it properly and get your dancers dancing to the correct tunes!!..

    Well done ladies..but us SCOTS...are obviously the better off the two... And I totally luv that Irish jig thing,, and that Scottish broadsword dance is again just amazing..     What's the difference in this Scottish dance and tap dancing other than the music. Having grown up in Tennessee I've often wondered the same about the Application Flat Foot Dance and Tap.

      American tap was no doubt inspired by these and other traditional dances. However one difference is the shoes, tap shoes usually having looser “taps” (metal plates) than jig shoes.

      I've done highland dancing in south Africa and Australia and that's the skipping we use. different teachers use different skipping as long as it is in the rule book.

      apart from the tune called the Irish washer woman, the tune which is Irish trad, is also a gig, and the dance originated in Ireland.. Yea nothing Irish about it at all

      There's a traditional Scottish dance which is called "Irish Jig". It is traditionally performed in red/green dress. One of the girls is performing "Irish Jig" which is actually a Scottish dance ;)

      Школа танцев Shady Glen There is no traditional Scottish dance which is called "Irish Jig" some unknown tunes in the Scottish repertoire may well be called "Irish Jig" but that does not make the dance an Irish Jig. You would be hard pushed to prove that any dance is traditionally performed in red/green dress - people didn't have that luxury!

      The girl using the Irish jig is called The Irish Washerwoman. It's mostly used for Irish dance light jigs.

      Anaelle Duncan lass, us Scottish don't need the aarrsh jig, we have cattle to clog. Besides we use drums to keep tae beat. All the Irish have are broken oaths and betrayals.

    The only good step for the Irish dancer was the last step. All the others were so boring and so much the same. Scottish Irish Jig is so much better All the time. Scottish all the way.

    I think it's skirt gal, and trouser gal. One plays basketball ball, the other is a runway model. And obviously neither is doing cancer treatment, doing pest extermination, or wearing store bought clothes from Thailand ( of Thai culture).
    I suppose they could be fighting excess caffiene use, but neither has pulled on gun on me to force my gay self to make babies with them. So, they seem alright with me.
    Or should I rethink that, being I'm the invisible Man standing at the X center and they're both wondering why they just got touched on the shoulder.

    Soooooo made up !!! This is not traditional Scottish dance. A poor attempt at trying to put together something without any tradition. Scotland does not have the same history as Irish dance yet tries to promote itself as if it has.

Don't be so damned ignorant we're all Celts and some of our traditions are the same including the Gaelic language.. Shows like River dance have toured the world and are often sold out everywhere can you say the same?? Instead of being jealous try embracing your Celtic cousins culture as we are the same people after all..
