    Thank you for the good explanation! I’m trying to learn how to use Numbers for my budget & want to use pop-up menues for different expenses. Do you know if there’s a way to save the different pop-up alternatives so that I don’t have to make the same ones again & again every month?
    And another question: I tried to make columns for the different expenses last month, but then it seemed like the program had difficulties with calculating the total sum in some of them & I’m not sure why. Have you also experienced that? Would be nice to hear from you!

    Thx a lot for your video! Is there a way to open the pop-up-list without using the mouse? I would like to click in the cell, type the first letter and have the pop-up-list dropdown so I can choose using the arrows on the keyboard 😁 Is this possible?

    • @APPLE1TO1
      @APPLE1TO1  7 месяцев назад

      No. Pop up has to be a click and a list. Best option is when you start manually entering items in above cells, it tries to guess the auto-fill.

    I learned a lot. Thank you. I really struggle with changing/amending existing text. I always have to retype it 😕when I really want to change/add a word. When I try to move the cursor to the desired spot sometimes it. works but most of the time doesn’t. I can’t figure it out 🤔 It was so much easier with excel. What am I doing wrong? I checked all your tutorials can’t find anything on this. Do you have one? Thank you. Pearl
    Perhaps you could do a short one how to change/edit existing text without re-typing 😊

    • @frankfunke8689

      Pearl thanks for your comment. On an iPhone or iPad you can click on a cell and just begin typing to replace the content. If you want to correct text just hold down tnespace bar on the keypad and it wii convert to a trackpad so you can just slide to the desired position.

      I tried your suggestion and it works on iPad great, however I can’t get it working when I use my Mac laptop with the big screen, keyboard and mouse. I prefer the big screen for spreadsheets easier to read. Any suggestions?

    • @frankfunke8689
      @frankfunke8689 Год назад +1

      Pedal, on your laptop you should be able to click on the cell and type to replace the full text. To fix an error click on the cell and hold the trackpad and carefully slide to the area. Now I will admit that it may take some practice to gain confidence using the trackpad just keep at it.

    I REALLY appreciate your help! I hope this is my last question. I was able to create and copy/paste a popup menu on my library spreadsheet, so thanks!! I added each item to my popup menu in alphabetical order because it is a very long list, but as I began to use the menu the order of the menu items changed. Is there a way to maintain the alphabetical order?

    • @APPLE1TO1
      @APPLE1TO1  2 года назад

      This one feature I wish they would add but No. You need to manually change the order.

    I have a quick question; I hope you have time to reply. So, I have a pop-up menu with a list of names and a set of cells in that row that I want to correspond based on the name selection in the pop-up menu. Is this possible? When I select a different name in the pop-up menu, I want the values to correspond to numbers I've entered for that specific name selected from the pop-up menu. I hope this makes sense; I can elaborate if not.

    how can i make sub-genres pop-up menu, ex: i select ROCK and in the next collun appears an pop-up menu to select HARD ROCK, or CLASSIC ROCK.? And if i select BLUES, appears an pop-up menu to select OLD BLUES or NEW BLUES.... ? Help Me pleeeeaaaaase!!!!!!

    • @APPLE1TO1
      @APPLE1TO1  9 месяцев назад

      Carol, thanks for the question. A pop up menu cannot have a sub group within itself. However, i would add an additional column with a different pop up menu that contains all of your sub-categories. this will show some redundancy but it will work. So colm A has your original list Rock, Blues, Country, Big Band, etc. then in colm B list all of your sub-categories, each entry will have i.e. Blues in colm A and Old Blues or New Blues in colm B etc.
      Once that is completed go to colm A and right click and select Add Category for (whatever the colm heading is) each colm heading should be different i.e Genre, Sub-Genre. Then go to colm B and repeat the process this should give you what you want you can also do counts on each of these items to provide a number in each subcategory as well as the overall category.. I hope this helps thank you.

    Hi. Hope you can help me. Just imported my library spreadsheet from Excel to Numbers. Since it is already populated with nearly 100 books, I'm hoping for a reasonably quick way to use the popup menu that I had created in Excel. My columns are TITLE, AUTHOR first, AUTHOR last, PRIMARY CATEGORY, SECONDARY CATEGORY, TERTIARY CATEGORY (all using the same dropdown choices). Is there a way to use the dropdown menu I had already created in Excel or do I need to create it again in Numbers? The list transferred over of course, but not currently as a dropdown.

    • @APPLE1TO1
      @APPLE1TO1  2 года назад +1

      Excel uses something called "data validation" to create those drop down lists. Numbers has a cell type called a "pop up menu". Numbers does not import data valuation or export pop ups.
      Data validation requires a list of the allowed values in Excel. In some table somewhere should be that list of values (I don't think you can create a data validation list in Excel any other way but I could be wrong). In Numbers, select all those cells and change the cell type to pop up menu. After converting all those cells to pop up menus, select one of them, Copy, Paste to wherever you need that "dropdown" list.

    @THiNK DIFFERENT PODCAST Question: How can I count the amount of each choice selected on a column of Pop-up Menus? For example: Let's say that I have a catering list and each attendee has a choice of Vanilla, Chocolate, and Banana Nut muffins. I want to know how many chocolate muffins I have to send (and how many vanilla etc.) how can I make a formula for having a count of the totals of each option?
